I hope you're remembering our new color option minimums there, babe. -salutes-

Arikana 01-11-2013 06:53 PM

Well, either way, as long as you don't die of recolours, Gally, I'll be happy. :3

*starts nomming on your snake tail* >w>

Lucid: 01-11-2013 07:23 PM

No less than 80 colors on my item, Galla! **salutes back**

Umaeril 01-11-2013 07:26 PM

I actually do not have many commons. I am going to go and look at them now and start up a collection. As for baseless avatars *wibble* I'll have to see if I can try that. o_O

Lucid: 01-11-2013 07:29 PM

I really recommend commons. I think they are worth the investment because they can go into so many avatars. The newer ones that are part of sets I feel are almost DI quality (and some appeal to me even more than the DIs) and all of them are just so flexible because they come in so many colors.

Gallagher 01-11-2013 07:40 PM

Yeah, there are a few really cheap basics that I would suggest (like headbands, panties/thongs, and some belts), but for the most part, investing in the higher end commons can really come in handy because you buy them once and all your colors are there.

Baseless with a skin is the easiest to start with. It's pretty much the same, but you can play with little details, like putting hair under your skin so the bangs don't show, or covering up the better part of a skirt so it only pokes out at the sides, like a butt cape.

As you get more and more commons to fill in gaps the DIs and event items leave behind, you can actually construct your own body, like I've done for my snake here. I couldn't use any base OR skin, because they would all give me arms, which I didn't want.

Lucid: 01-11-2013 07:58 PM

Oh wow. I noticed you didn't have any arms before, but I didn't really think too hard about it. I think it was the backgrounds making it feel crowded. Now that I look a lot closer at all the details, though, that's way cool how you put your avi together.

Gallagher 01-11-2013 08:17 PM

Yee bro, the longer you look at my jank, the cooler it gets.

Arikana 01-11-2013 08:36 PM

Yeah, going baseless and skinless is really fun. It's just a lot of work. I need more practice going baseless first before I can add the skinless aspect as well. >w>

Umaeril 01-12-2013 03:02 PM

How does one go baseless? o_O If someone could instruct me I would be very appreciative!

Headbands, wow!! Gotta look for those. And I am just now finding out about some very nice hairstyles in the salon. Hmmm...I must say it never occurred to me to put bangs behind a skin, what a great idea. But I am not very innovative...I know I do the same things over and over. So wow, breaking out here would be very nice.

Glad to see these discussions, thank you Lucid, Gallagher, Arikana and others for popping into the thread, it's quite an eye-opener.

Lucid: 01-12-2013 03:55 PM

In the avatar editor, under the male/female bases tabs, the very last options are blank. Click that and it will remove your base completely. C:

Gallagher 01-12-2013 05:25 PM

Yeah, once you get rid of that pesky base, you get a whole new world of possibilities. I rarely have hair layering without 1-3 parts of it under my skin.

... I've been playing with this stuff for, like, ever. My preferred skin color is only an option on a couple of our DIs, not our regular bases, so yeah.

I've really liked contests and challenges for breaking out of my norm, even if I don't actually wear a good portion of the avis that I make.

Vacation was fun. Not as much me time as I'd have liked, but I got to spend a lot of quality time with friends. I'm a third year math major, still with no real career plans in mind. I just like solving puzzles is all. xD

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I'd hate to be in the middle of an ethical issue like that. That would be tough. I've had an interest in the medical field since high school though. What kind of work do you do?

Kali_Namir 01-13-2013 02:33 AM

Ari...here's challenge 3...it's kind interesting, although it feels as though something is missing around the feet. I just can't figure out what to use.

Arikana 01-13-2013 03:13 PM

Yeah, I'm not a fan with how this one turned out. :( I feel it's a bit dissonant, imo. Not sure how to help improve it though. D:

Kali_Namir 01-13-2013 06:41 PM

Yeah I wish I could tweak it better. I like the actual avatar but it's the back of her that seems off...
