Excite's translator does fairly well but the site is in Japanese in the first place so you have to know enough of the language to navigate it.
As for Babelfish... I haven't tried it in a while, but I actually suspect it would do better than Google. |

Makes perfect sense if you consider that the historical people to settle the land called themselves the Angles. It's not a huge stretch to corrupt "Angle-Land" to "England" over time.
