Sure lol ^^ the focus of the essay was more on the cultural meanings around cockfighting than the actual violence of the fights anyway. It was a pretty complex essay though.

@Zach The layering system is amazing, it makes the avatar system here my favourite. I'm able to make a range of avis even if I don't have a wide range of items. It's so much creative fun.

It's an awesome feature . I just wish more avatar sites would make more things to do then just posts though. It seems all the branch off sites of gaia aren't doing them anymore :/

It does but I feel it's pretty worth it.

Zach: I imagine that would take quite a bit of resources if you're talking like zOMG in-depth. Ernya tried with Lands (their version of Gaia's Towns) but it ended up they'd bitten off more than they could chew.
There are a few with pet systems. There's KofK (the economy there is in bad shape rn though) and then there's Dappervolk, which should launch beta sometime.

I just think sites need to do more then just regular forums . Even stuff like gsia fishing would be nice. Gaia is doing so much right but what they do wrong out weights me wanting to be there. I mean for their events they even have flags games .

@Zach: I understand. There are plenty of times I want to spend time on sites but I don't feel at all chatty. And I do get tired of lurking lol. Times like that, I think it'd be nice if there was other stuff to do onsite, but then the avi sites that are newly developing do have other features, like an integrated RPG system, or pets. Then there are sites like these, which you (well, I) come to because I'm attached. So there's an element of like, fond nostalgia, which means I wouldn't want very major changes or major new features either.

@Panda: I gifted my extras to newbies and a few I traded in the exchange for User Appreciation items ;_; sowwy. I'm sure you'll find someone to trade with though, there was a good bit of participation in that event.

I was about to say yes, but I didn't get many extras from the pet event and the ones I did were for friends.

Sternum, solia is heading towards a more gaming direction, initially they even wanted the forums to no longer grant gold and be game only but the users freaked out xDD

What kind of changes will that do to the economy, do you think?

They went back and now forums will continue to give gold xDD
the thing is, the site needs activity.
Not many donate so there aren't many things to buy (they don't release commons regularly like here) and the high ticket stuff is just traded between the richest xD
not to mention that to trade/buy the dollar currency paypal has to approve you for some reason so not everyone can buy/trade it.

Honestly, the scratch system is just weird because you're spending money without any guarantee of getting the item you want; wouldn't they get donations if they just made it a normal donate-and-get-what-you-want instead of going to all this trouble?
