I think Solia online is supposed to be the "new" Ernya. There was another cool one called Crysandrea that also tanked after a while.

I typically click the "New Posts" link up top and go from there, but yeah, notifications would definitely help.

Most forums have it, though it's more obvious in some places than others. (And its more useful in some places than others. Like I find it worthless on Menewsha.)
