I love eggs I eat a lot of them besides baking with them I love eating them in soups, stews, salads by themselves or with anything I just love eggs. XD

littl3chocobo 04-20-2016 08:42 PM

they are easy to love XD

Billy James 04-20-2016 08:43 PM

Plus when cooking with them you can add food coloring. lol

I've made purple scrambled eggs before and they were yummy. XD

littl3chocobo 04-20-2016 08:48 PM

hahaha, i suppose this is true too XD yummy blue egg salad?

Billy James 04-20-2016 08:52 PM

I've done a lot of cooking eggs with food coloring, I'd have to try making a blue egg salad sandwich. lol

But nothing beats green eggs and ham. lol

littl3chocobo 04-20-2016 08:55 PM

like the book? XD hahaha

Billy James 04-20-2016 09:09 PM

I've made green eggs and ham before it takes a lot of green food coloring to make everything green. XD

It tastes good though.

littl3chocobo 04-20-2016 09:24 PM

wouldn't you be able to taste the dye though?

Fulkth 04-20-2016 09:52 PM

I haven't had green eggs and ham in forever. lol. I first had it when my 5 year old cousin was begging her mom to make some for her. XD

I should make some for my husband just to creep him out.

Billy James 04-20-2016 10:48 PM

Most food dyes are tasteless they do stain skin and clothing though so you caution if cooking with it. lol

most, but not all... Red food dye, to me, tends to taste bitter, and leave a bitter aftertaste in foods that have it.

Billy James 04-21-2016 02:54 AM

I use very little red dye in anything I tend to cook, but I have noticed that for whatever reason yes red dyes tend to taste bitter which is why I use very little of it.

Den 04-21-2016 02:57 AM

Mom claims that she can't tell the difference, but I can, so I try to avoid eating stuff with red dye in it.

Means I don't get red velvet cake very often as a result...

Billy James 04-21-2016 03:01 AM

I love red velvet cake but strawberry short cake is my favorite.

I also found when making cakes, duck eggs seem to work better.

SparX 04-21-2016 11:20 AM

The real way to make red velvet cake though has something to do with a chemical reaction with something in the chocolate used and another ingredient
If I remember right....
but processed ones add food dye to make it more dramatic.

ZenKitty 04-21-2016 12:33 PM

I don't really care for food dyes. Too many chemicals in them. I also can taste the chemicals.

I've often wondered how something sweet would turn out with beet juice. That really turns things red. ;-)

Akai 04-21-2016 12:40 PM

Mmm sweet pickled beets. We made a huge batch of that last year and with some of the leftover juice we pickled some eggs in it. They just tasted like eggs and beets. lol

I love eggs, but I need them to be fully cooked or I wont touch them. If the yolk is still even a little gummy I just..can't. I usually cook them over hard with a dash of lemon pepper. Or scrambled with just a bit of sea salt. mmmm ♥

Beets make most things good. *think of natural brine sourbeets*

if I had a source for duck eggs, I'd get 'em regularly. I love duck eggs. Especially the preserved kind. Which I haven't had in a couple years, since I moved away from where I could get 'em regularly... :/

Fulkth 04-21-2016 08:51 PM

I have had duck eggs before. I think they taste similar to chicken eggs except for the part where the shell is a bit harder to crack than a chicken egg.

littl3chocobo 04-21-2016 09:57 PM

i've had quail an now where i live chicken XD

Den 04-21-2016 10:01 PM

Quail eggs are fun. I like buying 'em fresh, and I also like the canned, hard boiled ones... My mom thinks they're gross, but I love skewering 'em and sprinkling 'em with a little bit of sea salt.

littl3chocobo 04-21-2016 10:10 PM

we get them fresh and i either boil them and eat them or boil them and then roast them shelled XD

That sounds really good. And yeah, when I got 'em fresh, I'd boil 'em, 'cause that was easier to make for on-the-go snacking...

I think tomorrow, I'll go to Omaha and get some quail eggs.

littl3chocobo 04-21-2016 10:32 PM

it totally is and they only take like a minute to roast XD i do reccomend oiling the pan/rack you use so they don't stick and pull apart, haha

Fulkth 04-21-2016 11:43 PM

I have never had fresh quail eggs, but I have had canned quail eggs. They are okay, if a bit on the mushy side.

I'm thinking a mini muffin tin will work nicely. lol

littl3chocobo 04-22-2016 01:10 AM

ooooh, oven roasting XD i thought a grill or a pan, hahaha

ZenKitty 04-22-2016 10:30 AM

All of these exotic eggs. Where do you find them?

SparX 04-22-2016 11:26 AM

You can usually find them (supposedly) at places like trader joes, but where I live it's probably easier to just hit up a local farmer or check the farming papers and see if anyone has any advertised.

Fulkth 04-22-2016 03:20 PM

For some reason, brown eggs have always creeped me out. I hear they are better for you, but I just prefer white eggs.

littl3chocobo 04-22-2016 03:36 PM

there is 0 difference, the color only indicates the color of the chicken who laid it XD

sparx is right, a farmer if you cannot find any at the store(though here there are three stores that sell them, hahaha)

Hmm... Haven't seen them at the Trader Joes or Whole Foods, but I'll look closer the next time I'm there.

I could ask people at the farmer's market, which starts back up in a few weeks.
Thanks!

littl3chocobo 04-23-2016 02:41 AM

this asie, how is everyone? anyone have any good eggy treats today?

Billy James 04-23-2016 03:25 AM

Not really so, I've had white chickens that laid brown eggs and vice versa then again I've had the chickens too that laid bluish green eggs.

littl3chocobo 04-23-2016 04:33 AM

-shrugs- both the internet an my local farmers agree and my grandmother's chickens have never laid anything but brown

the blueish ones concern me though. that is not a chicken color from what i know >x>;;;;

Billy James 04-23-2016 04:36 AM

Yep it's a chicken egg, they come from a special breed of chicken called ameraucana chickens. They are a breed of the more fancy kind.

ameraucana chickens are a really pretty chicken and so are the eggs. :D

littl3chocobo 04-23-2016 04:43 AM

ah, ok then XD i guess i learned something new?

Billy James 04-23-2016 04:51 AM

I've raised chickens for years, I've had chickens that lay blue eggs, brown eggs and white eggs and I've had all kinds of birds.

Chickens of many breeds and colors, several breeds of ducks, and four kinds of geese, Plus all kinds of turkeys I've had pigeons too can't eat the eggs but they are lovely to have. I've had pet quail and I've eaten quail eggs.

ZenKitty 04-23-2016 12:11 PM

There's an organic farmer that sells egg cartons at the Farmer's Market with a combination of brown, green, blue and speckled eggs. It's always fun to buy those.
