Hmm. I wonder if I could find them for an emulator. I would imagine so. I'll have to check those out. You know, at some point. :p

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 03:08 AM

Well my copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga worked on a Saturn emulator for the first few fights, the compatibility list said it would crash but it hadn't been tested in a while. I didn't test Panzer Dragoon 1 or 2 though. I'm sure you could find them, my computer is slightly too weak to emulate the Saturn at full speed though :( I'd use my actual system if the memory wasn't broken on it >>

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 10:45 AM

Off-topic (or back on-topic?) but I just learned to my great amusement that the final game mechanic in Trinity Universe, called the Conversion Shop, doesn't open until after you beat the main story. Somehow, this doesn't surprise me, at this point. :p

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 07:19 PM

Haha, so what's the conversion shop for then? Making OP attacks/weapons/whatnot?

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 07:23 PM

I won't know until I get there. :p

I'm about halfway through the game, so not too much longer.

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 07:31 PM

-derails the thread again-

Have you played any of the Ar Tonelico games?

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 07:34 PM

I played the first one, and I have the second one but I never got around to it.

I liked the first game a fair bit. How was the second?

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 07:43 PM

Buggy :( The story was a bit more "out there" but I enjoyed it very much. I really want to play it again for the other storyline, really I need to do that for the first one also... Not to mention the third one is out and I want it too.

Oh, I thought the second game had a better battle system than the first one too.

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 07:51 PM

Oh, I didn't even know there was a third game.

*goes to research*

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 07:53 PM

One of my friends on Facebook is playing it and I keep seeing trophy notifications >> I don't know much about it but I can't imagine not liking it, I even liked the second one despite having to play around the game bugs :p

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 07:57 PM

Just read some reviews. Don't think I'll be getting it. It sounds like they took nearly everything I liked about the first one and replaced it silly innuendo and a new battle system that involves "purging" your Reyvateil of her clothing in battle to increase her power. :|

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 08:18 PM

So in other words I'll probably like it a lot >> But unless I'm missing something, I wasn't aware clothing stopped Reyvateil magic. That's a really wierd sounding game mechanic.

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 08:27 PM

Make that: "replacing the occasional descent into innuendo of the first game with near-constant in-your-face innuendo" but, hey, if you like that sort of things, guess it isn't a negative. The review I read made a pretty big deal out of it, is all.

And I'm not sure "weird" is the word I would use for that mechanic. More like... juvenile.

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 08:31 PM

Playing a game full of innuendo might tire even me out, but I'm a big perv...so yea that's not a negative to me.

"Juvenile" does fit better. I mean, yea, sure I'd like to see the Reyvateils with less clothes. (Even though I would be closer to a Reyvateil than a protector when it comes to personality.) But having it happen during battle? That sounds like a method to get more people to buy the game without thinking of the implications >>

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 08:49 PM

Well, don't take my word for it, that's just the impression I got. It sounded like they gave up what little seriousness there was to the story for the chance at extra innuendo.

If you do end up playing it, let me know, though.

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 10:00 PM

It's on the as of yet unwritten list. It's getting to be a pretty long list, I think I should actually write it down. Remind me when I go back home and I'm on my own computer xD

Suzerain of Sheol 06-09-2011 10:18 PM

I was wondering how long you could keep that list going in your head...

Serra Britt 06-09-2011 11:09 PM

Oh I'm sure I'm going to forget some of them and just have to add them later :P It's a really long list...

Serra Britt 06-14-2011 11:23 PM

My roommate has been playing Grimgrimoire on the PS2 lately. Have you played any of the Vanillaware games?

Suzerain of Sheol 06-14-2011 11:27 PM

I don't think so. I remember checking that out when it first came out, but something else must have caught my interest more, because I never got around to buying it.

What else did they make?

Serra Britt 06-14-2011 11:33 PM

Odin's Sphere and Muramasa: The Demon Blade. Both excellent side scroller action games with absolutely gorgeous artwork as long as you ignore the characters with the "way too big boobs".

Suzerain of Sheol 06-14-2011 11:35 PM

Heard of Odin Sphere, wanted to play that, too. Never heard of Muramasa.

Serra Britt 06-14-2011 11:44 PM

Muramasa was on the Wii, but the gameplay style was very much like Odin Sphere's. I didn't play it long enough to see how much difference there was between the two characters, and now my Wii is gone so I can't right now. Odin Sphere had 5 characters and they all played differently, so even if they fought the same boss it was a completely different battle each time. It was sch a wonderful game...I wish I still had it T.T

Edit: So it sounds like you never played Dragon Force, it was a...very unique game.

Suzerain of Sheol 06-15-2011 12:52 AM

Alas, no, I believe that was slightly before more time. Or just a result of me not having a Sega.

Serra Britt 06-15-2011 01:00 AM

Unfortunately another of the many wonderful games lost because the Sega Saturn didn't survive long in the USA. There was even a sequel I would have loved to play. There were 8 factions and the idea was to unite them all, sort of like how the game Brigandine on the PS1 was. However, battles were fought with a general on each side (with some fancy magic abilities) and 10-100 foot soldiers. Come to think of it the battles remind me a lot of an Idea Factory game on the PSP, Generations of Chaos. Dragon Force came first but thinking on it Generations of Chaos plays a LOT like Dragon Force.

Suzerain of Sheol 06-15-2011 01:02 AM

I don't think I even got far enough in Generation of Chaos to see the battle system, the strategic aspect put me off so much. Not even because it was bad, but because I didn't feel like beating my head against the wall trying to figure it out.

Serra Britt 06-15-2011 01:13 AM

Generations of Chaos, unfortunately was pretty flawed :/ Just like in Dragon Force different troops had advantages against other troops but in Generations of Chaos you did not get to see your opponents troops until AFTER you chose yours, and if I remember, you couldn't retreat without retreating fully, so you had to either get lucky or lose a lot of troops just because of poor game mechanics. Now, the sequel to it, Aedis Eclipse, was far better made and had the same kind of battle system. At the very least I got a lot further in it. Neither of them quite lived up to Dragon Force though...which is why I spent so many hours upon hours on that game.
