Why do avatar sites incite such drama? o Ao

Kotetsu 11-23-2010 07:33 AM

Because they're filled with angsty teenagers? XD

I just looked at Chloria again because I remembered having registered months ago.
And that site is cute! I like the forum design and the avatars!

It should definitely be more active.

It's a contagious disease! And it will omnomnom your cells x'D

edit: omai...Chloria's avi's are kinda cute xD. I like how they put bold outlines on the items x3

Damies 11-23-2010 07:41 AM

The disease of drama... how... pleasant. xD

Demagische 11-23-2010 07:43 AM

I know Malthea is upcoming, a friend with an addiction to Solia told me that. XD

Personally I like Crysandrea the best.

I've pretty much quit two of the sites, Gaia ya'll can guess why and Solia because I found it quite boring.

I just joined Ernya because a friend who was on crysandrea left but they're still on there, so I'll see how I like it. So far it's good.

Trisphee is not my favorite but I like this site, too. X3

Delirium 11-23-2010 08:00 AM

*taps her chin* Now let's see...
Gaia of course. I've put too much time and *sigh* money into it to ever walk away completely.

Menewsha, I liked the pixel work, the cat mascot the games and I felt so-so on the avatars, but there are many options

Zan..something or other. You had a job system you could log into for work

Avaricia, I'm not sure what's going on with that site. It might be down for maintenance

Yeah, the avis looks really adorable. <3

Yeah, Manuel//Cookies was a good friend of mine. I found out about this a week ago, I had talked to him several times since he started working on it again, but he failed to mention it to me. Of course I had no clue he was working on it because Elidiun <url removed> hadn't changed, I'm so glad I didn't let him have access that side of things. When I confronted him about it, he tried to make peace with offering me an "ultra-mod" job. That just succeeded in pissing me off, I like being given credit where deserved, and the entire concept of Elidiun is my own. I just hope that he doesn't use everything I put into it, I might just end up relinquishing the domain elidiun.com to him, it's obviously no use to me now. But it doesn't expire until April so~

As for the original bases looking like Crysandrea's the same person who made Cry's made mine lol.
We had been talking about going with a more chibi like base due to feedback we were getting with the more realistic bases.
Cookies obviously paid attention to that.

I think he believes because he's put work into since he went off on his own, he feels like his ownership is warranted...
But that doesn't change the fact that it's stolen.

Sorry for the wall of text. >_____>;

Silverbleed 11-24-2010 05:16 PM

It already links to a new host when I'm loading it o_o But the new one looks pretty horrible (that font is a no no)

Vox 11-24-2010 05:30 PM

PostLife: wow, what a horrid tale. I don't think an avi site that starts out with bad blood and Q of ownership can thrive. -_-;

I hope you can make a new one.

Athilea Majiri 11-27-2010 12:22 PM

I am on several sites myself. And all of them as Athilea Majiri.

Gaiaonline, it was the first. I don't really long on anymore though because they are money hungry.
Earnya. LOVE their avatars. Pretty, and the items are very nice to.
Crysandrea, which I'm enjoying quite a bit.
Soliaonline, I like the avatars and items, but I hate the events. The only thing really keeping me is a REALLY interesting role play I'm in.
Menewsha, it's cute and I've met some friendly people there.
Roliana, I have a few friends there, some interesting rp, and it's the second site I got into.
Zantarni, I'm enjoying the way they have things set up. It's a cute site with some interesting ideas and it's more medieval based then any other site I've been on.
Midorea, I'm really enjoying they way they do their events. The forums, unfortunately, are slow. Many of the members are working to fix that. The avatars are nice, and so are the items. The community is friendly.
I'm alson on Kinsaki. I've been there a while, but I haven't been active until recently. I don't really know why. The community seems friendly enough, if not high speed.

So..that's pretty much it. None of them new, but all the ones that I really know of. Some of which I have not seen mentioned here.

Yeah, the bases aren't that hot.
I don't know the staff yet, but I know it changed recently because the original owner left.

Athilea Majiri 11-27-2010 12:28 PM

I am curious how one goes about starting an avatar site? I kind of had an idea for one, but there's no way I could afford it now. I'm just curious what it would take....Hrm...

Pinkie 11-27-2010 01:24 PM

This is the newest site for me...im a long term member of avaricia <url removed> so this is kinda along the same lines...almost

Alyssia 11-28-2010 02:26 PM

Well Lilifactory is rather new, the community is rather slow though I enjoy it there. I also stalk Malthea's blog for updates as well. I would say its something to look out for.
I can't really say that I have a favorite site...I spend most of my time on Lili, or here. Although I'm a member of a lot of different places, the ones that I'm inactive on are the ones you could say I'm not really happy with like Solia, Ernya, (lost interest) Gaia, and a few others.
Outside of Malthea I can't say I'm looking forward to any other sites...if you know of any that are interesting feel free to let me know about them.

It's exciting, but a pain in the butt. If you have the money, I'm sure it's not that annoying until the community is up and running (and demanding items and features). I'd have to say the two most difficult things to do are: (1.) Coming up with a unique name and look that will attract users but define the site as something different (and not get you in trouble with theft of ideas. Oi.); and, (2.) Finding a pixel artist and/or coder. (This one is especially difficult for those tight on money. I ended up abandoning my site because of this reason.)

Otherwise I guess it would be easy enough to create it. ( But then, once everything has taken off (assuming you did take off), you would need to handle your staff and community... Just more work. xD; )

Absinthe 11-30-2010 01:19 PM

Well I've learned a lot from this thread o.o

I spend most of my time on Ernya. And then here. Although I really don't come on here that often, but since there's an event I'm here /shot

I got bored with Gaia, I didn't like Solia, Roliana, Menewsarhaiurgal whatever, or any of those.

As for new ones, I go on Jinksu like once a month to see what weird stuff has recently happened XDD

I'm waiting for Malthea and Elidiun now. I've never been around for the opening of a site, and for some odd reason I want that really badly D: lol

Side note: that's so sad about the happenings on Elidiun ;__;

NoLifeKing 11-30-2010 01:34 PM

I want to start reading this thread from the beginning but I don't have the time or the motivation to do it right now. >:

Looks interesting so far!

Zypher 11-30-2010 01:36 PM

This belongs in gamers heaven. That is the only area on the site where discussion of other avatar sites are allowed. For future reference, check under technology 101. There is a one day redirect. After that, the thread will move automatically.

((___jade___))> 11-30-2010 02:08 PM

Haha I'm crazy into avi sites. @__@ I'm on so many.
My first one was Gaia but I'm not very hot on that one anymore. I still go on there often for whatever reason, but I never go in the forums. I basically don't talk to anyone because it's so hard to find someone actually worth talking to on there.
Other sites that I do like are Kinsaki and Solia right now. And Zantarni. But I'm most active on those first two right now. I haven't been active on Solia in ages but I'm going back, hoping that I can have some good experiences there to erase the old, not-so-good ones.
I've heard of almost all the sites that have been mentioned though. xD I'm members on all of them. @__@ And yeah, the newest site that I'm a member of would be LiliFactory. It's slow and that's why I'm having trouble getting into it.
-is too tired to be interesting right now-

Sadrain 11-30-2010 02:17 PM

Well, I used to be super active on Menewsha, my first avvie site ever, but... things kind of changed there and then I found Trisphee, and it has been my main and favorite site ever since. There have been ups and downs, but I am still here and going to remain so, unless something unexpected happens.
Yea, I am also kinda registered on many many other avvie sites, even played Solia nearly two eyars ago kind of actively for a while, but community in most places pushed me away. ^^;

Devlyn 11-30-2010 07:06 PM

I use Solia and used to use Ernya but issues arose and I no longer use the site whatsoever.

NoLifeKing 11-30-2010 07:43 PM

Is TinierMe considered an avatar site? I haven't been on there in forever. Other than that and Solia, Trisphee is the only place that I frequent.

I didn't like TM because there wasn't enough content when I got into it (about a year and a half ago?) I got back into it briefly when they were handing out codes for event items at an c

Solia loses its charm pretty quickly but I still like it. I think that they have really nice bases. I don't like it when avatars look chibi or fat or super deformed or whatever you want to call it when they aren't proportioned correctly. >:

Thats the problem I tend to run into, I have a fantastic friend who does coding for me for free. But pixel artists of even decent quality are a rare find. At least for me, haha.

Stalker 12-01-2010 06:44 AM

Mmh. I'm really excited for Elidiun. Open Beta starts pretty soon.

I used to frequent quite a few sites.
Gaia used to be where I was most active but then I moved onto Roliana.
After Roliana, I joined Piitown, then Solia, Crysandrea and a few others.
Crysandrea is pretty fun though. <3

:] Most of my time is spent helping with Elidiun now, trying my best to help get everything organized.

iCookies 12-01-2010 07:57 PM

Anyone concerned about Elidiun go here: <link removed>

Kamikaze Chinchilla 12-03-2010 10:35 AM

iCookies wanted me to see the explanation to get both sides of the story. Although I see that iCookies has now removed it. For everyone else, his explanation was that the site had 'group ownership' and that Postlife purchased the url and had rights to it, but then was helped with the funding by the others. And because it was group ownership, from what iCookies said, Postlife could not be called the 'one' owner. However, from Postlife's side of the story, she was taken down from the owner/admin position and was offered a mod position. She was upset afterwards.

However, this does not show that 1+1=2. If it was truly a group ownership, why would someone be upset from the change? Group ownership means that everyone is equally important to the team and that everyone owns the project, so titles/positions should not matter.

Just explain, truthfully and not just 'one sided'.

One or both of you answer these questions, please:
1 - Every website starts with 'one' person. That one person comes up with the idea and brings it to the table with at least one other person. Who was that one person?
2 - Did that person distinctly say or imply that they were the sole owner so that everyone understood the terms?
3 - Did the person who started the idea agree to 'group ownership', or was it decided by the team without the consultation of the person with the original idea and/or whoever the owner was?
4 - Did you have enough communication where all the decisions were acceptable?
5 - I understand that there is a phase 1 and phase 2. In other words, the old version and the new version. Who funded the site in phase 1? Who is funding the site in phase 2?
6 - Do you believe that ownership of a business goes to the one that does more work or does it go to the one who originally set up the project and/or claimed original ownership?

*sits back and listens* Let's fill in the holes here.

And the site is now <url removed>

PostLife 12-03-2010 11:25 AM

1. That one person was Me, followed shortly by Christopher.

2. I had struggles with Cookies over ownership from the beginning, lord knows why. I had brought him on with the intent to just be a member, not in charge of anything. :/ I had believed he'd grown to understand that he was not in any way shape or form co-owner, owner, etc. He was expendable, and if I had decided so he would have been gone quickly. I offered him a modding position, because he proved valuable.

3. The only "group ownership" would have been Chris and I.
4. I had a firm hand like any leader should, but was very open to change and growth, I don't believe I was a tyrant. We decided things as a group. Some things weren't feasible, so I said so, and moved on.

5. The original was funded by me. I know nothing of the second Elidiun.

6. It should belong to the person who was the original person funding & coming up with ideas and finding people to work with. Which would be myself, and if I had a co-owner, Chris.

Kamikaze Chinchilla 12-03-2010 11:43 AM

..Now that brings up more questions..

I'm only assuming things here, but maybe Chris had something to do with this and he didn't want to approach you.

1 - Was phase 1 funded entirely by you or did you have some help with the funding?
2 - You make it sound like Chris was a co-owner, but later you make it sound like he wasn't. Was he a co-owner?
3 - Was this departure from the original elidiun something that was Chris' idea, or was it iCookies' idea?
4 (multi-question) - So I'm assuming you also were the one that picked out the name for elidiun. And it seems to me that they are changing everything and starting from scratch, minus the name. Were you the one that decided the name? Would you feel better if they changed the name? Or would you prefer that the ownership issue were cleared up so that you and Chris could be in charge again? Or just let them keep the name and rights to the project?

PostLife 12-03-2010 05:04 PM

1. By me entirely.
2. In a way he was, but it was my project. He was more of an co-advisor.
3. Cookies as far as I know, Chris says he didn't join till november Ish.
4. Elidiun was a combo of mine and chistophers, I ok'd the name, after making sure it was well liked. Honestly I don't care anymore, cookies has ruined elidiun for me. So I'm done, I'll let him run it into the ground like he did with Kronos Phase. I'm ready to start fresh and new without any of them.

Sushi 12-03-2010 08:12 PM

lol. I thought this thread was about new avatar sites. Not to sound rude, but it seems like you guys are just telling everyone what's wrong with others, or why you do not like them?

Kamikaze Chinchilla 12-04-2010 01:48 AM

We are talking about things that are elidiun related, and elidiun is an upcoming site. I thought clarification was necessary since both sides were only providing bits and pieces. So, in all honesty, I would prefer for both people to answer the questions. iCookies may not be wrong, but he only provided something that left me with more questions than I originally had, and he has yet to answer them.

But if this is group ownership, at least they all have an equal voice. I think that is good because one person might have flaws that another person can help cover up with his/her strengths, or maybe one of them has to leave then the others can fill in the empty spot. I think elidiun might be the first avatar site to have a group ownership. Usually it's a few owners, but never the whole team. So I think it will be interesting to see how it turns out as far as the management style goes.

Stalker 12-04-2010 05:14 PM

I've contributed 50 dollars towards ElidiunOnline.

From what I've heard, there was a lack of communication between the three of them. Them being, Post, Chris, and Cookies.
Chris and Cookies stayed within contact and continued the project, and I was invited along to participate in the administrative role and now I've been funding the project for hosts/domains etc to get it moving along.

I really enjoy working with the family that there is now. :] There isn't any drama within the group behind elidiunonline, and I'm quite thrilled with that. Everyone works together as a group, as it had been intended.

iCookies 12-04-2010 05:39 PM

Postlife only funded 10$ for the domain, that's it. She poofed away and me and Chris continued. Meagan never contacted us and I got new bases with my funds and we continued Elidiun. Chi spent 50$ and Meagan Imd me wanting to join even as a mod and I let her join as head mod as we have 3 admins already, she saw the beta site and boom, started asking for site ownership and such.

She showed aggressive mood and we do not need that on the team.

Zypher 12-04-2010 06:00 PM

I don't mind you guys discussing the site in full, however, I will ask that all LINKS to other sites be removed. Please make sure to keep to the rules. Linking to other sites can be considered advertisement which will not help either party as they would get into trouble needlessly.
