Damies: I totally would do that, yes. But I demand free scent samples to play around with for custom scent making...
>.> Lol Mekatra: I can't say much for Damies' soaps since I really haven't used them yet (I'm more of a liquid soap gal), but her lotions, lotion bars, and sugar scrubs are all great! I still haven't tried the foot soak tabs that I bought, but they smell good. XD |
I use bar soap all the time (I even regularly use a bar soap shampoo lol) so I may have to try it in the future, but I am probably going to snag a couple lotion bars. I get really dry in the winter and my hands get cracky, which isn't great for someone that washes their hands a mazillion times a day.
|
I was gonna buy a bar soap from Damies' shop on my last order, but she didn't have a scent I like. XD
I really do want to try it eventually though. It would cut back on plastic waste a lot for me. (Tbh, I never really was super concerned with living waste-free until I saw a buzzfeed video about it, but I would like to actually make an effort to cut back on a lot of the waste I have. Unfortunately, recycling isn't something super available to me currently, but it would definitely be great to waste less plastic and paper whenever possible.) |
It's really hard for us to live with less waste right now because our roommate insists on using paper plates and plastic forks. We don't use them when we cook for ourselves, but she will sometimes surprise us with dinner and use all disposable.
I prefer to buy my soaps and such from small artisan makers because I would rather support them than a huge corporation. Supporting small businesses is important to me. |
I have three scents of soap curing but they won't be ready until December at the earliest. ; 0;
One is super ugly too. xD |
But does it smell good? It's not like the color of the soap ends up on your skin, so if it smells good I feel that is more important than how pretty it is.

OH! ASSISTANT! Which one for a lotion?
"This fragrance is a glorious blend of sugar and blue spruce. It is clean, crisp and refreshing without resorting to the traditional 'pine' scent. The blue spruce adds a wondrous outdoors element. " My Note: Woodsy and sweet/fruity. OOOOORRRR "This fragrance is designed to mimic the feeling of peace and tranquility after a fresh snowfall. It is a very ozone-y fragrance, reminiscent of clean laundry or fresh cotton. The actual notes however are intriguing; this fragrance has a crisp heliotrope top with supporting notes of spring water, juniper berry, vetyver and sandalwood." My Note: Fruity, "soapy" but NOT "disinfectant" or "public restroom" soapy. OR PERHAPS "With a top note of Orange, followed by a middle note of Green Apple and winding down to peppermint and cloves, this scent is so fantastic that we decided to carry it all year instead of just at holiday time." My note: "Minty, kinda toothpaste-y? Not bad though." |

That could either be deliciously scented or terrible... Christmas is such a toss up for me. >.<
Oh well, you have plenty of other lovely scents in your shop. |
The site I get my scents from describes it as this:
This fragrance top notes are bright and crisp with notes of apple, lemon and ginger. Middle notes of fig, caramel, and cinnamon lead to more earthy base notes; leaving you with notes of coffee, twigs, and wet forest. I made it into bubble bars a few months ago and was like "whoa this smells like when we lit candles and a real christmas tree and shit when I was a kid!" I TRIED to make it green and red but it came out these colors: https://i.imgur.com/dEkgqell.jpg |

Clean laundry is probably why I thought "soapy" IN FACT I think when mom and I were discussing them (before I looked up the scent profiles) I specifically said "It smells like fruity laundry detergent"
|
That soap has a bit of a sinister grin and I kinda like it. :O
Those scents can be a bit overpowering to me though. I prefer simpler notes, just one or two. When they try to make things too complex they seem to all get muddled up in my nose. |
Or that soap is wearing the bottom part of a bikini swimsuit..

The other two soaps I have curing are Pumpkin Brown Sugar scented and the one I made the other day that is Cranberry Fig :3
|
It is fall, so pumpkins are a requirement lol
|
by the time the pumpkin soap is ready it will be mint season xD
|
According to my PSL obsessed friend any time between October 1st and January 1st is acceptable for pumpkin.
|
Sounds like expert knowledge! And since I can't do peppermint I have to have a winter scent that is either not pepperminty or super light on it.
|
Hmmm scents that make me think of winter and the holidays... caramel, amber, balsam, spruce, spiced oranges, cider, juniper, cedar... Baking scents too like chocolates, sugar cookies, vanilla, cinnamon, baked apples.
|
I really want to get an amber scent oil! o Ao
And I have a few baking scents but the ones with cinnamon tend to morph to a hotter cinnamon sadly. |
Maybe a nutmeg and clove scent instead? That's still very christmas baking and are usually associated with cinnamon.
I ordered some things from you <3 |
I agree on the pumpkin stance. I mean, pumpkin pie is for christmas too...

I have a serious problem that I keep forgetting I can access Trisphee now -Nikki
|
Were you not able to access it before?
|
Nah I was banned, I used to be Nicole here back in 2011
So the thought process that I'm not allowed on trisphee keeps taking over. Its only after Toho took over that he allowed me to come back, though we can't access my main account ;o; lost so much shit... and money in the end over it. |
Aww. That's sad! But pretty nice that you got to come back!
|
Ah, I see. That's unfortunate. :(

LOTION! With scent one! Also my first time adding color! 8D And yay thanks Mekatra! |
Eee! My perfume samples from Deep Midnight Perfumes on etsy arrived today and I am impressed before I even smell them! The ship owner included a hand-written note of thanks, plus, in addition to the free bonus sample inluded a "new customer" sample AND a little Christmas stocking charm. And it was all neatly packaged in a little organza bag and everything!
Now, time to sniff scents! |

The place I usually order my shampoo bars from do that, include a little sample lump in each package to try to entice you intro trying something new. It's lovely.
OOh, that lotion looks pretty. I don't like the sticky feeling lotion usually leaves. :/ |
I wish I could afford to do cute packaging and I wish I had samples to send buyers. ; 0;
Curse being a newbie seller! |
Don't worry, you'll get there. To be fair the samples that the shampoo bar sends me are just like... thumbnail sized lumps wrapped in tissue paper with a little sticker saying which scent they are. They're not fancy lol.
|
You'll get there eventually.
On another note, good news! Of the seven samples, I only am not a fan of one of them right away! The rest, I'll have to actually test by wearing (later, when my hands don't smell like all perfumes together from opening all the vials), but one of them is very likely to be a keeper based on scent already. |
I am concerned the lotion I just made is under emulsified.... which means it may separate. I will need to adjust my recipe if it does so. This is my first time having done the recipe by weight instead of volume and I may have goofed on the emulsifying ingredient amounts. /whines
@Mekatra: If the lotion turns out okay (I'll know by tomorrow) I could send ya a sample of it cuz my lotion is usually really good about no sticky residue as long as you don't use a crapton. xD @Kaderin: Hooray for good smells! |
By no means feel obligated to send samples, dear. I can purchase some and if I am not a huge fan of it I can give it to someone for Christmas. :D
|
butbut I LIKE TO GIVE PEOPLE STUFF! (ask Kaderin she has been a victim of my giving for the last year-ish)
|
I don't mind, I just don't want you to feel like you have to. >.<
