XD Actually, the teacher did email me back and now it makes more sense. He said neither the pope nor hat are real, rather they are fake and reflect the problems in the Victorian Society.

Now it's starting to make sense, I assume it also means the bacon is a metaphor for it as well.

Ohhh, well, now that it makes more sense maybe it won't be so bad.

Bacon makes me think of the "fat underbelly of society".

Bacon more of the goal. Where aiming for lots of bacon alone will result in nothing at all.
