Fin seemed a little disappointed. After after a few more failed attempts, Raven called it a day and herded them both back to the boat.
Frei got onto the boat almost robotically as she took her seat and stared out over the water.
Fin didn't say anything on the way back. He tried to brighten the kids faces by giving them some of the candy they had bought.
Frei let Raven put the lollipop in her hand but didn't even look at it.
A little of Raven's smile fell as he went back to the helm and drove the boat back to the resort.
By the time they got back to the resort, Frei had a fever.
Fin was freaking out a little, but Raven remained calm as he took Frei back to her room while keeping Fin under control.
Frei didn't seem to be aware of Raven helping her to her room. Once inside she climbed into bed.
Raven tucked her in before letting her rest and shoeing Fin away from Frei's door, convincing him she would be fine.
Later that day after doing some gardening, Raven did a little snooping. He got a hold of Wolfe's schedule for the rest of the day through his network. Then he happened to show up during Wolfe's dinner break. |
Wolfe didn't seem too surprised, perhaps Raven's sneaking wasn't so sneaky as he thought. He glanced at Raven, wondering what was so important.
Raven didn't talk about anything important or the trip he had taken with Frei and Fin earlier that day. But after awhile the conversation shifted. Taking advantage of a pause, Raven asked, "Do you consider yourself to be... Frei's 'parent?'"
Wolfe coughed ever so slightly on his food.
Raven waited for Wolfe's reply.
Wolfe swallowed his food and stared at Raven, "No," he stated blankly.
Raven nodded a little, "Her guardian," he replied, remembering what Wolfe had told him before. "... The circumstances are... unique, but she still trusts and looks up to you."
Wolfe shrugged a little, not getting the point of this conversation.
