Kaderin Triste 06-22-2017 11:46 PM

Yay! Way to go, Quiet!
I really don't jog. Ever. But I do walk or bike about 1.2 kilometers to get to work every day during the week.
And honestly, I almost always am full up on eggs because they are too common in pokestops. XD

Quiet Man Cometh 06-24-2017 09:01 PM

Bah! I see the pokemon but there are none to be caught within the confines of my sister's house! This makes it difficult. I can tell from the silhouette that there is a lurking swinub (if I have that name right), and a bellossom (also if I have that name right). Don't care about them as much as I hoped to continue my streak.

Quiet Man Cometh 06-24-2017 09:36 PM

I see you Merrill! Come over here into the house! It's too hot to go wandering outside!

Awen Moonshine 06-26-2017 04:10 AM

Have you guys managed to check out the new gyms system and raids yet?

We managed to get out and try it at the weekend. We fought a Gengar in a raid, just my partner and me even though it was a 3 difficulty raid and managed to win ^_^ I've also managed to get on a few gyms over the weekend too, the only downside is you can only earn 50 coins per day now instead of the 100 cap it had before...

Quiet Man Cometh 06-26-2017 08:34 PM

I've seen the new gyms but I have no idea how they work.

Awen Moonshine 06-27-2017 04:13 AM

Well each gym now only allows 6 Pokemon to be in it at a time now and each Pokemon has to be different from the others currently on there.

You still battle them the same way as before against opposing teams but you can no longer train at them, but instead can feed the Pokemon berries to keep them on the gym longer. When you fight the Pokemon on the gym you now fight them in order they were put in the gym as opposed to the old system where you'd fight the weakest first.

You can now click on the gym picture and spin said picture like a pokestop. It doesn't need to be your teams colour to be able to do this but you get bonus items if it is. That is how you can get your free daily raid pass.

Raids are a new event that they've implemented in gyms. when there is going to be a raid there will be an egg shown on top of the gym with a countdown timer. Once the timer reaches 0 the egg will hatch into the Pokemon that the raid will be against. There are 4 difficulty ratings for raids and this will determine how many people are recommended to take on the raid boss plus what Pokemon will appear.

Level 1 raids will be either a Magicarp, Quilava, Bayleef or Croconaw.
Level 2 will be either Electabuzz, Exeggutor, Magmar, Muk or Weezing.
Level 3 will be an Alakazam, Arcanine, Flareon, Gengar, Jolteon, Machamp or a Vaporeon.
Level 4 will be a Blastoise, Charizard, Lapras, Rhydon, Snorlax, Tyranitar or a Venosaur

I hope this helps?

Quiet Man Cometh 06-27-2017 08:02 PM

Ah. I was out today so I took some time to walk about and did spy a raid at a nearby gym but I'm too low level to participate. It was a Vaporeon that hatched. Got some new pokemon, but I'm going to need to restock pokeballs and berries soon. Was going to go to the farmer's market this week where there are three stops and two nearby gyms, but I need to go to the city. My usual wandering park has construction going on so not to many opportunities for hunting. The local mall has nothing.

I've been hanging onto my lucky eggs and letting my candy build up before I go on an evo spree. Does anyone happen to know how many candies it takes to get a Nidoran from second evo to third? I have a bunch of candy but I want to have enough to evo him twice. Right now I have hopefully enough for one Nidoking (maybe), three Golbats (provided I get two more Zubats), Butterfree, Wigglytuff, Pigeot, three Ratticates, Cleffable, Cloyster, and Seadra. Most of these will be new entries.

Walked 0.6 km with Mighty.

I believe it's 50, if memory serves correctly, to go from second evo to third.

Quiet Man Cometh 06-27-2017 09:47 PM

So 75 candies total to go from Nidoran to Nidoking/queen? Or one of the starters from first to third? I know it's 62 to get from Pidgey to Pigeot, but the first evo cost is only 12 instead of 25. Wasn't sure if the higher number made a difference.

Awen Moonshine 06-28-2017 03:28 AM

It'll cost 25 to go from Nidoran to Nidorino and then a further 100 candy to go from that to Kidoking but you get a candy for evolving so you should only need 124 candy total to evolve them.

Quiet Man Cometh 06-30-2017 03:01 AM

Ah. So a little ways to go then. Thanks!

Awen Moonshine 06-30-2017 03:38 AM

Yup but you are over halfway ^_^ No problem, I'm happy to be able to help ^_^

Quiet Man Cometh 07-02-2017 12:17 AM

Bah. I never seem to catch any Pokemon in any house I'm in (except for my cousin's and I'm rarely there) so I took a break from the Canada Day BBQ to go for a walk down to the nearest Pokestop which in close enough to a gym that I also got a raid pass. My streak is back down to 2, but it's something. Caught a 430 Venonat which I'm happy about because I'm trying to get a good level Venomoth since that was the first leveled Pokemon I had. Still short a dozen candies or so.

XoGizmooX 07-02-2017 02:42 PM

I miss this game so much :( I need more memory space

Quiet Man Cometh 07-03-2017 05:53 AM

I've managed to keep my streak! Mostly because I happened to turn on my phone while at a rock concert before to started just to see, and there were several stops, a gym, and two planted lures in the area, and the location was so jumpy that I could reach most of them from my seat. Alas, though the gym was my team, no room for a new Pokemon. It probably swapped teams a few times tonight though. I didn't look after I got my stuff for the day, but several thousand people sitting in one area will probably do that.

Quiet Man Cometh 07-03-2017 09:48 PM

Four day streak! A new record...sadly.

5k egg hatched into another shellder. They seem to like me. Perhaps they sense that I don't eat shellfish really and huddle towards me for safety.

Awen Moonshine 07-04-2017 03:47 AM

Congrats Quiet! ^_^

I finally managed to get myself on a couple of gyms overnight as we had to go and get me some meds yesterday and the local pharmacy is in a large shopping centre the is full of stops and gyms. Thankfully both me and my partner play for the same team so we can go around taking down opposing gyms without too much trouble and we have taken down a few level 3 difficulty raids between just the 2 of us too without too much difficulty (but we are both over level 30 ourselves and know type matching) ^_^;;

Kaderin Triste 07-04-2017 07:09 AM

I keep losing my streak lately, but most of the pokemon I need are hard to come by except during events and gyms are just kind of pointless for me, so I don't really play for very long. XP

Awen Moonshine 07-04-2017 08:56 AM

What Pokemon are you still missing Kaderin?

Hopefully they'll implement trading soon, then I might be able to send you guys some of the Pokemon you are missing?

I'll have to check. Totodile and all evolutions for sure. I didn't even see that one during the water event.
Oh, and I think trading was talked about in one of the event articles a while back...and it sounds like it will only be local trading, not long distance.

Okay so this is the full list of what I'm still missing. I can get a lot of them from walking for candies though.

(Not sure the legendaries are obtainable yet....but I put them on the list anyway.)

Quiet Man Cometh 07-04-2017 11:04 PM

I'm not worried about finding everything. Right now I just catch what I need for the day as I walk to the stop and gym. I'm at level 19 so I can just join raids but I've never tried yet.

How do gyms work now? I was told you could pick which opponent you wanted to face but it looks like the whole lineup when you start. Most of mine are still under 1000 so I'm pretty weak. Haven't done much in the way of training or boosting. Still debating using one of my lucky eggs. I've still got a ways to go for the candies I need for arcanine.

Awen Moonshine 07-05-2017 05:08 AM

That's quite the list there Kaderin! I've not got quite as many left to get but there's no way I can currently get the regional exclusive ones sadly and the legendaries have not yet been released (also no sign of Delibird or Smeargle yet either).

Gyms work much the same way as they used to when battling the only difference now if that you fight them in the order they were added to the gym rather than the weakest/lowest CP first plus it gives you the option to swap out your pokemon or stop fighting between each opponent.

You can also tag the gyms like you would a pokestop now by spinning the photo disc, this is how you get your free daily raid pass. Raids are much like regular battles to begin with by instead of facing lots of smaller mons you just tackle one large one. The prizes and gym rep for doing this can be pretty good and once the battle is over you get a bunch of premier balls for a chance to catch the mon you've just fought.

Kaderin Triste 07-05-2017 05:43 AM

I don't guarantee it's true, but one pogo list (because I had too look up the second gen that are in game since I'm not super familiar with gen 2 and up) said that the regional exclusives could be obtained through eggs.

And honestly, anything on that list that I already have at least the first evolution of, I can walk to get the others. It'll kidt take forever. But I only need 2 more Kabuto candies and then I can swap buddies for the next one. Probably whatever one needs the fewest candies first.

Awen Moonshine 07-05-2017 08:55 AM

You can only hatch a regional if you get the egg from said region, otherwise with all the eggs I've hatched I probably would have got at least one of them (apparently I've hatched 809 eggs since I started playing).

I do pretty much the same thing, although I tend to do the ones with less distance to walk first as different mons have different distances needed to gain a candy. I currently have my Croconaw as my buddy <3 Then it'll probably be my Pupitar unless I hatch another Mareep in the mean time.

Minus the regionals and legendaries that I am unable to get I have these few Pokemon left to find/evolve :

Feraligatr
Ampharos
Unown
Stantler
Tyranitar

The regionals, Legendaries and as yet unreleased mons that I haven't got are :

Kangaskhan
Tauros
Farfetch'd
Articuno
Moltres
Zapdos
Mew
Mewtwo
Corsola
Heracross
Delibird
Smeargle
Suicune
Raikou
Entei
Lugia
Ho-oh
Celebi

Kaderin Triste 07-05-2017 04:01 PM

Oh. I didn't know Lugia and Ho-oh were in the game. The PoGo lists online don't have those ones on them.

Coda 07-05-2017 04:58 PM

They're effectively NOT in the game. They don't appear anywhere and you can't see them or catch them.

XoGizmooX 07-05-2017 05:27 PM

We need to be able to trade over the net or something :/ maybe they can add that I have many of the ones y'all are missing plus spare Santa hat Pikas (providing I get space to reload the game we could trade if it happens

Kaderin Triste 07-05-2017 05:32 PM

Yeah...that's what I was thinking, Coda.

Gizzie: Yeah...last I read trades are going to be local only, unfortunately.

XoGizmooX 07-05-2017 05:35 PM

Dang that sucks :/ I guess we could share passwords and trust each other to trade for us (we would need two devices though)

Coda 07-05-2017 05:43 PM

I don't have a clue how they could POSSIBLY implement "local only", especially not in any way that couldn't work around the restriction by a couple people on opposite ends of a Skype call.

XoGizmooX 07-05-2017 05:47 PM

We need to be able to do it non locally because chances are if we are close enough to trade IN PERSON than we probably have the exact same Pokemon and the only way to complete the set is A. An expensive trip around the world to get the local ones or B. Let us trade online

Kaderin Triste 07-05-2017 06:08 PM

I mean, I'm guessing it would be something where you can only trade at the gyms or some shit.
But I don't really have the knowledge of how game stuff works at all...
*shrug*

Coda 07-05-2017 06:11 PM

Oh. Crap. Good point. I momentarily forgot that the game requires GPS. You could enforce trade locality just by your position in the world.

Kaderin Triste 07-05-2017 06:36 PM

Yeah.....doable, but it would be a super shitty move.
So it's probably what they'll do.

Quiet Man Cometh 07-05-2017 07:25 PM

it wouldn't surprise me if local does mean person to person, as it would fit with the "let's be social outside!" aspect of the game.

I have a Tauros but he's not that tough. I was amused the other day noting that thee were Teddiursa hanging around and I'm currently in an area known for bears.

Quiet Man Cometh 07-05-2017 10:01 PM

Day 6 done. This is becoming a chore, mostly because it's a steep trek to the pokestop. Exercise though. Got a hoppip. Didn't know their little green fronds acted like helicopter blades.

EDIT: That moment when you transfer a Pokemon you meant to evolve. -.-

Day 7 done! Actually tried to fight a Snorlax at a gym but the fight cut out on me (or it looked that way) with a few seconds to go. Not sure why it stopped but it would have been close to the wire for time. I should have an extra gym badge too, or do they only show up locally? I see the five I've been to in the past week, but not the one that's back where I actually live. Got my Pikachu badge, another growlithe candy (buddy is venonat now for the remaining three I need of those), and my first slowpoke. :)

Day 8. I have a pikachu with a hat.

Awen Moonshine 07-08-2017 07:49 PM

That's awesome progress Quiet! ^_^ Have you been enjoying it?

We managed to take on a few of raids today and yesterday as we went out to celebrate my birthday ^_^ We took on a Magicarp yesterday and then today we beat a Muk and a Flareon and captured all of them ^_^ I also finally got a Stantler, it hatched rather than me being able to capture it, but I'm so happy I finally have one ^_^ Only 4 more pokemon left for me to find/evolve now ^_^ I'm much closer to evolveing my Feraligatr, Tyranitar and Ampharos thanks to getting quite a few rare candies from the raids but I'm not liking my chances of coming across a random Unown as they are rarer than gold dust apparently... ^_^;;

I do hope that doesn't become the way that trades will work, but it sounds like the most likely way they'd implement it...

Kaderin Triste 07-10-2017 06:43 PM

Yay! Way to go, Quiet!
I haven't gotten a pikachu with the hat yet. I've only seen one pop up in the nearby pokemon, but it was around 9pm and I just wanted to go home. Plus my battery was only at about 30% anyway.
I haven't actually done any raid battles yet. My phone is usually almost dead when I get off work and actually have time for them. Plus, since I don't have any local friends to play with, raid battles will probably be almost impossible for me anyway from the sound of it.

Awen Moonshine 07-10-2017 07:51 PM

Depending on your level 1 and 2 difficulty raid should be easily doable on your own. Me and my other half took on a level 4 raid with just the 2 of us as we are trying really hard to get him a Snorlax but we only managed to get it down to half health before the time ran out. We think that with a couple more people at a similar level to us we would have been able to do it. We're both over level 30 though. Don't forget about playing to the pokemons weakness, so say you're against a fire type, pick a water type to fight it with and it will be an easier win ^_^ Some pokemon are trickier to fight though like Snorelax for example as it is not easy to find pokemon types that are good against normal types and also have high CP.

Kaderin Triste 07-10-2017 09:08 PM

I actually had to check back to see what pokemon levels 1 and 2 had. If there's ever one nearby when I'm not late for work or walking home from work after 8pm and my phone is above 50%, I might attempt them.
And I've always played to the weaknesses. I've never found Snorlax to be too difficult to beat, but Blissey was a real pain.
