We' re still waiting for everyone to be ready to watch the new Grinch movie together, but hopefully by tomorrow night I can say I watched Shazam!

Unicorn Store. Mostly a miss for me. The characters from her place of work made the least sense. I did like Virgil.

☾ Game Night. i decided to watch it because i saw Rachel McAdams was in it, and i don't regret it. the humour was on point, the plot tight and twisty. i enjoyed the hell out of it.

The Nun.

I liked it. Been a while since I saw something that I'd call just a good horror movie.

I watched The DaVinci Code and loved it so much I got the book and am reading it now.

I wasn't a fan of the film as much but I read the book first. I did like Angels and Demons but I haven't read the book for that one, and my brother and I were in Rome at the time so it was neat to compare things.

i watched Kubrick's 1962 Lolita yesterday, because i'm supposed to compare the novel and the film in an essay for lit class.

1. i liked it better than the book. in the book, humbert's mocking gaze on absolutely everyone pissed me off because he's the shittiest piece of shit of them all. humbert was an annoying narrator in general, with his constant self-pity. in the movie, though, the mocking gaze isn't his, it's kind of the omniscient camera's. and most of the movie was the better for it, because it made everything comedy. even if it's not the feel-good kind of comedy. even if it's unkind comedy.

2. i was hoping that mockery would extend to humbert's stupid feelings for Lolita, but nope, they had to go melodramatise the so-called romance, and play melodramatic music when Lolita escaped him, when she refused him... that was some VERY disappointing directing. now i'm sitting here wondering whether the mocking gaze, too, wasn't the camera's throughout but switched to humbert at that point. tchah.

I passed a book at the bookstore yesterday titled "The Real Lolita." I assume it's about Nabokov's book.

Watched Howard Lovecraft and the Kingdom of Madness.

It was a kids movie, and not as good as I hoped. Probably because it was a kid's movie. Darn. It started out with Lovecraftian name-dropping everywhere and ended like a crummy D&D fight.

Before that, Annabelle; Creation.

...I'm not sure how I feel about Annabelle.

Souvenir (2016). Did not like the story. Or the characters. Or anything.

Quiet Man Cometh 04-21-2019 03:56 AM

The Limehouse Golem.

Mostly had it on so that I could hint to people to please quit being so loud when they walked through the house, unsuccessfully though so I never heard much. But, it did look neat. ;)

Guardians of the Galaxy. It was on TV. :/ Got stuck watching it. :] Forgot how funny it was. Fell asleep at the end. Had Chinese food. >.>

McQueen. It didn't really seem to cover anything new and felt like a waste of time. It even felt like a repeat of the McQueen and I documentary from a few years back. I would have preferred to learn more about his creative process than hear people comment that what he did was genius in different ways.
