Trisphee, rhymes with Clithsby. I think that's how you spell it. The butler character from the episode of Psych called 100 Clues? Garrett Morris played him?

Coda 09-21-2018 10:10 PM

Putting the accent on the second syllable or shortening it to a prefix is fine.

Calling it Trish pee is unacceptable.

I vaguely remember a lot of people doing that.

mdom 09-22-2018 11:16 AM

What is wrong with people
I'll pee on them

MonBon 09-22-2018 07:52 PM

I don't remember when I joined nor if I was active. I do remember it took me a bit to get into the site

mdom 09-22-2018 09:04 PM

Your profile says july 2015 !

Witchchylde 09-22-2018 09:08 PM

MonBon 09-22-2018 10:26 PM

Sounds about right

KittyBeary 09-23-2018 05:17 AM

Woot. XD

Espy 09-27-2018 12:35 AM

This is what Tris looked like shortly after CBT ended, by the way. I don't remember exactly what the shattered glass effect was for -- I would have guessed Taskal War, but that didn't happen until after Nox, which was in September.

Coda 09-27-2018 01:18 AM

It was for the site redesign. I made the old site gradually break down and mess up until I launched the new one.

OH RIGHT. That was pretty cool. Though the whole tilted forum titles thing gave several people headaches, IIRC.

Biomecha 09-27-2018 02:05 AM

I forwarded it to 2011, did all the new entertainment subforums not have enough activity?

KittyBeary 09-27-2018 04:39 AM

Nice to see how the site used to look. :3

It was a combination of things.

We decided that too much granularity was likely to make it harder for people to know where to put their threads (which would then require a moderator to fix), and also we saw that forums had maybe one or two active threads in general which meant that anywhere you looked the site looked pretty idle. Tightening up the forum index also just made it look better.

So all in all, the decision was a win.

trystan830 09-27-2018 10:09 AM

ooh, thanks for that link, Espy! i joined only in 2014, and it looked like this. =)

mdom 09-27-2018 11:03 AM

Wow, that header art of 2011 was so beautiful

Espy 09-27-2018 01:56 PM

I’m not sure who did that, but the 2013-2016 art was drawn by Meizicht, IIRC.

Coda 09-27-2018 03:04 PM

We commissioned Bleedman to make the original banner.

Espy 09-27-2018 03:25 PM

...wait. you commissioned WHO?!

Coda 09-27-2018 03:32 PM

Bleedman. Yes, he's rather famous. That's why we commissioned him. I'm not sure it was a good investment (and I wasn't sure about it at the time either) but the rest of the staff thought that having the first thing you see look like that would be a good way to catch users' attention and therefore bring in revenue.

Gallagher 09-27-2018 03:39 PM

i mean. it wasn't a good investment, lmao. but it's not like it matters at this point.

Coda 09-27-2018 04:15 PM

The strategy was sound, but the commission was too expensive to pay for itself.

Death by Mirrors 09-27-2018 06:06 PM

I have never joined any site because of a cool banner.

(User profile, yes. But only once. And that was NaNoWriMo, way back when they still had their little flash books. And I don't even like flash.)

Espy 09-27-2018 06:09 PM

I’m kind of curious how much the commission cost, but at the same time, I kind of do not want to know...

Coda 09-27-2018 06:45 PM

We didn't expect anyone to JOIN because of the cool banner, but high-quality graphics definitely do help RETAIN users because it gives a feeling of overall value to the site. It's not necessarily even a conscious thing.

I think it was something like $300. I don't remember for sure. As far as commission prices are concerned it's not bad for something with that many characters in it, but I don't think we sold $300 more in runes than we would have sold otherwise.

Espy 09-27-2018 07:20 PM

Mhh. Not everything needs to be a 1:1 ratio in terms of actual money. Perhaps you got more than $300 back relative to donations and user retention, which generates income from donations gradually.

Coda 09-27-2018 07:40 PM

I was taking that into account, though. The bump to retention is a fairly subtle thing, and I think that if we had something more like the banner that replaced it from the beginning that we wouldn't have seen much difference. Obviously this is only speculation, since I can't set up any experiments to compare the two, and there's SO MUCH MORE that goes into what makes the community successful that it's hard to measure in the first place, but I think the fact that we don't HAVE character art in the header right now and our user retention is based primarily on community interaction and item releases is a sign that the same has probably been true for most of our history.

MonBon 09-27-2018 08:33 PM

the cool banner being the shop owners?

Espy 09-27-2018 08:49 PM

Both cool banners have been shopkeeps.

mdom 09-27-2018 09:44 PM

I mean the one with the phoenix: http://web.archive.org/web/201110061...ee.com/forums/

KittyBeary 09-28-2018 12:04 AM

So awesome ;u;

Death by Mirrors 09-28-2018 03:54 AM

Well, again I can only speak for myself, but what makes me stay on a site is the community. I've joined a few other avi sites that (in my opinion) had better art than Trisphee, and still this is my virtual home of choice. Community aside though, I think overall value also comes if the color scheme matches, whether or not there are ads on the site, and how easy or bug free it is to use. So the decision makes no sense to me, but then again I don't even need to understand every decision some old staff made years ago *shrug*

KittyBeary 09-28-2018 06:26 AM

Community is a main part for me, too, and if I can easily get used to the site's overall design, plus if it doesn't take forever to load is also a key factor.

mdom 09-28-2018 01:14 PM

TRISPHEE HAS RAINBOW ON THE PALETTE THEREFORE IS THE BEST SITE

if it didn't... hm... well... not sure...

Death by Mirrors 09-28-2018 03:49 PM

Pfft, Tattered Weave has Prism Party, which is an entire event dedicated to rainbows :P
