i think atlus did the same thing with Catherine didn't they? Because it would detract from people buying it if you could just watch somebody play the story

It is a fine line between good press and bad. I mean if you are only interested in the story then you will just watch and not play it at all. If you didn't know if you wanted to buy or not it could push you to buy it. But game creators are more worried about that in a fixed storyline based game.
