I do kind of miss bragging on my FR babies at UF.... but that's pretty much it I guess.

I miss the avatar system over there. The item previews and ability to layer in the preview window without owning the items made it so much more fun. I wish this site had that.

It was great fun running avatar contests, but I wouldn't want to do one here because newbies would have too many strikes against them.

Out of curiosity, what do you mean by "strikes against them"?

i think she means that they wouldn't have the ability to have access to the good items to make an avatar out of.

UF Avatar Contests are usually done with a Preview thing, they could add as many different items to it. It was kinda like a dream avatar system. This way newbies can enter with out needing that ever rare costly item

One of the most enjoyable things about UF was playing dress up with the avatars and seeing what outfits other people came up with.

Here, it's just frustrating because I have no way of knowing what items others are wearing unless I bug them and there's no way to preview whole outfits without owning them.

Yeah that was a gorgeous avatar system. I'm mostly filling that longing with DivaChix though.

Hmm... Does it have an active community or is it just dress up dolls? That's the other thing I really miss. The community and the sharing that was over at Uni5.

There's a lot of activity actually, there's Guild membership and contests and a very active forum.

I have some plans for better previews around here, but that's a ways off.

We've done item upgrades before -- we released the upgraded versions as new items instead of screwing with the old ones. The only time we've revised existing item graphics is to resolve actual errors like where they're clipped on the avatar.

This does mean that we have some older items that don't quite match newer items that are supposedly using the same palette, but I think overall it's the better choice.

Talk about dress up.

I've worn colours that didn't quite match here. It just makes them like RL items. And they still look good.

I like having a kind of mish mash of similar colors, they add depth to the image.

Actually, I've thought of one thing where colours not really matching bothers me. I'm not sure how to have the Trisina ears match the darker skin tones on the avatar.

Sorry for going off topic, guys, but I'm wibbly right now because of this. North-central Alberta hasn't got hurricanes or earthquakes, but we can still lose whole cities in hours.

A friend of mine lives in Fort McMurray and evacuated north, but eventually made it on one of the evacuation planes south and is staying with her friends in Edmonton. A few friends and I were chatting with her on skype when she said they just got the evacuation notice.

I worried about her like crazy the first 4 days >n<

She's alright as is her family and kitties. =)

Smoke travels. I often smell it when BC or Washington are burning.

The one news cast i saw said the smoke might make it all the way down to florida. makes me wonder if ohio might see some.

You MIGHT. I would imagine most of the smoke is traveling on the polar jet stream, which usually veers northward as it approaches the Atlantic Ocean. Ohio is usually a little northward of the typical path of that jet stream, but taking a look at a map it looks like the curve might be a little farther west than normal right now.
