She sighed, forcing herself to try and relax. "Well..there's only..one now..." She looked away, her eyes returning to brown. "You cannot blame me for being cautious. If the others found out that you're a slayer, both of us would have considerably shortened lives." She glanced around another time, letting out a quiet sigh. As William got closer, she couldn't help but tense up again. He wouldn't hurt her..right? He kind of stated so.
She turned, feeling a bit better than he was no loner at her back. "We should be going, I have a feeling that if we stay any longer, something bad is about to happen." She was curious if Will would even go with her. |
"Only one left?" William smiled, a full smile this time. "Well, you certai.nly have been busy since..." He cleared his throat, glancing away from her.
"Yes, you're probably right. Where did you have in mind? My place? Or..." He trailed off, not sure where she meant to go. It was crazy that he wanted to go with her, wherever it was that she was going. He shouldn't want to. He should leave. |
"They found me, thank you very much. I don't know where to go...definitely not my place, I often have visitors..." She shrugged watching him carefully. She couldn't believe that he was ignoring his training. It made her happy, but she had no idea how long the world would allow it to last.
|
William nodded. "My place then. I never have visitors. Well, besides you. Slayer's tend to avoid one another, you know, just like one big happy family." He said, his tone becoming sarcastic at the end. He tilted his head slightly in a motion that would tell her to follow him and began to walk. He was tense as he did so. Would she try and attack from behind?
In truth, he wasn't sure why he was allowing himself to act like this, or how long he would continue to do so. Their predicament was something he had never expected to face. He wished he could make it go away. |
Artemis nodded slightly, picking at her nails as they walked. She could tell he did not like having her behind him, but she didn't really want to walk next to him either. She decided, to hopefully make it a bit better for him, she scurried to the side and just a tad bit in front of him, so he could watch her. "Even if I was going to attack you, which I would never; I'd never be so cowardly to come at your back."
|
William couldn't help but smile at that. "You don't seem like the type who would fight that way. I know that. It's just... training dies hard." He glanced at her face for a moment then continued looking ahead of him. "I wish I could say the same for myself, but the way I've been trained..." He shrugged. "All is fair in a fight. The important thing is to win." He glanced back at her suddenly, realizing that his words could indicate he might attack her. "Except... were I to attack you, which I certainly have no plans on doing, I wouldn't be so underhanded. You... deserve better than cheap tricks."
|
Artemis chuckled slightly, really tempted to ruffle his hair, but she refrained from the action, "Hun, no matter how hard you try, you could not sneak up on me." She winked lacing her fingers together behind her back, looking up at the sky, "Many of the vampires in this city do not have the years of experience that I have; not that I'm trying to praise myself." She shrugged, maybe she was.
|
William raised an eyebrow. Her words sounded like a challenge, and he did love challenges. "Oh, is that so? You should probably know there are far more tricks in my book than simply sneaking up on my prey. You, my dear, would not know what hit you." He said, his voice playful. He was tempted to 'sneak up' behind her now and but his arms around her, but he resisted. That would not be a wise move. It was so easy to be around her, even knowing what she was. William knew he should be more on his guard, but it seemed almost... pointless. Why guard against someone who he trusted not to hurt him?
|
Artemis laughed, "Oh really? I dare you to try and catch me." She glanced to him, as she moved far too quickly for him to see. When she has finally settled to a normal human pace, she was quite a few yards away from him, walking backwards to watch him, "Come on. Don't tell me that Mr. Special Slayer can't catch a little vampire like myself."
|
William's eyes locked onto Artemis as she ran ahead of him. He hesitated. Was it okay to be so carefree with her? It was so tempting, almost irresistible. It wasn't until she had walked back that he had made his decision to be friendly with her. What could it hurt, really? Only himself, and were he to inadvertently die at her hand, well, would that death be so terrible?
He grinned. "Catch you? I don't need to catch you. I can make you come to me." His voice dropped, low and seductive sound as he spoke the last sentence. "I'm irresistible." He words became more playful them, but still seductive. |
Artemis bent forward a bit as she continued to walk backwards as effortlessly walking normally, "Oh, are you now? Ah, yes yes, I see. I'm very tempted you know." She smiled brightly, laughing quietly, "But that's not going to work unless you put some effort into it."
|
William realized too late that he was flirting with her. Still being friends with her was bad enough, but had he really lost enough judgement to still flirt with her? If a romantic relationship couldn't work between them before, there was no way it could work now. Yet he had already began, and refused to simply quick now.
He walked a bit faster so he was closer to her. He chuckled, low and husky sounding. "Of course, I also put my best effort forth for beautiful women." He told her, his eyes becoming half-lidded as he looked at her. Perhaps she would see an act, but right now he had never been closer to the truth. |
"Is that so?" She couldn't help but laugh at him as she turned on her heel and walking forward again. "I knew I could get you chasing after me." She turned around again, putting her pinky to the corner of her mouth, "I'm oh so clever~"
|
"Chasing? Who is chasing you? You certainly can't be referring to me, could you?" He laughed and winked slightly, speeding up his walk even more, so it was almost like a run. Knowing he shouldn't but doing it anyway, he moved his arms around her waist as sneakingly as he could and pulled back so he could squeeze her to him. "I can not be out foxed." He murmured.
|
Artemis jumped a bit as he pulled her back, "Oh, I have underestimated you~ Perhaps I'll have to step up my deviousness?" She stopped looking up at him, unsure of her next witty comment or maneuver. Suddenly, an idea came to mind. She grinned, standing up on her toes and giving him a quick peck on the cheek, "It appears I have been captured then."
|
William was shocked by her kiss. It threw him for a moment and he was unsure of how to react. "Yes... yes you have." He said softly, staring down at her. His eyes darkened with attraction. He wanted to kiss her then, pull her closer to him and hold her there. That is exactly why he let her go. His arms loosened around her and he pulled back. "Fortunately for you, I am merciful, and will spare you this one time."
|
She could feel hesitation as William let her go, and that made her smile, internally of course. "And I thank you for your merciful ways." She started forward again, knowing they weren't too far from his house now. After all, they had been walking for quite some time already.
As they came around the corner, she stopped, tilting her head a bit. She was silent, listening to the nighttime sounds of the city. She looked around, "I swear I could sense...someone, but I guess I'm just being paranoid." |
William looked around as Artemis voiced her suspicions. He couldn't see anyone, but he'd rather be safe than sorry. "My apartment's just up ahead. Let's hurry." He said, then picked up the pace. It would be bad if a slayer or vampire saw them, very bad, especially with them acting do friendly toward one another.
They reached his door and he pulled the door open for her. "After you." He said politely, his eyes still scanning the dark. |
She nodded, keeping alert as she hurried after him. She slithered inside the door, waiting for him in the lobby, "I wasn't able to tell if it was human or vampire, but personally-" She jumped as she felt a invisible force, knowing as telekinesis, hurl past her at William. She couldn't let that hit him, it was a fairly powerful attack. She quickly moved into the path of the attack, using her own TK to hold her in place as she took most of the attack's force.
She quickly looked to where the source came from, obviously the only other person in the room. She bit her lip; hoping William would let her handle this. She spoke in low tones so that only the vampire would be able to hear her, or at least, she hoped; William was not your average human, "Go away, can't you see you're interrupting my meal?" Of course, that wasn't true, but she wanted him to go away. |
William's entire body tensed as he felt the presence of another vampire. He could do so easily now, though when he had first met Artemis he had significant trouble with it. By the time he had mastered it he already saw her as a friend.
His first instinct was to pull out his weapons and attack, but he resisted. He got the feeling Artemis would want to handle this, though the idea put him on edge. He heard her words, though just barely and felt his blood run cold. Part of him was sure she had to be bluffing, though after tonight he could not be sure. So he froze, his eyes shifting around, waiting for a sign that he should interfere. |
The other vampire was hesitant, but after a few tense moments, he vanished. Artemis waited a moment, pinching the bridge of her nose, "I tell you, one of these days.." She looked back to William, sensing his apprehension, "You know I wasn't serious..right?" She was pleased this did not end up in a fight, she couldn't be caught actually defending William, it would end up getting her in so much trouble, "I'm sure he'll be back, but I'll make sure to be somewhere else so you don't get involved in whatever it is he wants."
|
William relaxed a little, though the presence of the other vampire had made him wary. He walked toward Artemis. "I know." Was all he said to her comment about her lie. He did know, just as he knew that he still deeply cared for her, and just as he knew that he could never hurt her. He knew, but that didn't mean he necessarily believed it. After all, he was a good lair, even to himself.
William shrugged and continued walking to his apartment. "Either way it doesn't really matter. I can handle myself." He had been going to add, 'against a vampire' to his sentence, but wasn't sure how she would react to it. He wondered if she would believe he was as capable as he said. After all, the only fight she had seen the end effects of had been tonight, and he hadn't exactly come out unscathed. |
"It's not that I believe you can't, but still, if you got hurt, or killed, because of me, I could never forgive myself." She followed him up, putting her hands in her well hidden pockets. She had no doubt about William's skills, but he was much more breakable than she was, and that's what worried her.
|
William half-smiled and unlocked his door, holding it open. He wasn't sure if he was pleased that she still cared so much for him, or if he wished she wouldn't. He thought it all would be much simpler if she just wanted to kill him, but he was beginning to see that would never happen.
"You really shouldn't worry so much." He said, though in a good-natured tone, not like before. "My problems with vampires are not your fault. It's because of what I am. It's my fault." He paused, considering. "Though if you really want to blame someone, blame my mother. Whom I'm even more certain you would not want to meet." His mother, the head of the slayer council, would not like his choice of friends. |
Artemis slipped inside turning around as he entered, "I'm pretty sure I would not. At least, you don't have to worry about my parents, I suppose. They died hundreds of years ago." She shrugged, not really caring about the fact. After all, she hardly even remembered her parents. "Well, now what..?" She obviously didn't require sleep right now, not that she would anyway. She probably wouldn't sleep for a few weeks now.
|
William shut the door behind him and turned with a sigh. He waved her into the living room. "I suppose we... talk... about this. Though I'm unsure what to say, exactly." He said, scratching the back of his head. He sat down on the couch, leaning against it. "Come on, sit." He motioned for her to take a seat of her choice. He wondered if she would sit next to him, or on the single chair across from him.
|
Artemis swiftly helped herself to the spot next to him on the couch, "I don't really know either, other than how we're expecting to keep this hidden. I..just don't know. I mean, I can block them out of my mind easy enough..but still. I was in enough trouble for being friends with you in the first place, and now that they might figure out you're a slayer, and I still wish to be your friend, I don't know what's going to happen. I..." She trailed off, knowing she was going to start blabbing needlessly. He knew all this already, after all, he was in the same situation.
|
William nodded and leaned back so he could stare at his ceiling. "No slayers know about you. Having emotional ties to anyone is forbidden. If they had known, they would have come after you and killed you to punish me." He grimaced, not liking the idea at all.
"There is no problem in keeping you a secret from them, unless I do something to make them suspicious. Which I never have." He paused. "How to keep me a secret from other vampires seems to be the problem then. So... if I were to be a regular human we could continue on as before?" |
As much as she would love that, she still couldn't force William to give up his lifestyle. It was..wrong..even if he was out to kill her kind. "No, you still have your past actions to worry about...they would care less if you weren't a slayer. And you mean, they would've tried to kill me. I may look 20, but I'm sure you knwo I'm far older than that. You humans are only slayers for so many years before you train new ones who lack the experience, but have the speed your older members wish to possess once more."
She suddenly started to laugh for a moment before quickly quieting down, "You know, the more I think about the fact that I'm not 20, the more I feel like a pedophile or something of the sort. Not to mention, I feel so..ancient next to you. Damn.." She scoffed slightly, rolling her eyes with a slight smile. |
William raised an eyebrow dramatically. It was kind of sad, he thought, that out of all the things she had just said, he was focused on her comment about being a pedophile. "Pedophile? I believe that means you'd actually have to have touched me in a..." He cleared his throat. "non-friendly manner." He smiled slightly. "Which you haven't, so I believe you're safe on that." He nearly added 'for now' to that sentence, but decided it was best left alone. Those feelings did not help their current situation. "Unless I was asleep, or something. Though I'm really not that deep of a sleeper, so you would have had to drug me, and while I can see you doing a lot of things, rape has never been on of them." He teased her with a laugh.
|
Artemis chuckled, leaning forward, narrowing her eyes playfully, "How would you know? I can keep you asleep with just a tiny thought in my mind; I'm a master at the psychic arts." She winked, with a slightly sly and dirty expression on her face as she sat back, "Ah, I kid, I would never do that to my best friend." As tempting as that is...
|
William chuckled deeply. "I'm not really sure I believe you, after all, who could resist this?" He gestured to himself as a whole and smiled slyly. "Not that I'd blame you. It must be so hard for you to keep your hands to yourself." He said this dramatically, to let her know he was clearly kidding.Just as hard as it is for me to keep my hands to myself.
|
"Oh don't tempt me!" She raised her hands, her fingers tapping at the air, "You might regret it Will." It was true, though. She was trying incredibly hard to not just grab him and feel him up. She bet he had some wonderful muscles under that shirt. She almost started to drool at the thought. She loved muscles. She quickly threw her hands in her lap raising a brow as her idea began to form in her mind, but she quickly tossed it out. Bad idea.
|
William shrugged. "Can't help it. Born this way." He said then looked away dramatically. "I just can't stop being sexy, no matter how hard I try." He laughed then, not able to keep his act going. Besides, the thought of her touching him was more than nice. He decided not to look back at her, in order prevent his eyes from roaming.
((Lady Gaga reference /thumbs up )) |
[['roaming eyes..nice xD]]
Artemis was oh so tempted to grab him, even if it was to just further their little facade they had going right now. It would crack her up to see his reaction. She debated a moment on how she could get the best reaction from him. She would have to be careful though, she could occasionally get..forceful[if you know what i mean /winkwink]. Finally, she settled on what she would do. She brought her hand up and gently traced her finger along his chin and down his chest as she spoke, "Well you better try harder, I don't know how much longer I can resist all that sexiness." Her tone was sly, and rather light for the fact that her words were true. It was getting increasingly hard to keep in her spot on the couch. |
William sucked in a sudden breath at her unexpected touch. Slowly, he turned his head to look at her. He should laugh now and put a rest the their little joke, but he was tempted to let it continue. He almost want to see how far it could go before she would realize it wasn't a joke for him anymore.
He lifted his hand and placed it gently under her chin, bringing her face just a little closer. "You've done so well, having resisted all this time. Should I reward you?" His voice was as playful as he could make it, but it was edged with a husky attraction. He hoped he hid it well. |
Artemis paused for a minute as she was bringing her hand back to her lap, slightly surprised. She could sense something..off about his tone, not to mention the emotions just rolling off his body. Had she played with his emotions enough? Oh hell no. She enjoyed it way too much, but she was a bit tired of teasing him; not to mention herself. She didn't really know what to say to him, really debating the tone of her voice, if she would open her mouth to say something but found it almost impossible to do so in a playful manner.
|
William stared into her eyes for a long moment as he begun to realize he had gone to far. Her silence unnerved him. "Cat got your tongue, Artemis?" Could he pull away now, perhaps laugh it off? He didn't like the sound of that. He needed a way to end this gracefully. Then a idea formed and he smiled.
Leaning in slowly, he gently pulled her face closer and planted a soft kiss on her check. He lingered there, just a moment to long and smiled. "Generous of me, don't you think?" He asked, then dropped his hand and pulled away. |
Every inch of her wanted to just grab his head and kiss him flat out on the lips, but seeing as he was trying to resist getting this past their little joke, but that wouldn't stop her from discreetly making it worse. Right? She chuckled a bit, "I think you could've been just a tad more generous. I feel a bit stinged." She put the back of her arm to her fore head in a 'woe is me' manner, "I guess I'll just have to live with it though."
|
"Oh, ouch, that's just too much. How could I ever let you feel so neglected. It's inhumane." William chuckled and leaned closer to her, removing her arm from her head. He knew what he would do now, and he knew he should not do it, but knowing that would not prevent it.
He leaned in further and placed his lips gently on her's. Then he kissed her. It was a slow kiss, maddeningly sweet and tempting and almost painful. He knew it should be brief, but he couldn't seem to find the strength to pull away. |
