I caught Chimchar today! :D

Yokuutsu 10-21-2018 02:43 AM

Incense helps period. Each pokemon has a chance of shiny and on community day, beldum will have a MUCH higher chance of shiny.

I evolved a Chimchar and Piplup? to their second stages :D

Still need more Hoenn and grass pokemon lol

Quiet Man Cometh 10-23-2018 04:41 AM

I'm mostly wondering because incense will actually work where I am, though no other Pokemon are in the area.

Coda 10-23-2018 09:20 AM

Incense works wherever you are, but its effectiveness depends on moving around. If you're not moving, incense spawns approximately one Pokemon every five minutes. If you're traveling at a brisk walk, a lot more show up.

Yokuutsu 10-24-2018 12:01 AM

I think they need to change that. I'm gonna use an incense because I'm not moving. If I'm outside, I can't see my screen and I can't be cupping it and moving it at the same time because I will hurt myself lol

Which I was never big on incense to begin with since it doesn't do much imo

Quiet Man Cometh 10-24-2018 01:47 AM

Moving around is not a problem as I'm on a farm and just wrap my phone up in the top of my yoga pants if I have no pocket. It's just that there are no Pokemon here otherwise. Would the incense attracted Pokemon have different odds of showing up shiny or no? I've heard that they can be rarer types if the area is otherwise barren.

Coda 10-24-2018 09:38 AM

I'm not sure. I was under the impression that incense used the local spawning pool, so it SHOULD produce the shinies that you would get during events, et cetera. Whether or not it generates more of the rarer stuff, I couldn't say.

Quiet Man Cometh 10-24-2018 09:38 PM

I saw a little blurb some time ago by a hiker stating that if you went to where the game map was completely empty and then used an incense, you had greater odds of attracting Pokemon from the rarer end of the scale. Not sure how much it works, but when I've used incense here I've seen evolved pokemon, a magmar which I've never seen otherwise in the area, and my niece caught a vulpix which are also not common.

I'm started to time my rewards as well now, in case I'm home for a day or something. I can maintain a catching streak with research reward catches for example.

Yokuutsu 10-24-2018 11:37 PM

I hate spiritomb....108 berries....then catch 108 pokemon D:

Quiet Man Cometh 10-25-2018 12:47 AM

...Well I knew about the berries.

Yokuutsu 10-25-2018 06:41 PM

Well, now you know more...the catch 108 pokemon gives you spirtomb

There is also spin 8 pokestops you've never been to before. Luckily, in a city 15 mins away, since last I played pokemon....someone apparently went psycho in Ingress and suggested a ton of stuff XD

Quiet Man Cometh 11-06-2018 09:06 PM

Well actually read the news the other day, and it explains all the cubones and surprising number of ponyta. No shinies though. Darn.

Awen Moonshine 11-09-2018 07:46 PM

I finally got my Celebi today!!! *happydances*

Quiet Man Cometh 11-09-2018 11:43 PM

I still need an extra friend. I was mean an axed a couple people that haven't been on in some time. I did get this funny bug-ghost thing with my regular research. Still working away on those berries though.

RedRum 11-10-2018 08:23 PM

I'm still on 7/8 of Mew with that damn excellent curveball throw.
I also need to use 50 berries.

3/8 in Celebi in which I'm just working on evolving my Gloom into a Belossom with the sunstone

1/3 in Spirittomb still working on using 108 berries. I'm at 35.

Please don't tell me that's a special research task, I'll be pretty screwed. Traveling isn't easy for me.

Claptrap 11-12-2018 07:46 PM

I used to play Pokemon Go semi-regularly when I was at uni, it was about a 30 minute walk back to my flat so each way I'd be able to do a decent amount of catching and hatching. Now though I live basically across the road from my work so I've somewhat gotten out of the habit. I haven't done any community days or anything and I don't even have any shinies. I definitely need to make more of an effort to get off my bum and get out there. I have actually joined a discord server for it with people that I know from work, but I'm a bit too shy to get started in there considering I'm a filthy casual in comparison to them haha!

Quiet Man Cometh 11-16-2018 12:44 AM

Friend task done! But I'm not very far into Celebi's stuff anyway, and I'm not sure how much I care. More annoyed that my new friend has a Shinx and I'm jealous!

Not much new lately. Catching things, picking up stuff given I'm in the city, blah blah and such. Apparently there's a POGO discord for a local group here. "Local" in the area can cover a fair bit of geographical space though.

RedRum 11-19-2018 12:45 AM

Ugh this mofo excellent curveball is pissing me off.
I just fail at curveballs, I can only even get the Pokemon in about half the time.

Quiet Man Cometh 11-19-2018 07:30 AM

I usually get "excellent" by fluke.

This event tho...so many eevees.

RedRum 11-19-2018 08:22 PM

Same, I only get all three types of throws (nice, great, excellent) by fluke including non-curveballs.
So that's why there have been so many Eevee around.

Quiet Man Cometh 11-20-2018 06:21 AM

It's the "Let's Go! Pikachu!/Eevee! Nintendo switch thing. One of my daily research things (which requires the excellent throw) has the "Let's Go!" tag on it.

I see that Evolved Electrike thing in raids and I want it because those things are annoyingly hard to find, but I haven't been able to stop for long enough to actually do one.

I evolved a new Vaporeon the other day, who happens to have the same CP as my first Vaporeon that I've been powering up for over a year now. Not sure how I feel about that. Opus is special, but his combat stuff isn't actually that good. This new guy might take over for practical reasons.

Coda might be getting to me. I caught a Beldum (I keep going to say "Bedlam") the other day, and called it "Tiny Tin."

Tiva 11-20-2018 11:25 AM

Yeah my newer pokemon are a lot better than the ones i got a while back. which makes me sad but…. it isn't like the games where you train with one and improve them all of the time.

Quiet Man Cometh 11-21-2018 05:44 AM

Yeah, that's annoying.

Also, the pogods have decreed I shall have more vaporeons. I got another that's better than my other two, and those two are still pretty up there in my collection. New guy is 2500 cp area.

So I still need to evolve an evolved grass type pokemon, get one more raid battle, use 3 more berries, and hatch one more egg. Then it's some next stage stuff.

...any my Arcanine got booted from the gym for only 10 coins. Poo.

RedRum 11-22-2018 08:56 PM

I concur that gaining a new understanding of how to evaluate a Pokemon's stats does cause a feeling of let down towards one's older Pokemon who have sentimental value.

I have a Radicate that I value because it's the first Pokemon I ever caught but now that I've started using Poke Genie to see IVs, he's been revealed as horrible for battle. I still have him. I won't transfer him despite but it's still a disappointment.

I'm also evolving a new Umbreon and Espeon because my originals also have low IVs and shit was it difficult finding a female Eevee because I want my Espeon female.
I have to wait to evolve it though because I believe evolving an Espeon is a research task in my future.
Question: Would it count if I did it using the nickname cheat?

Coda 11-23-2018 01:39 AM

It counts for the "evolve an Espeon during the day" one but not for the "get two candy" one, so you might as well just do it the normal way.

RedRum 11-23-2018 03:31 AM

1. How do I evolve an Espeon during the day?
2. What "get two candies" one?

Brief off-topic (sorry but the market isn't active), would someone be willing to trade me 50 runes for the guise of demise in the Backalley Deals shop? I'd rather not donate but will pay whatever in other Trisphee currency.

Awen Moonshine 11-23-2018 03:55 AM

One of the later task involves walking 10k with Eevee as your buddy and then Evolving it during the day (with it still as your buddy) to get your Espeon.

You will also need to do the same again but evolve at night for an Umbreon for another of the research tasks.

Tiva 11-23-2018 06:57 PM

Those tasks! Were soooo hard!!!

Coda 11-23-2018 11:12 PM

They weren't very hard, just... very tedious.

Illusion 11-23-2018 11:38 PM

Been online trying to find the elusive Ekans. T_T It's the only Pokemon I need to finish my dex.

So it requires you to evolve the same Eevee you walked 10k with into Espeon?

Ekans isn't elusive here. I get them quite often.

No, it doesn't require that. You CAN evolve another Eevee into Espeon and have it count, but if you're going to walk 10k with the Eevee you might as well evolve that one, since walking 10k with an Eevee is the way to get an Espeon in the first place.

Oh. I got it now.

Quiet Man Cometh 12-10-2018 03:38 AM

Get an excellent curveball...I got an excellent curveball last week. You suck Professor!

Yup still struggling with that one as well and I too got one BEFORE the task.

BTW are Varlanna and Oanamori anyone here?
These people sent me friend requests but I've only ever given my friend code here and to an RL friend via FB private message.

RedRum 12-29-2018 08:54 PM

Update:
I remembered that I'd also given my FC at Virtuadopts back when I needed friends for special research. I've since removed it and the friend requests are gone.

Meanwhile, I'm still wasting Pokeballs on this gorram excellent curveball, it's now the only task separating me from Mew.
On the bright side, I'm getting a bit better, I'm getting a fair amount of nices and greats and I've discovered that Snowver is one of the best Pokemon to throw curveballs at.

Awen Moonshine 12-29-2018 10:18 PM

Oooh! Good luck on the curveballs RedRum <3

I'm currently stuck trying to get to 5 more raids and find 2 more Exeggcutes just to try and get a Meltan T_T

RedRum 12-31-2018 04:17 AM

Thanx.
Ugh, not a fan of the raid missions either. Just finished 2 for the first or second stage of Melton. Good to know there's more. :P

Awen Moonshine 12-31-2018 08:57 AM

Yeah... I'm halfway through the raids part of this section and I hate it so much T_T I don't go out very much because of my anxiety, so quests like this are super hard for me :(

RedRum 01-01-2019 05:38 PM

I don't go out much either because I have no life. Mostly just to walk the dogs.
For this reason, I'm pretty much screwed on 8 Pokestops you've never used before for the Spiritomb research.
