Glitch 11-04-2019 02:45 PM

I really wish there was a way to get people to quit spoofing my number :T

I had a bunch of missed calls from the same number today and I thought maybe it was this guy that wants to commission me so I called back and this guy told me that I call him all the time and I’m like no I don’t D;

This isn’t the first time it’s happened =.=

littl3chocobo 11-04-2019 04:38 PM

that.....is really weird

Mekatra 11-04-2019 06:07 PM

I got a call from my own phone number the other day, but I never answer my phone so I can only assume it was a scammer and not me calling from the future to warn me of a terrible occurance coming my way...

Glitch 11-04-2019 06:19 PM

People spoof a lot of local cell numbers around here and mine just made it onto the list somehow y.y

I found an article though about a guy suggesting I make my voicemail message apologize to people calling the number back so maybe I won’t get so many “why are you calling me??” Voicemails

Mekatra 11-04-2019 06:27 PM

Doesn't seem fair that you should have to apologize for someone stealing your phone number, but I get their point.

mdom 11-04-2019 06:48 PM

D: that's a terrible mess

we have a landline and people call all the time for someone who's owing them money (it's not us :P it's a name we don't know)

Mekatra 11-04-2019 06:51 PM

Ugh. I had a bill collector calling me for a while looking for the person that owned my phone number before me. They kept calling even though I had said I didn't know him. I think they thought I was lying and just trying to protect them from the bill collectors.

trystan830 11-04-2019 07:01 PM

when we first moved to our first house quite a number of years ago, we started getting phone calls asking for someone (i don't remember the name anymore, only that it wasn't us) because he apparently hadn't paid his bills! i'm pretty sure they stopped calling when i actually answered the phone once and set them straight.

up until recently, i got spam calls from my cell area code and exchange, but i would just hang up on those calls. a friend of mine did get a call from an irate person, wanting to know why my friend had called her when she didn't, it was her number spoofed. maybe the person didn't know that's a thing, and they just wanted to bitch to someone.

times are strange.

Mekatra 11-04-2019 07:03 PM

Sounds like it is time to set up a call blocking app..

Ava 11-04-2019 07:06 PM

Due to my mental health, I am extremely paranoid... and like two months ago, I kept getting really strange almost seemingly "coded" messages that I was really sure were meant for me, and sent by the government.

They had key words in them that seemed too specific to be spam...

And they kept coming in different incremented numbers. Example, Text from (555)-000-0001, next text: (555)-000-002, next text: (555)-000-0003... And so on and so on..

I was panicking, of course, and I tried to figure out what was happening by going to my wireless company and they were like, "Eh, just ignore it" and... me being me, I was positive that they were in on it too. I was already feeling scared of me phone being bugged by the government, so it did not help that the wireless company was so nonchalant about it...

I eventually told my therapist about these messages and she confirmed that they are spam. It's hard to convince myself that they were not sent by the government for me to decode... But they haven't been coming in anymore. So I guess for now I am safe...

Those mysterious calls and texts really f*** with my mind, though

littl3chocobo 11-04-2019 07:18 PM

that almost sounds like what people used to do with old landlines to find computers where they'd call sequentially until a computer picked up and then wrote it down for the hacker to call manually

Ava 11-04-2019 07:23 PM

I'm always scared that people are trying to hack into my phone or my computer..

Whenever something teeny changes, my first reaction is thinking someone is spying on me, or someone hacked into my stuff.

My PC, which I've had for 5 years now, started doing weird stuff and right away, I was worried that my security had been compromised and I freaked out and got really angry and really scared at the same time...

I can tell when my messages are being read by government spies when my messages lag on Discord. I say "Hi" to them sometimes

trystan830 11-04-2019 07:23 PM

my phone will now tell me if it's a "Fraud Risk" or "Spam Risk" or "Survey" when an unknown number calls! also, as my hubby says, if it's important, they'll leave a message. and sometimes i've gotten calls from numbers i don't recognize, and they HAVE left a message

also, chocobo, i love that background!

mdom 11-04-2019 07:25 PM

We keep saying we're not them, but they're low level phone operators so I guess they don't have much say in which numbers they can strike off their lists or not

littl3chocobo 11-04-2019 07:32 PM

well, i don't know if it helps but you are being watched recorded and monitored just not by live humans and not the government(they just buy or look at data provided to them by google and other large data-collecting groups)

the data theft is much more mundane than t and movies. people are not trying to break your will and steal all of your money; computers are just recording every time you look up the number to pizzahut so they know what ads to show you and what coupons to cram in your inbox

thankyou<3 i need another galactic filter and sail al vie to make it look really good though

Glitch 11-04-2019 08:47 PM

my new neighbors just came to check out their new house and they have little ones I hope they like me ;;

Winter saw their kids and started crying about why her friends weren’t coming to play

littl3chocobo 11-04-2019 08:51 PM

how old is winter?

Ava 11-04-2019 08:59 PM

Kids are so precious

I never had new neighbors as a kid.
Basically, my parents built our house (well, they told the builders what they wanted and the builders built it, but you know what I mean) and we were the only house in that "lot" for a while and eventually other people came and built their houses there too

So all the neighbors each built their own homes and obviously... when you build a home, you plan to live there quite some time. So all the kids in the neighborhood grew up together and the left home, and their parents stayed in that house.

Of all the neighbors we had, only one moved away before we did.
So I basically saw the same people in my neighborhood every day of my life until I turned 19 or so.

littl3chocobo 11-04-2019 09:01 PM

that is such an alien concept to me that i cannot even imagine it properly....

mdom 11-04-2019 09:43 PM

Awww!
iirc Winter is 2? Or something

I also had the same neighbors until I moved out for college

Glitch 11-04-2019 10:17 PM

2 1/2!

I want neighbors that I get along with!

littl3chocobo 11-04-2019 10:35 PM

so little enough for that x'''D

i think a lot of people want that. will you send them food or a welcoming gift so as to start things off correctly?

My neighbors were always like, "We don't talk to the other neighbors"

It was really taboo to even like say "hi" if you saw them on the street.

People talk about "Minnesota nice", but it's a huge myth.
