The thread spool one is so meta

There's also one with sewing pins I might pick up later. I figured sewing themed masks would be appropriate for my shifts at JoAnn.
XD

I actually like how it's just the sky portion for the Starry Night one.

I wound up limiting myself on the dog themed ones. Mostly because a lot of the ones I liked were on Spoonflower.

hmm... maybe i *should* get some fabric with yarn on it... XD

Bio - I've gotten a LOT of my fabric swatches from spoonflower :)

Kaderin Triste 08-08-2020 01:30 AM

Yeah...I thought about getting some fabric from Spoonflower, but I talked to someone who made a mask with fabric from them and it broke several of her sewing machine needles. Something about the way they print the designs apparently can lead to the material being harder to sew through. And I fight with my machine enough as it is. Though I may get a couple small sample cuts for Derpy skirts anyway since those are simple, minimal sewing (I just fabric glue the hem up, so it's just hand sewing the fabric to the elastic.)

trystan830 08-08-2020 01:41 AM

fair point, Kaderin. the fabric does remind me of a piece i got from my mom - i asked her to print one of my pics on printable fabric, and it was a little thicker (if that's the right word?). but as i hand-sew my masks, i've noticed the fabric is a little more than the cotton I've gotten at JoAnn's.

Biomecha 08-08-2020 01:44 AM

It's easy to go down a rabbit hole there, because once you find a design that is actually well made you can find more good ones from the same designer.

trystan830 08-08-2020 01:46 AM

i completely agree with that, Bio!

Derpy McBlueEyes 08-08-2020 01:53 AM

Derpy waddles in, dragging scraps of fabric and chanting "more skirts! More skirts!".

trystan830 08-08-2020 01:55 AM

Derpy, never stop being your awesome self! :D

Kitalpha Hart 08-08-2020 02:03 AM

My sister sent me a link to spoonflower, so I could make fabric patterns
Undecided if I want to or not tho

Biomecha 08-08-2020 02:06 AM

Oh, maybe the denim needles will hold up better for the printed ones? I did get some of those to use with the duck canvas for the masks, and just overall thicker layers.

Derpy waddles over and hugs your ankle, somehow managing to get the fabric pieces tangled up in the process. "You too!"

trystan830 08-08-2020 04:56 PM

aww, thanks Derpy!

Experimenting with my black aluminum scales and multichrome nail polish...

Am thinking I'll need something stronger than normal top coat for them though so am gonna eventually test both gel polish top coat and uv resin to see which one holds up the best.
