"She had no idea," He snorted. "A god of death had no idea how two people could be switched in time. It was some sort of... fluke or lapse in time or something. Impossible to recreate."

"...But...but we have all the factors!" Mihael said. "We have you and Near...we need a way to get Nate back in the closet back in Near's time and Near in Chester's today!"

"And how do you propose we go back in time and tell me to be in the closet?" Nate pressed. "Not to mention we don't know if it would work."

"Then let's stick the two of you in the closet here." Mihael offered suddenly.

"...Wow," Nate mumbled. "Spending eight years full of geniuses makes everyone else sound really stupid."

"Oh come on!" Mihael frowned. "There's gotta be something, we can't lose!"

"If I go back, then L dies, and so do Mello and Matt," Nate sighed.

"You already changed so much already." Mihael frowned. "You warned L...wait...he's alive?"

Mihael blinked.

"He's alive, yes," Nate mumbled. "But they wouldn't be if I left."

"Wait, what do you mean?" Mihael blinked. "It wasn't enough to warn them in the end?"

Mihael unconsciously reached up to touch the left half of his face- remembering Mello's burn.

"No, it wasn't," Nate whispered. "The only one the warning saved was L."

"...What's happened?" Mihael asked- dropping his hand. "You have to bring us up to speed...we don't even know what happened to Mello."

"That is a story that is Mello's to tell," Nate informed as he slowly reached forward and touched Mihael's hand. "I... still can't believe that you came all this way for me."

"...Idiot." Mihael mumbled stepping closer to Nate. "I can't believe you didn't think..."

Mihael squeezed Nate's hand.

"You look... just like I remember you," Nate admitted, looking up at the blonde. "But... sader..."

"...I feel like I missing something." Mihael admitted.

"There's a lot more going on then I want you to know," Nate admitted, averting his eyes.

"I get it...I wasn't around." Mihael sighed. "I'm not stupid, Nate."

"No, I mean..." Nate sighed. "You remember about the Shinigami eyes, right...?"

"Huh...uhh...lets you see in live-action?" Mihael attempted.

"Your real name is Michael Kole," Nate informed - something that he should not have known.

When he glanced back at the blonde, his eyes had a red glow over them.

Mihael blinked and retreated a step before he gaped at Nate opening.

"...Wh-what did you say?" Mihael breathed.

"I have the eyes," Nate mumbled, as if sadly. "I made the deal... but its not the same deal like in the show. Its not half your life."

"...Then...what is it?" Mihael asked- seeming reluctant.

"Like a deal with death," Nate whispered. "We made a deal that... the kira case will be solved and Amane will not be charged... and after all that is said and done, she gets the remainder of my life span."

"...So you die when you finally finish this thing!?" Mihael burst in alarm.

"Shh!" Nate cried, looking over at the door to see if the others had heard. "Mihael... Mello and Matt don't know yet!"

"Why the hell not- why did you make a deal like that!?" Mihael demanded.

"I told them that it just took half my life, like in the plot of the show," Nate informed, not answering the second question.

"Why would you do it?" Mihael demanded. "What was the point?"

"To stop the case, of course," Nate informed, frowning. "Why else?"

"But you knew everyone's name and everything, how did it help?" Mihael asked.

"Rem is helping us locate the other owners of Light's notebooks," Nate informed. "That is how Mello got those marks."

"What?" Mihael blinked. "What...happened? ...You're following people without lifespans."

"No, Rem is finding them and giving us hints," Nate snorted. "She is helping, Mihael. How many times do I have to say that?"

"And then she kills you." Mihael replied flatly.

"Oh, so you were paying attention?" Nate huffed in annoyance.

"Maybe your life doesn't mean anything to you, but it does to a few of us!" Mihael replied sharply.

"Well it's already done, so I can't exactly take it back now!" Nate snapped back.

"Then I have to put my head together with Mail and Near and figure out how to reverse the whole damn thing!" Mihael replied. "Someone has to save you!"
