Awww...

But yay! Haircut! :) I get mine cut maybe every 3 years or so and donate it to Locks of Love. *nod nod*

Fauxreal 02-28-2014 04:53 PM

My hair is all colored to hell. Purple, red, pink, orange ~ I don't think they take colored hair.

Kilala Mikal 02-28-2014 11:47 PM

They don't take bleached hair. If your hair is naturally light and you colored it with out bleaching it first, they'll take it. *nod*

The More You Know *Rainbow*

femme gauche 02-28-2014 11:50 PM

I don't have that much hair... It's about like my avatar right now.

Spinning yarn really isn't that complicated. It's one of the oldest crafts after all... People all over the world have been doing it for millennia.

Fauxreal 03-01-2014 04:34 PM

Just because people have been doing it for a long time doesn't mean it's easy! lolz!

Also - my hair looks like crazy town now.

Kilala Mikal 03-01-2014 05:33 PM

Agreed. *nod nod* I can do crochet things that my mom is still not able to figure out, and she's got at least 15 years on me with the whole crochet thing. I also figured out how to knit before my mom did. She's been trying to figure it out for the last 10 years or so... >.>'

What exactly does crazy town look like? @.@

Fauxreal 03-02-2014 12:41 AM

AGH! I keep forgetting the pictures!

Robert Smith hair = crazy town.

Kilala Mikal 03-02-2014 10:47 AM

Gotcha. Very interesting hairstyle, lol. I've always had plain jane hair, usually pulled back in a high ponytail. Essentially mom hair.

And in relation to crafting:
I've joined the first five squares in what was going to be a crib bumper. I'm actually thinking of just making it into a blanket for her. I'll take pictures and post them soon. *nod*

Angel Spirit Girl 03-02-2014 08:12 PM

I wanted to send hair to Locks of Love a couple years ago when I cut my hair, but the hair was slightly too short.

Kilala Mikal 03-02-2014 10:36 PM

Aww. I would've been disappointed.

Quiet Man Cometh 03-03-2014 01:55 AM

Never thought of making one's own spindles but I can see how it would be done. Dowel, one of those tiny screw-in hooks from the hardware store, and something heavy and smooth to attach it too. I like this thought. :)

For reference, here's the sort of drop spindle we use, or something very similar:

Bah! I just took the hoop of my cross stitch (not on Aida fabric so it's okay!) and then realized I forgot to do my white backstitching. -.-

Fauxreal 03-03-2014 03:50 AM

I created a cross stitching group on Facebook. The Cross Stitching Mafia.

Kilala Mikal 03-03-2014 06:32 AM

*goes to look for the facebook group*

It's been a while, but I do counted cross stitch, too. :)

Quiet Man Cometh 03-03-2014 08:14 AM

That's what I typically do. I have plain Aida fabric that I've been working with to make new designs, or try to. I'm working on a printed cross stitch right now, which is just the pattern drawn on regular fabric and you stitch it. I'm a little leery of it because I imagine if you lined your stitches up, it would create a weak spot in the fabric where it could tear, unless you drew the design in a way that the lines of the fabric wouldn't separate when threads went between them. I'm using a kit, so no such luck.

Best crafter line from facebook: "They're not hobbies. They're post-apocalyptic life skills."

Kilala Mikal 03-03-2014 12:18 PM

It's been so long since I've done anything... I mostly use the kits my great grandmother sends my way to do for her. Everything has been (just about) Christmas ornaments, or small little magnets, lol. The one big project I was working on, my mother-in-law decided to take over it, and used messed it up. She used the wrong color and then cut the thread so it wasn't long enough for me to use after I'd taken it out. -_-'

And I'm totally gonna steal that phrase. My mom's really gonna get a kick out of it. XD

Fauxreal 03-03-2014 05:25 PM

That is freaking hilarious!

Kilala Mikal 03-03-2014 06:16 PM

Finally took pictures of my granny squares! :D I was making a bumper, but I've decided to make a blanket instead. Once I get everything put together, I'm gonna use the red from the center flowers to do a border around it. *nod*

Fauxreal 03-03-2014 06:27 PM

Wow! They look so great! <3

Quiet Man Cometh 03-03-2014 06:57 PM

Neat. Is that crochet?

I mostly cross-stitch using kits, but I would really like to make some of my own patterns. Get tedious though. Sometimes I look for free ones online and tweak them to make cards or little gifts. My cousin is a boat nut, so I dig up a sailboat pattern and added decorations and "lights" to it for a Christmas card. I'm hoping to turn some of my other pieced into either a pillow or a wine bag or something.

Angel Spirit Girl 03-03-2014 07:33 PM

Nice crochet squares. <3

Fauxreal 03-03-2014 08:09 PM

I totally forgot to take pictures of what I was working on and the girl already has come to pick it up.

Kilala Mikal 03-03-2014 08:24 PM

Thanks y'all. <3

They are indeed, Quiet. :) And that sounds really cool. Most of what I did for Christmas presents were hats. I did wind up making a pretty nifty bright green infinity scarf for one of my cousins though. :) I wish I had taken pictures of everything... -_-'

And aww... Faux... You're as bad as me right now, lol.

Quiet Man Cometh 03-03-2014 09:08 PM

I think I'm going to finish off my cross-stitch with some of the embroidery stitches my sister showed me. I'm not all that fond of the stitch the pattern actually uses.

I'll post a picture of it when I get it done.

Kilala Mikal 03-03-2014 09:13 PM

Can't wait to see it, Quiet. :)

Fauxreal 03-04-2014 12:52 AM

I lurv pictures!

Kilala Mikal 03-04-2014 01:02 AM

So do I, Faux. I like seeing every body's abilities. *nod nod* It makes me want be better at what I do.

Fauxreal 03-04-2014 01:59 AM

Why is that when I get tired - is when I want to be the most creative?

Quiet Man Cometh 03-04-2014 02:51 AM

Because your natural barriers of logic and reason are weakened, allowing the creative spirit to run rampant and unchecked?

Unicorn in space!

My rope stitch isn't coming out so well. Of course, I could always just look the think up instead of just going by what I think my sister showed me a few weeks ago.

Fauxreal 03-04-2014 01:56 PM

Unicorn in space?!

I don't understand? Although I like the term.

Lawtan 03-04-2014 02:26 PM

Unicorn in Space...Acorna's World!!!

Quiet Man Cometh 03-05-2014 12:06 AM

More like, the idea is cool! Who cares about plausibility?

Once again the craft store is out of my black sparkly embroidery thread! This is the third time I've checked. bah!

Simple and easy aren't always the same thing ;). It may not be the easiest thing in the world but (spinning) isn't complicated.

Ugh, but money is. I wish I could knit that... (and yeah, i know, you can sell knitted things. Alas, that assumes a buyer.)

Fauxreal 03-05-2014 06:41 PM

OMgoodness - if one could knit money... All the crafters would be RICH RICH RICH!

femme gauche 03-05-2014 11:21 PM

lol yes xP. though it does still require money to get yarn ;).

Quiet Man Cometh 03-05-2014 11:25 PM

Fiber to spin yarn is certainly not cheaper, depending on the fiber you buy. Crafting can be irritatingly expensive.

femme gauche 03-05-2014 11:33 PM

Yeah. It actually baffles me that it is/can be more expensive to spin with commercial fiber than to knit with yarn from the same company...

Fauxreal 03-05-2014 11:51 PM

Well - buying clothing is cheaper than sewing your own. *ug*

Quiet Man Cometh 03-06-2014 12:12 AM

Here's my current (one of them) stitch project. I'm going to outline the letters in "Friends" with the metallic black thread as soon as I can get my hands on some.

"Cheaper than a Shrink"

Kilala Mikal 03-06-2014 06:12 PM

That looks really good, Quiet! I can't wait to see it once it's all done. *nod*

I finished up a blue hat today. Made pom-poms for it and even crocheted i-cords to attach to the ear flaps. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. I've gotta dig out my 3DS so I can take some pictures. :)

Espy 03-06-2014 07:49 PM

I wish I had an ounce of talent in working with fabrics.

Here's a thing I stuck together in a hour today. (I was bored.)
