he didn't like the hug and remained stiff but he was happy enough not to have to travel alone now, at least for a little bit. "ree, i want to leave this place, let me stay with you until i can find a charter to take me across the sea, i can pay you and it will not take long"

Poggio 02-13-2012 02:35 PM

Ree shook his head. "And let my investment die. I was promised a boone I have not collected on, and I also promised until I get you home, I would protect you." He pulled back just a little to smile into those grey eyes. "If this is not your home then I will be there when you find a new one. Lets go." He let go rising from the bed.

littl3chocobo 02-13-2012 02:43 PM

he shivered at the oath and thought back to his books. grand adventures always started out with words like that and though he understood the difference between reality and fiction he could not suppress the thrill. "i have silver, enough to cross the sea and then some, i need to grab my rings"

Poggio 02-13-2012 02:47 PM

That only earned a laugh from the thief that was well prepared. "... I have spoons and other objects I managed to grab along the way. As well as some funds from two days ago. However it is best to try and find a ship were we can work out a contract as you did with James. Silver only last so long." If all else failed, Ree had no qualms about working of their passage. The thrill the young noble had was contagious, he had never been outside of the city before. He watched the young noble grab his bag as well as a small chest from the dresser. Once Kais was ready, he grabbed the other buy his hand, guiding him through the shadowed curtains past the guards to yet another door into the castle. The taste of freedom was a shorter walk this time. It led them to an out door cellar of an abandoned noble house.

littl3chocobo 02-13-2012 03:18 PM

he didn't let go of the hand even after they came out of the blackened tunnel and escaped from the abandoned manor and into the night. if anything he tightened his grip, he didn't want to be separated this time, not when he was so close to freedom

Poggio 02-13-2012 03:24 PM

Ree did not slow his mad scurry until they were close to his own shack. He finally slowed to a stop, realizing it might have been the last time he would see the abode. He could hear the kettles whistle even on the street. "I need to talk with mother alone, if you go upstairs you will find my bed empty, you can rest there for tonight. We will leave at dawn."

littl3chocobo 02-13-2012 03:47 PM

he shook his head, "it isn't that simple, i will expect to spend the entire day looking for a safe and sturdy ship, it will be a couple days before we'd leave, this is not like an adventure story, planning and care is needed"

Poggio 02-13-2012 05:38 PM

He let out a sigh that he didn't know he was holding. And then he laughed. "I have never read an adventure novel. In fact, my boon was going to be a request for you to teach me, but now I must rethink that." He adjusted his bag over his shoulder. "You can go upstairs and sleep. I must get ready to do chores, heat the water and so forth."

littl3chocobo 02-13-2012 06:20 PM

he let the other go this time and said nothing. he could not fathom not having any knowledge of the world outside of his ears. he was not sure how he felt about that. silently he tried to recall the way to the narrow cot in the uppermost room of the house

Poggio 02-13-2012 07:17 PM

By the time he returned he was sweaty and tired and realized he missed the large fluffy bed. It felt like clouds. He saw the other lying on his bed and remembered his offer from before. He grabbed his pillow curling up on the floor with the little ones. He had forgotten to tell the Royal about James. He yawned as the rest of the house was waking up. The furnace was already ready for them.

littl3chocobo 02-13-2012 08:00 PM

he was nearly asleep when he felt the other taking a pillow from the bed. opening his eyes he slid to the edge. "ree... i want to teach you how to read"

Poggio 02-13-2012 10:23 PM

His eyes flew open and he found himself hanging off the edge of the bed close to the other. "You will what?" He whispered in disbelief.

littl3chocobo 02-13-2012 10:28 PM

he was shocked as a hopeful dark face nearly pressed into his. blinking stupidly he repeated himself feeling unsure, "i....want to teach you to read..."

Poggio 02-13-2012 11:13 PM

Ree moved until his nose was pressed against the other. His eyes were wide with excitement. "Not just words, but maps and other things?"

littl3chocobo 02-13-2012 11:19 PM

he nodded slightly still staring into rounded red eyes "if i can read it i will teach you as well, a voyage by water will take weeks even months depending on the port we head for, there will be time enough for it"

Poggio 02-13-2012 11:47 PM

He blinked dreamily like a doe eyed moon calf. Curling his fingers around Kais face he excitedly pulled him in for a quick kiss. "Thank you. you have more magic then I ever will."

littl3chocobo 02-13-2012 11:58 PM

he didn't have the ability to answer, his mind was still reeling from soft lips and the strong fingers capturing his jaw. it took several more seconds to find his words, "....you are...welcome"

Poggio 02-14-2012 12:17 AM

His mind was still on the excitement of the trip, only then did it dawn on him how big it truly was to be. He knocked his head into the others forehead with a grin and pulled his head back to avoid yawning in the others face. Ree crawled into his bed and absentmindedly pulled the other into his arms like a long lost teddy bear. The goofy grin never left his face.

littl3chocobo 02-14-2012 12:25 AM

he was not given time to regain his senses as he felt a pain in his skull from the other boy's head before quickly being pulled into a hug. he struggled but the other held him still and quickly he gave up and accepted it. he'd let the boy have his joy but only this one time

Poggio 02-14-2012 01:21 AM

It felt like a heavy weight was on his chest. Rees body naturally sprawled out, the other was a log, a giant log that was while, making him warm also constructed his breathing. Red eyes blinked away the haze of sleep only to stare at an alabaster neckline. Ree grunted to himself, he should have slept on the floor. Turning his head he realized most of the little ones were already up and about. Slowly he inched his way off the edge of the bed until he could roll onto the ground. Ree crawled on the floor reaching the door to give himself leverage. He escaped to the lower level of the shack where his mother was baking bread.

littl3chocobo 02-14-2012 01:32 AM

he woke to the sun in his eyes and pulling free from the rough bedding followed his nose towards the smell of fire-toasted bread and cheese

Poggio 02-14-2012 11:15 AM

The elderly woman twisted her head listening to the steps of Kais as he entered. She turned towards him greeting him with a crescent smile. “You are not one of my children.” She hobbled over to the boy and lightly grazed her fingers over his skin. They were fine and smooth lacking the usual calluses that came with work and grit from the street. Her eyes narrowed. “You are a welcome here, guest of my son , but who are you?”

“You are a welcome here, guest of my son , but who are you?”

littl3chocobo 02-14-2012 11:36 AM

"oh! i am kais, he is letting me stay just long enough to find a ship, i was here a few days ago as well. how are you this morning ma'am?" he felt uncomfortable under the milky gaze

Poggio 02-14-2012 11:54 AM

She continued to smile pulling Kais into a seat. “I think I recall. The one that lives in a world that is stifling and dull and lonely.” She gestured to her ears. “And who is going to teach Ree how to read.” He abandoned his hand and went to wash hers going back to making her bread. Her all knowing smile never faltered “Yet you are going to find a ship.” She stopped smiling then. “I have had nearly 35 years to trust my hearing, Kais and while I am greatful for what you did for James, I would like to know what you intend to do with Ree.”

littl3chocobo 02-14-2012 12:01 PM

he blanched as he realized she had either heard everything he had said or more likely ree had told her everything. he had to swallow the unpleasant feeling in his gut before answering her. "he was going to be my guard, though in light of what i have just heard from you i think he would not be a very trust-worthy companion. if you do not mind i will take my things and leave now, forgive me for having taken advantage of your hospitality past when i was welcome." with a slight bow he quickly hurried back up to the room for his things

Poggio 02-14-2012 12:09 PM

That made her laugh. She waited for him by the door "Boy calm down, did you not just hear me? or can I assume that all nobles are raised to be impetuous untrustworthy buggers?" She moved from the door frame letting Kais have the option to leave. "You may leave if you wish but you are leaving behind more then just a guard." Shaking her head she walked back to the kitchen. Perhaps it would be better if the noble never saw her boy again.

littl3chocobo 02-14-2012 12:17 PM

he did not look at her when he came back down with his things but with her at the door it was inevitable that there would be a confrontation of some sort. when she began talking he stopped and waited but her words were hypocritical and without worth to him. the thief had deceived him to parrot information back to his 'mother' for reasons unknown to him and such actions coupled with his natural need to steal meant that having him along would almost certainly leave him ransomed or dead with his rings gone. he ignored the pain in his gut and when she moved away he quietly escaped

Poggio 02-14-2012 12:28 PM

Ree had fenced most of the silver, and bought new clothes for himself and Kais, but still had an abundance of it left over. On his way home he saw Kais quietly walking out of the front door. He followed behind him.

littl3chocobo 02-14-2012 12:36 PM

he didn't know how long he had been wandering lost before he found the harbor and had to sit down. already this day that seemed so full of promise last night was turning into a debacle. with a sigh he wrapped his arms around his two bags and rested his face in the folds. he was no longer sure he could do this

Poggio 02-14-2012 09:15 PM

After following Kais all day, Ree was glad when he finally stopped. He was hungry and tired and not sure what upset the boy in the first place. He crept up behind Kais and silently sat beside him. He let his feet fall over the harbors edge as a wave crashed into it. “Did you find a ship?”

littl3chocobo 02-14-2012 09:52 PM

he flinched and quickly looked over "oh! oh go away ree, i don't want your sort around, i am not stupid enough to keep a snitch around, do you take your pay from my father or from someone else? good job with your 'mother' but i am not going to fall for it anymore i got enough of that sort of sneaky backstabbing at home"

Poggio 02-14-2012 09:56 PM

Ree blinked and laughed. "Your father would rather have my head if he knew about my friends escape. Though I must admit those spoons fetched a fare prince." He handed the bag of silver to the other." He stopped talking when his mother was mentioned. "I do not know what sneaky back stabbing you are talking about."

littl3chocobo 02-14-2012 10:11 PM

he made a face, "of course you do not, now please go away, i am not going to pick my charter only to have you rat me out. there is no point in going if i am going to be stopped before i make it to deep waters." he looked away sadly, "if you hurry i will pay you double what you are getting now"

Poggio 02-14-2012 10:28 PM

Ree rose from his seat as bit anger at the other. "Double of nothing is still nothing, I do not need to know how to read to know that." He pulled out the clothes he bought for the other and tossed them on to Kais head. "These are for you. ... Kais. Why are you leaving me? Do not tell me in noble words, tell me in a way I can understand."

littl3chocobo 02-14-2012 10:34 PM

looking up at the other he saw anger confusion and something else, "why did you tell that woman everything i have said? she has privy to information she could not have heard on her own, who are you two working for and what purpose?"

Poggio 02-14-2012 10:49 PM

HRee didn't understand how telling his mother about the escape from the castle and how Kais came to sleep in his bed was private. He ran his head through his hair. "She is my mother.” He recalled the brief moment Kais talked about his own birth mother. “she has never betrayed me before. I trust her. I did not think I would see you again so I did not want to have my secrets to myself. You act as if trusting some one is a crime.” He stopped talking unable to defend his actions. Not when he felt like they were not a crime. He turned his back on the royal. He should not have gotten his hopes up the other was probably just using him as an escape. Ree turned back towards Kais grabbing him by the cuff of his shirt?. “What did you do?”

littl3chocobo 02-14-2012 10:53 PM

he barked a laugh at that, "what did i do? why thief, i have done nothing, and i shall continue to do nothing until your eyes are off of me. you are a fool to spy without re-compensation and a worse one to assume any information you pick up won't be used"

Poggio 02-14-2012 11:06 PM

"Do not mock me whore. My home has more honor then what your title is worth." A terrible rock lodged its self into Ree's gut. While he was here his home could have been invaded by soldiers. He let go of Kais and punched him. How could he let himself be lulled into false security by a noble. The boon, the promise of adventure, reading, it was all a trap.

littl3chocobo 02-14-2012 11:23 PM

the words angered him more than the punch, holding his throbbing jaw he grabbed the boys wrist with his other hand and kicking up threw him backwards into the water
