my state(QLD-AUS) added an extra 15mins a day so we got an extra 2 weeks holiday :D

In my school district back home they extended the school day by 10 minutes and SHORTENED summer by a few days. Something about a mandate in the mid-90s about kids needing to spend more time in school.

It wasn't shortened; it was 9-4 for elementary school and 8-3 for middle/high school when I started school, and then it was extended to 4:10 and 3:10 my freshman year of high school.
