@Starbomb
I remember Adventures in Wonderland. I had a VHS tape of it, had like 3 episodes on it. I had a crush on the Mad Hatter XD |
Awwww haha. XD I used to love Alice in Wonderland stuff.... I remember I would sit in front of my mirror and pretend I could jump into it and go to Wonderland like Alice could.
|
ok, not 90s nostalgia so much, but have you ever seen Miyuki-Chan In Wonderland?
It's like this bizarre half hour of an Alice like charachter in wonderland, and all the rest of the charachters are sexy bdsm women for some reason? -_- i have it on dvd because it was three dollars and siad "CLAMP" on it... it's.... really weird but worth watching if you're alice obsessed. have you read the original books? I read wonderland, but not through the looking glass. |
So when I was a kid I had read story (I wish I could remember the name of it) about a girl that was pulled through a puddle of water by an evil faerie and they kept her captive until the hero of the story came and saved her. It was actually kind of a horrifying concept to be honest, but in my mind that meant pools of water could be portals to the faerie realm... so I would submerge myself into the bathtub until I got headaches from lack of oxygen just really hoping that I would get pulled through.
|
It's a wonder you didn't drown yourself lol.
|
@Claire I've heard of it, and I might've watched it before cause I was also a CLAMP fan when I was younger, but I dunno if I ever ended up finding it or not.
I've read the original first book and I think Through the Looking Glass, but I'm not sure cause it was a while ago. I know they are available for free to read online so maybe I ought to revist them sometime. @Mekatra Yeah, gotta agree that it's lucky you didn't drown. :o Sounds like something I would have done though, lol. I was a really weird kid.... (and teen and adult) |
And now I've been watching Adventures in Wonderland on Youtube. I had only seen three episodes, so I am watching the ones I never did get to see from back then.
|
It's kind of a miracle that I didn't die as a child from all the stupid crap I did
|
Fun. :D It's been a few years since I watched them.
and @Mekatra same, tbh. |
And the Mad Hatter now as an adult, makes me wonder what the eff I was thinking. He's like 5% away from being a cross-dresser or flaming gay...
|
okay, one of my friends shared this video on facebook today.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33QpqR-fN0c and now this is gonna be stuck in my head alllll day. how many of ya'll been to a Discovery Zone? I had a friend had a birthday party at one once, it was soooooo good. |
OK WAIT, I remember this commercial better than that one
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sI5nYSYtZmw |
@Crystal lmaoooo XD
@Claire I remember the commercials but never went to one. I've never even been to Chuck E Cheese's or anything like that, haha. |
omg wow. DZ was wayyyyy better than Chuck E Cheeze. Shame they closed up, wonder what happened that Chuck E Cheeze still exists and a better place doesnt.
in my hometown, Joliet, we have a similar place that is like 'spooky' themed called Haunted Trails. They have minigolf and like i would go there as an adult to play skeeball. i love skeeball. |
Never been to a Discovery Zone, but I have been to a Chuck E Cheese's though. One time a couple years ago since there was a birthday party for the neighbor's kid I was invited to. Animatronics are still Nightmare Fuel. I did go to these themed discovery type things though. I even went to a space station simulator type deal. THAT was interesting. We filled out a questionaire type deal to find out where we were better suited and each one of us got a partner and a 'station'. Then we would relay things back to 'Mission control' and all that. It was neat.
|
I've never played skeeball ;_;
That space simulator sounds fun. :D I don't think I've ever done anything like that. Do y'all remember the commercials for the Toys R Us Super Toy Runs? I wanted to win it soooo badly https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZ_aY9U9o9w I read an interview a couple years ago with some of the winners from back then.... ahhh this one: https://tv.avclub.com/i-got-4-bikes-...-re-1798278424 tbh that'd still be a dream come true for me to win that, lmao |
YES I DO REMEMBER THE SUPER TOY RUNS I WAS SO JEALOUS OMG
|
I'm pretty sure I still have at least a few dreams a year about winning them even now. XD That'd be the best thing ever, especially as a kid.
|
I think I remember hearing about these things (or seeing the ads) but never actually having been to one or even seen one. Probably more dominant in the USA I guess, if they were here at all?
We did have a couple of laser tag places, and those token arcades, but that was pretty much it. Poo. But hey, we all survived Y2K! |
i remember being worried about my computer on y2k lmao.
|
I remember my mom buying a bunch of bottled water and canned food 'just in case' y2k happened lol

One of my regular nurses talked about the time he got one of his sons a Furby. The kid wasn't too interested in it at first, so it was in the garage. Everyone was coming home one evening and they heard this little voice "it's cold in here!"
He figured it had turned on (or been left on) and had picked it up from one of the kids. I got this electronic dog thing that you could talk to and pat (had a button on it's head) and it's eyes would emote. Wouldn't sleep very well though. The idea was to block out light with a cloth. I would cover the thing and stick it in the attic before it would shut up. |
I hated things that were seemingly sentient. We had back in the day, a Robie Robot. Not sure any of you remember him. There was also a Robie Jr. Well, those scared the ever living shit out of me, because I didn't know at the time they were remote controlled. So like all of a sudden they'd start moving and I'd freak the fuck out.
https://rcmemories.files.wordpress.c...ejunior004.jpghttps://images-na.ssl-images-amazon....RL._SY550_.jpg (Also had this guy) http://www.jeffbots.com/robiebank.jpg I also had one of those pink Barbie convertible electric car things as a kid. My dad made the mistake of leaving it on the reverse before I got into it. I went to drive it, and I go backward and hit something, scaring the shit out of me and then I refused to drive it. I did sit in front of the TV and use it like a drive-in theater type thing lol. |
i still think that furbies were sentient
mine kept talking after i took the batteries out also @Starbomb lol about the canned foods lol. |
Quiet Man, you mean this dog?
http://www.throwbacks.com/content/im...2FPoo-Chi.jpeg i was jealous of everyone who had one. |
I used to have like 13 Furbies and a bunch of coloring books and keychains and stuff, lol, I was obsessed with them.
^ I also had a gold & black Poo-chi but I didn't play with it as much cause I was a couple years older by then I think. I was so jealous of kids that had those electric cars you could ride around in, I never had one. :( |
I...never had a Furby. Really wanted one as a kid. Now, I think they're kind of...creepy.
Robot dogs...that's something I never really grew out of :| |
I have mine still I think still in the closet. But I pulled the batteries out of it and shoved it in there ages ago because it was "asleep" and the batteries ran down and then it started going off like an alarm and scaring the crap outta me. Ahhh the toys of our childhood that scared us. Lol.
|
So one of my friends had this Amazing Ally doll and she had like little clip in accessories and would play games with you... but SHE WAS CREEPY and when her batteries got low her voice got all slow and demonic sounding. I was jealous for a while because I wanted one, but then I realized how terrifying she was.
|
I had a "My Kid Sister"
https://cdn0.rubylane.com/shops/cole...5541.1L.jpg?40 And after seeing a few movies about dolls that came to life, I shove her in a closet because I was afraid she was gonna start moving T^T |
Why are so many kids' toys horrifying?
|
They have been creepy for years. Did you see that one laughing doll from like the 70's? She looks creepy and when her batteries went down her voice box became demonic sounding.
|
I recently showed my father the commercial for that laughing doll, haha. We were watching YouTube in the living room and I was like "I dunno what it's called, just look up 'creepy laughing doll' and you should find it"
Luckily I never had anything like that. I'm trying to think if I had anything creepy but I can't come up with anything. |
it all started when teddy ruxpin's cassette tape was damaged. terrorizing children since 1985.
|
Yeah, I've seen videos of dying Teddy but I never had one, hahaha.
Even my many Furbies never terrorized me that I know of. I guess I didn't have very many battery operated toys. But I did have and love one of these: https://i.imgur.com/9FIrISm.jpg I dunno if it was the same brand but the dog I had looked just like this one. It had a leash and when you pressed a button it like hopped forward I think. |
Oh I had something like that. It was controlled by a "leash" that when you pushed forward it walked, and then if you push another button it hopped, and another it barked.
This was mine I think: https://i.pinimg.com/736x/97/97/d1/9...na-walking.jpg Also here's something for Nostalgia: http://austin.culturemap.com/crop/32...oll-dolls1.jpg |
Sounds familiar, maybe I had that one. All I remember is a fluffy white dog with a leash. And I definitely had some troll dolls as well. :D Mine had cavemen costumes like this:

I remember GoGo and I'm pretty sure my stepbrother had Robbie, but I'm not sure which one. By the time we saw it, it wasn't working that well. I had a collection of Troll Dolls but I may have tossed them a while ago. The first one I got was in that same rainbow set in the picture. It was teal, so it would be out of the pick and next to the green. ;) I did keep some of my old MLP's though. Not sure I have the old "Firefly's Adventure" anymore (vhs) but I still have the Firefly re-release that came with it. My niece commented once that Firefly was apparently Rainbow Dash's mom, or in her school's "fannon" she was. I'm a little sad I got rid of most of my ponies. I have the special "teen" ponies with the super long legs, and one of the old "big brothers" guys, with the 'hairy' feet. I actually re-bought my old "Quarterback" from eBay for $13. Also Lisa Frank. There's a reason that *points* is in my sig. |
Oh yes, I was OBSESSED with Lisa Frank. I didn't get nearly as much stuff that I wanted, but I was in the fan club and got magazines each month and as well as a catalog with clothing and stuff. I wanted soooo many of the things! And I'm SUPER happy that Hot Topic is starting to carry Lisa Frank stuffs now. Bringing back the good stuff <3
