Jasmine leaned down, sniffing as well. "I... don't know the scent... but something about it... seems off." She raised her hand, ready to swipe over the red spot. It had to be some kind of juice, didn't it? So why could she bring herself to touch it? The action just felt wrong. She lowered her hand. "It's so red... almost like..." She hesitated to say this next word, but forced it out in the end. "..blood."
"Well," Zac said as he teleported to the study, "You two have it all figured out don't you?" He said turning on the light. He sighed, "Yes I am a vampire, but I am good. Now I know what you two are thinking but don't run." He said as he shut the door with telekinesis. "Sit. I have a few things to explain." Zac said pointing to the table.
Jasmine straightened instantly, staring over at Zac as he suddenly appeared. She stared at him with a confused expression as he spoke. Vampire? The thought hadn't even crossed her mind. Crazed serial killer? Yes. Vampire? No.
She jumped as the door shut behind her, spinning to look at it, then back to Zac. That couldn't have just happened. She closed her eyes and shook her head. Was she drunk or something? "Vampire... right. I only had one glass of whiskey, correct?" She asked no one in particular. |
"Actually, I was thinking it was Bloody Mary mix," she said to Jasmine.Kali stood up quickly as she heard Zac's voice. She was going to stammer out an explanation when he continued talking. She took into account that she did have about 3/4 of a bottle of vodka, but she shouldn't be hearing things. She didn't really know what to think, or say, so she just stood there, watching him intently.
Zac sighed, "I don't like lying to people. But my grandmother told me 132 years ago that my life would be filled with lies." He said pinching his nose. "How can I prove to you two that I am not mad or evil?" He asked with a sigh.
Jasmine arched her eyebrow in a skeptic expression. She looked at Kali for a moment before turning to look at Zac again. "Well, I didn't really think you were evil. Crazy, perhaps. It's either that or I drank a lot more than I thought I did." She took a step closer to him, not knowing why she did so, with a curious expression.
Kali nodded as Jasmine spoke, yet still had no idea what to say. She opened her mouth to agree with Jasmine, but quickly closed it, the nod was sufficient. She had read enough during her classes to know that some things, no matter the author or myth, were always consistent with vampires. Not that she believed him, but, a few things about him were making her wonder, ever so slightly.
She looked at his mouth closely as he spoke, but tried to not indicate that was what she was doing. Fangs. Fangs were always a key trait of vampires. Perhaps, she was curious about this because she had some alcohol. Were she sober, she'd laugh and ask him if she should admit him to a mental hospital. |
"I'm not crazy, why do they always think I'm crazy?" He said, muttering the last part. "And you two aren't drunk, Let me show you something." He said as he bent down and grabbed a knife from his ankle. "Now watch." Zac said as he put his hand against the wall. He stabbed the knife through his hand, he showed them his hand and pulled the knife out. His hand started to heal instantly.
Jasmine retracted her step as he pulled the knife out. She eyed it warily, a cry coming from her throat when he stabbed his hand with it. "Zac!" She said in shock. What could she do? Call the ambulance? Try to stop the bleeding? She glanced at Kali then back at Zac, only to do a double take. He was healed. "Oh my..." She trailed off, a shocked expression on her face.
Kali jumped at the knife. She was beginning to dislike this situation more and more as it continued. She wanted to sneak past him and drive as fast as she dared to her house, but, she couldn't. She could feel a tightening in her chest as he moved his hand. "What the hell? Are..you.." She trailed off, watching the wound close right before her eyes. "Whhhaattt?"
Despite her instinct to get the hell out of there, she took a cautious step forward, staring at his hand. She stopped, once she was next to Jasmine, knowing better than to move any closer. "I don't..." |
"I never get tired at human's reactions." Zac said with a slight chuckle. He threw the knife to the table, but before it landed it disappeared. He listened and heard it clang in the sink, Ah I am good." He said with a smile. "I think its time for you two to see my real eye color." He said as he pulled out his colored contacts. His eyes were a mild blue.
Jasmine watched the knife disappear. "Alright, when did I fall asleep? Because this is a dream. Clearly, this isn't happening." She shock her head, trying to be rational, but at the same time she was staring at Zac's face, watching his eyes as he talked about his true eye color. What did he mean? His eyes looked blue to her.
Kali was thoroughly confused now. This had to be some sort of trick. Perhaps they were on that damned MTV show..Punk'd or whatever. That had to be it. She nodded, trying to convince herself she was either way to drunk, or dreaming after she had passed out on Zac's couch after her asthma attack. Yes, that had to be it. But..why would she be dreaming this? Another thing to nag at her mind.
"No your not on TV Kali nor are you passed out, and no you are not asleep Jasmine." He said as he was suddenly in front of them. "I am what they call a vegetarian vampire, meaning I only drink animal blood." Zac sighed. "What can I do to prove to you that this is real?" He asked crossing his arms.
Jasmine jumped as Zac was suddenly in front of them. How could he prove what he was? Jasmine felt it was an odd question. If it were true wouldn't he trying to convince them otherwise? Still, she thought about his question seriously. What could he do? "Fangs!" She blurted out before she could stop herself. "Do you have fangs?"
Kali jumped, nearly clinging onto Jasmine. She nodded as Jasmine mentioned fangs, "Yeah! Fangs! And they better not be damn costume things..pull on them"
[[Lame post is lame]] |
Zac grew out his fangs and opened his mouth, "See." He said pulling on them and tapping them with his nail. He closed his mouth, "If you want to check them out for yourselves just promise me you wont cut your finger. I have been off human blood for 100 years." Zac said opening his mouth again.
Jasmine reached over, placing her finger on his right fang. It felt real. It looked real too. But there was no way it could be real. After all, vampires didn't exist. She slid her finger down from the top of the fang to the bottom, careful to avoid the sharp edges. There was nothing about it to say it was fake in anyway, so, with reluctance, Jasmine admitted to herself that he just might be a vampire.
Suddenly she felt very intrusive. Here she was with her hand in his mouth. How rude could she get? Quickly, she pulled away. "It seems real." She said, sounding slightly breathless. |
Kali just watched, not really willing to touch his..teeth. That was just weird. After all, she's seen what teeth can become. "But..this doesn't make any sense. Vampires aren't real..it's impossible..." Yet, the evidence before her seemed to prove other wise. She had no choice but to believe it. Her face became a bit pale as she tried to make her breathing appear normal as she felt her asthma kicking up again. Of course. Just when she wanted it to act up. Not. This is why the doctor gave you the inhaler Kali...you're supposed to keep it with you at all times.
"Yes we are real, we have been for centuries." He looked into the corner, "Damn it I told you not to come back here." Zac said with a bit of disgust.
"Oh come on now cousin, you tell these two pathetic human's about us and you expect me not to act. You may be the head of the family but you can't control me." Adam said with a dark smile. "Ya and you are here to challenge me right?" Zac said very irritated. "Ah you are very smart Zac, and I say the winner get's to eat those two." He said pointing to Kali and Jasmine. "Of course you wanna make this a blood challenge." He said with a sigh. "Ya, and I bet the pink hair one tastes delicious." Adam said licking his lips. Zac sighed, "You two stay up here." He said as he lunged at Adam. He grabbed onto him and teleported downstairs. |
Jasmine was shocked by the other vampires appearance, yet somehow she was not afraid. She figured it was because the situation was so very unreal. "Hmmm..." She said after a long pause. "You get the feeling he wasn't suppose to tell us what he was?" She asked, feeling the need to state the obvious.
Kali whirled around hearing another voice, "Gah! What the hell?" She moved away, but quickly stopped, noticing she was moving closer to Zac. She relaxed a bit once the two had vanished, "I do, and I'll tell you one thing, I'm getting the hell out of here. You need a ride?" She was unaware if Jasmine had a car or not, so she thought she'd ask.
"No, I have a car." Jasmine said, though she honestly didn't feel like leaving. Fear hadn't set in yet, and she was filled with curiosity. However, she knew she should leave. "Question is, how do we get out of here? I think they're downstairs. How would we get to our cars?"
"You don't want to do that Kali." Zac said via telepathy as he landed on top of Adam on the floor.
"Why must you protect all fucking humans Zac? They are our meals." Adam said as he kicked Zac off of him. "I just want to protect my friends from you Adam." He said as he landed on the floor. He sprung up, "You just don't know when to stop do you?" He asked as his eyes turned red. "Sorry Kali and Jasmine but I can't let you leave." He thought to himself as he put a telekinetic bind on their feet. "No I don't Zac." He said with a smirk. Adam lunged at Zac. Zac dodged Adam. "Come on I am on animal blood and your on human. You can do better then that." He said as he pushed Adam telekinetically so he would go through the wall. Adam went flying through the wall. "You ass." He said as he climbed out of the wall. He sent a telekinetic blast at Zac sending him flying backwards. |
Kali was halfway through getting out the window when she suddenly felt something holding her down, "Dammit..that's got to be Zac. Let me go dammit!" She tugged her legs, trying to move but found it impossible. "Fuck..anyway, I was going to suggest we climb out the window, using that tree, but seeing as I can't move..and I'm sure you can't either..I guess we'll stay here."
Jasmine tugged at her feet, though she wasn't nearly as disappointed as Kali seemed to be that they couldn't move. "Well, at least we'll get to see how the fight ends." She said to Kali, trying to lift her spirits a little. She doubted it would help Kali, but she wanted to know who would win. After all, it would decide if they lived or died.
She sighed with a nod, "I suppose...but why do I get the feeling we won't be in the clear even if Zac wins? I don't like feeling like I'm prey now. It's very nerve wracking and I definitely don't like it."
Zac went flying into the fireplace, making the painting that was hanging up fall on top of him.
"You may be faster then me Zac but I am stronger then you." Adam said with a grin. "We will see." Zac said as he teleported behind Adam and grabbing him by the neck. "You know we don't breath Zac." He said slightly amused. "I know but I want you to reconsider this. Or I will send you into a emotional storm." Zac said getting ready. "You wouldn't." Adam said already feeling sadder. "I would, and by the looks of things you are already getting sad." Zac said with a smile. "Fine I give, but trust me I will get you back soon." Adam said as he disappeared. "I know you will." Zac said as he teleported to the study. "Sorry about that." He said as he sat down. |
Jasmine blinked at Zac's sudden return. That had been quicker than she had anticipated, though she had heard a considerable amount of crashes coming from downstairs. It must have been pretty brutal.
She shrugged at his apology. "That certainly was... interesting." She said after a pause. |
Kali twisted so she could see him, but it was hard with one foot on the sill and the other on the floor. "If you don't mind," her tone was clipped, having not enjoyed still being here. She wouldn't jump out the window now, there was no need.
"Just a family squabble, now I'm gonna have to call a contractor." Zac said as he pondered. "Yes of course." He said as he let them out of their telekinetic restraints. "Now you two please have a seat I have a few things to discuss with you." He said pointing to the chairs.
Jasmine went obediently to her seat, curiosity overwhelming her. "Yes sir, Mr. Vampire sir." She said in a playfully serious voice.
Kali turned as she was released, sitting on the window sill, "I'll sit way over here, thank you." She was still irritated, as she was sure it was late and there was no way she'd be able to get up for her ACCUplacer test. "Can you make it brief? I have to be rested and at the college in," she looked at her watch; it was about 1am, "7 hours."
"You will make it there in plenty of time. Now it is my families rule that we have to either turn or kill humans who find out the truth about us. Now I don't follow that rule because there were humans here tonight who know about me and our kind." He paused for a second. "Now I am working on getting that rule abolished, anyway. There are two rules to knowing of my kind, one: you can not tell anyone about us, if you do you will be killed, and two: well actually this is my rule, but let's say you wanted to be turned you have to be a vegetarian vampire as myself. Zac said waiting for their replies.
Jasmine thought carefully about the new information she was privy to. Telling someone was clearly out of the question. Who would believe her? As for becoming a vampire, well she didn't particularly want that either. But she wondered way Zac had chosen his 'vegetarian' lifestyle. Surely there was a way to drink human blood without hurting someone. Had he not thought of that? Or did he simply prefer it this way? She decided to voice her concerns. "Why do you do it? Or, I suppose why do you not do it would be a better way to put it. Drinking human blood, that is."
Kali shook her head as she spoke, "Who would we tell, Zac? No one would believe it..and as for being turned, I'll pass. I like being human, thank you."
"Its just a rule Kali, I don't control that rule the council does." Zac said lacing his fingers on the table. He sighed "Well Jasmine that goes back umm 100 years ago tomorrow. There was a woman named Isabelle, ah what a woman, eherm anyway. She was human and we fell in love, I pass for twenty and she was nineteen. We were to be wed until I met her father Darren Crepsley. A vicious human who was given the powers of the vampire slayer, who was relied on to exterminate the whole vampire race. He knew what I was from the moment he laid his eyes on me, god he was a vile man." He said pondering for a second.
"He forbid her and me to see each other, I came up with a plan to feed from rats, cows, horses, any animal until we could be together. I didn't see her for fifty years, and those fifty years drove her to take over for her father. As a slayer, my heart were it beating broke in the very instant that she tried to stab a wooden stake through my heart." He said putting his hand over his heart. "I think she would be proud of me. I haven't 'killed' a human since that night." He said looking down. "Um so Kali and Jasmine you can go just don't forget your gifts. And Kali good luck on your test today." Zac said with a weak smile as he stood up an went to the door. "Feel free to stop by whenever you want." He said as he went to his bedroom. |
Jasmine was surprised by Zac's story. She had expected some speech on how he had felt immoral drinking for humans, not that he had changed his habits for love. It was endearing, in a way, to hear him speak if the human women he had loved, though she knew it must be painful for him.
"Ah... Thank you, Zac. For everything." Jasmine said, sure he could still hear her from his room. The events of the evning seemed to be settling down on her. Zac had saved their lives. Was a thank you enough? "I guess I'll be going then." She looked at Kali. "Night, Kali." She said with a little wave and turned to leave the room. She made her way down the stairs and retrieved her own violin and the one Zac had given her as a gift. It was probably one of the best gifts anyone had ever given him. She hoped to be able to repay him someday. |
Kali waved slightly to Jasmine as she left. She debated whether or not to see if Zac was alright. She knew he was feeling down from remembering that moment of his past; she would be as well, but she was unsure if she could make him feel better. She didn't want to leave with him in this mood.
She cautiously stepped up to his door, holding her hand up to knock gently on the wood, but paused. Would it seem..odd if she did? She barely even knew the guy, yet she knew his greatest secret and loss. She stood there for a moment, before turning to head downstairs. |
"Thank you for the sentiment Kali." Zac said via telepathy. "Why do you tell people that?" He asked himself. "They have the right to know." He answered himself as he laid back on the bed. "But not that." He said. Zac sighed and closed his eyes.
