I've never had any pets besides goldfish. My dad's allergic. I was, too, but I think I've mostly grown out of it.

Oh. I've always had cats and dogs. That's about it.

Serena Yuy 01-22-2014 09:58 PM

I think my fiance kind of was allergic to the cat dander growing up. But, he's not now. I've always said if I developed an allergy to pet dander, I would be ok with getting shots. But, thank goodness I am not. So, I am good. I did sneeze with my last piggy because of how dusty the shavings were ^^"
We had a dog when I was a baby, she passed when I was really young, she was a very sick dog. From then on, all we had were cats and guinea pigs.

2 horses, 2 cats, 1 dog, fish, and a turtle...
I've raised starlings (though never trained them), a golden finch, turtles, a mouse, helped heal a bat and another bird (forgot the kind), a black bunny, nursed a raccoon to adulthood after losing her mother, and took care of a hedgehog...
Our family has lost multiple birds (All either abandoned hatchlings or trying to save from roadside hits), 3 dogs (all died of cancer at relatively old ages - around 15 years old), 1 cat (dog grabbed and broke the back), 1 horse (slipped, broke the leg, and died of shock), 2 ducks (yes, ducks are birds...a snake killed one and the other died of shock), 3 turtles (tried to save them from being hit by careless cars), and many fish (guppies don't have long lifespans).

And no, the wildlife professionals don't take care of these sort of things usually.

What is a starling?

Lawtan 01-22-2014 11:00 PM

The Common Starling
I named them Starbie, Jumper, and Beep (it breeped alot).
Yeah...I was 8...

Espy 01-22-2014 11:03 PM

So like, the feeder fish I (actually, my mom) raised lived for 3+ years.

Law, Were you the family in 'We bought a Zoo'?

Lawtan 01-22-2014 11:20 PM

No...
My mother wanted to be a Zoo vet...and wound up having to put down animals in an animal shelter (from which, conditions were bad enough that she has developed minor PTSD)...
Also, she loved horses, and we live in cheap horse country (14 acres for 1 year's salary for beginning engineers)...issue being a lack of connection/progress here.
Many of them were fellows who were hurt or lost in an urban environment (like a school) and we nursed them back to health and released them. Others, people would dump on us.

Serena Yuy 01-22-2014 11:59 PM

Jeesh, that's a lot of animals o.o

I couldn't imagine living with so many of those. I'm set with the 2 cats and possibly a guinea pig.

There is a hole?
I disappeared after I posted last since it was getting late and I needed to get to bed. Ended up sleeping in late as always.
