He smiled, rubbing his long nose against hers. "Couldn't be anything else fer you," he said before returning her kiss.
"Weel, if it isna wee Kelly Johnson come oot inta tha sunshine fer once," chuckled father Erickson as he passed the two.
Kelly grinned at him. "Don't get used to it," he said.
Erickson laughed and tossed the pair a peppermint each.
Kelly eyed the candy fondly for a second before closing his hand over it so that it disappeared into his unseen shadows. There, it reappeared before Lillian as a sort of present for her.
From within the shadows Lillian thanked him and popped the candy into her mouth.
Lily ate her mint, "He's a sweet old man," she said. |
Kelly nodded. "Always was good to me..."
"The world could do with a few more of his kind," said Lily.
"Not too many, I hope," said Kelly. "That'd be an awful lot of... goodness goin' around."
"Well it would balance all the badness," she said, "I saw more of that while you were gone than anything else..."
He tilted his head at her. "Oh?"
Lily chewed her lip and nodded, "People are...they're a lot more cruel when you're all alone," she said.
"Ain't that the truth..." Kelly raised an eyebrow. "Who's been pickin' on you?"
"While you were gone it was one of the directors I used to work for when I was still doing acting," said Lily.
"What happened?" Kelly pressed. Though his tone and expression didn't change, the ends of his hair had begun to writhe...
"Well he thought I must be lonely and....he tried to...'keep me company'," said Lily, hoping that that would say enough.
