(Also, what's the biggie about never saying "ain't"? And don't be pouring buckets of paint over me.)

Southern Lingo
Ain't: Are not
Ya'll: You all
Youins: The Group of you over there
Yankee: Northerner

For the States, it's in Cali, Oregon, Washington, huge in Alaska, and I'm not sure if it reaches Hawaii.

Espy 05-12-2011 01:54 AM

Yeah, I know some southern lingo. What irks me is how schools around here teach you to not say ain't. Kids look at me funny when I do XD

Cronislee 05-12-2011 01:55 AM

Ring O' Fire

Does'nt go near Hawaii. Its where the Techtonic plates meet.

Blaine 05-12-2011 02:02 AM

No one ever taught me not to say ain't No point in trying to quell a local colloquialism.
And Cronis, that's hardly all of them.
Why show them the one's they know?
Ya'll and ain't.
Everyone knows that.

Iunno= I don't know.
Whatcha: What are you
Doncha: Don't you

But then I have my own personal sayings that only I say or if everyone else does, I don't even hear 'em.

Cronislee 05-12-2011 02:05 AM

'Cus if we started a whole list we'd be here til the dogs came home :P.

Plus, we'd need a skype chat. Be like Roseta Stone. "Rosetta Stone: Redneck"

Azrael 05-12-2011 02:06 AM

Those are just slang/slurs to me, the "iunno" and "dontcha" things. I mean I'm in southern Nevada but we have more that 'valley girl' accent here, not the Southern.

I use all of those too...along with some stray slang from other languages. Probably from books.

Blaine 05-12-2011 02:08 AM

AHmigah, Rosetta would be hilarious. "To properly form these words, relax your mouth as much as you can and try to move it as little as you can"

I have a sporadic accent. My family is from Illinois, so sometimes I get one of those accents. I watch hockey like a mofo, sosometimes, I get a Minnesota like accent.

But, man, hilariousss

Espy 05-12-2011 02:11 AM

What's bad about my talking is that I get this not-really-Chinese-but-not-really-anything-else accent when I'm nervous. And I'm nervous when I meet people, especially of my age. So guess what their first impression is. >.>

I've been letting "y'all" come into my daily speech...so more people have been looking at me funny, haha. But then that's because my bestie moved to Texas a bit back.

Cronislee 05-12-2011 02:15 AM

"Heyaman wh'chu 'doin?": Hello, friend, what are you doing over there?

"A'right naw man, we'gunna get this figured out righ'hya.": Alright, friend, this is what we should do.

"whoda hayle you think you is, you sombitch?": How dare you, your son of a bitch.

"Git'yer hands offa her righnya!": Get your filthy hands off of my lady friend this instant.

Azrael 05-12-2011 02:17 AM

XD Lady friend.

Blaine 05-12-2011 02:18 AM

Cronis: Pretty much, ahhaa!

"Ahohe'en care." =I don't even care.

"Swhah-ee Ah tole ya"= It's why I told you.

Man, that's funny. xD
Thas hilarious right there, I dun care who ya are, thas funny right there.

Cronislee 05-12-2011 02:18 AM

Well, night all. Good luck with those Cicada's.
Woooowee Larry da Cable Guy *highfives*

We need more Southern blood on this site. Too many Westerners.

Azrael 05-12-2011 02:20 AM

XD I don't know if it's cause I've been studying Japanese, but I've been saying "right" or "you know?" a lot at the end of a sentence lately. Cause 'ne' is the rough equivalent of that. Or I just plain say "ne?"

Espy 05-12-2011 02:20 AM

-coulda gotten that without the translation, thanks Cronis XD-

I forgot who it was in my old school who used to yell "HAAAAAAAYYYYYYLE NOOOO." We looked at him funneh XD But now I do the same sometimes.
