Well, to me it looks like they tried too hard to surpass the original and in the end achieved nothing. Similar to the new Rocky Horror. Has a few perks, a few nice moments - but nowhere near the charme of what I've known before.

I think this might be an unpopular opinion...
I felt the Jennifer Hudson is "okay" for the role of Grizabella... But I feel like her voice is a little too "powerhouse" to do that character justice. Jennifer Hudson's Grizabella sounds like she would have fought her way back into the Jellicle tribe a long time ago. She sounds too strong and not very vulnerable like the previous Grizabellas Elaine Page or Nicole S. (I can't spell her name lol) Im not a fan of the CGI either. It doesn't look godawful to me, but they could have made it much better if they;d at least put some "cat like" make up on these actors! It would have been cheaper and it would have looked more visually pleasing. I was watching the making of The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and something that really stood out to me was when they said, "When doing a sequel or a reboot, you shouldn't think about 'how can I make this better', you should think, 'what did people like about the first one? and how can I incorporate that into the reboot?" I feel like Cats tried too hard to be "better" than it's stage version, and by doing so, lost the charm that made people love Cats to begin with! |
Why isn't Grizabella being played by an actually mature actress? Maybe someone like Ileana Douglass?
