What is a prayer square?! I've never heard of that!
|
From what I understand they're like a worry rock. It's a small square of fabric with a cross on it to hold while you pray. This one is a good bit bigger though. I was looking through ravelry one day, and saw a pattern that made me think of a friend so I had to make it. <3 This is the pattern and a picture. Obviously that one isn't mine. The one I doing is Royal blue. ^_^
Oh! And here's the new flower! |
Awww! Look! Those are some good colors.
|
Thanks, Faux. Right now, I'm working on a hat to sell. I'm making items so I can have more than just one thing to sell before I open shop. *nod*
|
I feel that vibe. I need more things to sell as well!
|
I'm back to working on an old stitch kit I've had for some years, that I keep doing off and on. It's this one here (picture is not my work). I'm about 2/3 done the bottom half. Doing backstitching on the scroll right now. Yippee.
|
Oooh. That's really nifty, Quiet! I wouldn't mind doing one like that. <3
|
I really like it. It was a pricey kit, and I even hung onto it for a year to two while I tried to find a scroll frame to work it with so I wouldn't mangle the fabric. I didn't want to make hoop dents or bunch the fabric up while I was working on it.
|
Hoop dents bother me... I didn't know that there were other frames available other than the round ones. Or at least working frames. Or is that what you're referring to?
My mom was doing some spring cleaning today and found some kits she's gonna bring my way. I'm excited to see what she has for me. <3 |
Not that anyone really visits in here anymore, but I've made more progress on the crib bumper turned blanket! I've definitely learned that it's easier to sew in my tails as I go along instead of trying to sew multiple in after I've stitched everything together. *nod*
|
Crib bumper-turned-blanket? I'm very interested in how a crib bumper turned into a blanket. XD
It's really nice though, lovely pattern <3 |
I started doing the granny squares and stitching them together to make a bumper so my daughter would quit poking her arms and legs between the slats in her crib while she was sleeping. Well, she stopped getting her limbs stuck, so I decided to keep going and make it into a blanket for her. <3
And thank you. ^u^ |
Awwh. x3 That sounds pretty sweet. haha.
You're really good at it. x3 Anything else you have in mind to make or just focused on that atm? :3 |
I have so many works in progress it's ridiculous, lol.
But since we're trying to cut back on data usage, I've been working on the blanket the most. I've got about 18, maybe 27, more squares to crochet and stitch together and it will be done! This will take you to my mostly completed stuff. I keep saying I'm going to open an etsy, but I can never seem to get anything finished up (and kept away from the kids) to put up for sale online. Some of the pics aren't the greatest quality though... >.>' And I usually make whatever catches my attention while I'm on Ravelry (online crochet/knit pattern site). |
Pshh. xD Don't be startin everything and leaving them undone. D'8
Well at least you have that prioritized. xD Soo that means it's almost done? O: You excited? XD I see o~o; What's an etsy? O: Haha. XD do the kids take it and keep it? (my blankey D8<) Ah. XD no wonder. If I was on a site like that and crochet/knit, I'd be making like one of everything. P: |
LOL I'm really bad about not finishing things I start... I can't tell you how many hats, blankets, scarves, slippers, etc. have piled up over the years in my yarn bin. ^.^'
It does and I am! It's 9 squares by 5 (maybe 6) squares. I've got the first 3 rows of 9 done. This is actually a really big deal for me. I'm over half way done with it, and it looks like (if I keep working on it like I have been this last week or so) I'll be done with it by the end of next weekend. <3 I'm beyond excited! Etsy is a nifty shopping site. They sell a little bit of everything, but it's all supposed to be user made. They're really great, and I've heard a lot of good things about it, both from the selling and buying ends. And basically, yeah. The orange and green flower is a teether, so that was meant for the baby. But the blue/purple one, and some of my granny squares have been sacrificed to my munchkins. They've been chewed on, slobbered on, and kicked around. Ravelry is where I got the granny square pattern, and the flower. The dice bags were something I came up with myself. |
Wow. XD Hey you can always start a new fashion trend and try them on regardless. XD
That's so awesome. 8'D That's good, as it's a good motivator to get you finished with it. XD Then you can be all proud of it and call it blankey mc blanket. C'B Ah. o-o So it's like a crafter's amazon. Sounds pretty good, though not something I'd use, seeing as I don't really make anything. x'D Wow. XD They're like 'these lovely threads amuse us, bring us more BI' idk. XD Dice bags sounds and looks so cute though. XD <3 |
Most of them are only a few inches long, and not much of anything... I think the furthest I got with my son's blanket was maybe 8 inches into it, then I moved and it mistakenly got put into storage... D: I've gotta see if I can find that pattern again. It was really awesome.
And you know it will prolly be dubbed blankey mcblanket, lol. Basically. I've come across some really cute jewelry and plushes that I want to get. Patterns too. <3 And yes! My daughter LOVES to get into my yarn stash and tangle it all up. She's more than happy to chew on the actual yarn, instead of the nifty-ness I've made her, lol. I think I'll probably wind up making more like what's in my album to sell first. It takes maybe an hour or so to whip one up, so they're super simple, and it really doesn't take a lot of yarn either. |
Ah. :c That would probably be me, though. XD If any art thing takes more then one or two days I get bored and start up something else. x-x
I tried cross stitching once in school. I actually went all the way through with it and made a pillow. XD So yay me. xD I'm so creative with names, I know. Plushies on there ought to be interesting. :3 Probably some famous stuff from shows or games that don't get officially made. XD Jewlery, too. x: Must be good for cosplay stuff as well. XD xD It always seems like they want what's not for them rather then the stuff you DO make for them huh Ah. x3 Must be nice to make stuff and sell it. Or interesting. XD My sister makes these really extravegant bows/headbands and sells them. o: Thought that was interesting, but still I couldn't really see myself doing stuff like that. XD |
I'm the same way. I've started a cross stitch sampler for my family, and I've finished the inner dividers, the outline of the border, and the 2 of the pieces for the corner squares. I was working on it while I was hanging out with my sister-in-law a few weeks ago... but when spring break was over, and she had to go back to work, I didn't have anyone to really talk to and gossip with while I was working on it, and lost interest... That, and the pictures I took of the graph/pattern were blurrier than I realized, so I need the book again. DX I draw too, and if it takes me more than a day, I'll put it up, saying I'll come back to it, but I hardly ever do... D:
<3 I came across some MPL plushes (I think the shop is nerdyknitter?), and she had the patterns posted for free in her blog. I crocheted and stuffed all the pieces for Twilight Sparkle, but I haven't sewn her together yet. I'm stuck on her mane and tail. ._. I can't seem to create the right texture for it. And I don't feel right putting her together if I don't have everything made... And it does. My kids are the ones who would rather play with the box than the toy that comes inside it. (Prime example being the toy box. It's an old cardboard box, maybe a foot long and a foot tall, maybe eight or nine inches wide, and they'll dump the toys out of it and play in the box itself.) I haven't actually sold anything yet. Although I've had several people tell me that I make stuff to sell online. So I've been trying, I just haven't made any real progress yet. Although I've got just about everything set up. Etsy, paypal, wordpress... even a facebook page. I just haven't had anything to put up yet. DX |
A cross stich sampler? What's that? O: Aw t-t that sucks. I sorry. You can stitch and talk to me? 8'D
What happened to the book? o-o Did it also get lost in the move? xD I know right. I feel like I just say 'I'll come back to it' to give myself closure. BI /gets shot XD Ah. x3 Do you have any MLP Plushies yourself? O: Awh. :c Well can you think of what would do good and buy some or look it up online or look up other twilight sparkle plushies online and try to see what they used? O: Idk. I know right. XD I'm the same way. Must be hard for you if you had to make a Frankenstein doll. XD Yesss it's a fort. 8D Or a kingdom. (and whatever came inside was what was left over from the kingdom's last owner, yes. BI) Awh. Dx Why not try starting with small stuff first I guess? x3 |
The one I'm (kinda) working on is a 3x3 grid with different pictures in the squares. Think of a tic-tac-toe board. I'll take a pic of it tomorrow and post it so you can see it.
thanks for offering, but it's hard to stitch and type. I've tried, lol. Technology sucks me in, and it's almost like I have tunnel vision or something. I become completely unaware of my surroundings. :C It's my sister-in-law's book. So instead of wasting paper, I took pictures of the things I wanted to cross stitch... Unfortunately I was a little inebriated at the time so what I thought were satisfactory pictures turned out to not be, lol. The pattern was actually on the wrapper of the skein of yarn I'd bought. I came across the unfinished blanket and yarn while I was going through the stuff that was in storage that's now in the basement, I just didn't set it aside. So now I've gotta go find it again. ~n~ Exactly. Nope. I've only just recently started watching MPL:FIM within the last year or so. I wanted to see what all the hype was about. It's adorable and all, but I can't really see what the big deal is. *shrugs* However, I have a friend that's a "brony?", and her faves are Twilight and Rarity, so I decided to attempt to make her a plushie. I know how I want her mane to look like, it's just sooooooo tedious to sit there and make it. x.x It's not crochet, it's more like braiding or possibly weaving... and you have to be exact with your lengths, because you can't cut it once its made. My daughter (11 months old) like to pull everything out and put the box on her head. Her brother (almost 4 years old) likes to dump everything out and try to sit in it. She fits, he doesn't, and the poor thing is almost dead, haha. And that's really what I need to do. I think after I finish this blanket, I'll make some dice bags of various sizes and put them up. (Now here's to hoping I actually go through with it) |
Ah. xD That sounds like an interesting one. Where are you drawing the inspiration for the pictures from? Or are they just random pictures you think up? XD
xD Ahh. Yeah I get that way too. It's like 'I'm sposed to be doing something but 'oh hey look at that' XD Lmao. XD That didn't work out well huh. That sucks though. :c Maybe you can buy your own sometime? x3 Idk On the wrapper? XD wow. Well but that sounds like treasure hunting. 8'D haha. XD Ah. o.o' I still havn't watched it, probably never will no matter the hype. XP lmao. Woww. o-o' So I guess it's a complicated type of stuff. One that you really need to devote your time to. XD -spawls out on the floor- nope, not happening. XD Awh. They could have a little system going. He dumps it out, hands her the box, she puts the box on her head as he sits on the stuff, then go to the next one. XD Hopefull for you that doesn't happen. Psh. BI I can nag you til you do it. xD haha. |
They're pre-designed items that remind me of my family. My hub's is a computer with a mouse. My son wanted a teddy bear. Mine is a gameboy. My daughter's is a heart with a crown (one of her nicknames is Princess).
It's like I'll be writing, even talking sometimes, and I'll see something out of the corner of my eye, and completely lose focus. Almost like Doug the dog from Disney's Up (SQUIRREL!). I'm not too worried about it, I know that I can find similar patterns online. Plus my sister-in-law lives like 10 minutes away, so if push came to shove, I could like walk over there or something. Yup. Nifty thing about buying yarn, most of the time (on Red Heart brand at least) they include a free pattern for purchasing their yarn. I figured I could get away with it because of the kids. I mean it's cute and all, but I wouldn't be all *fangirl squee* over it. It's not really that complicated, it's just time consuming. And that's how I've been feeling about it. That and I'm missing the really dark purple for the single stripe of it that's in her mane and tail. (I just realized I've been misspelling mane. *facepalm* Looks like I'm about to go do some editing, XD) That's kinda how it goes. He'll dump it, she pushes the toys around, after I fuss at him for trying to sit in it, she'll pick it up and put it on her head. Seems like I might need it, lol. I'm such a procrastinator, lol. I've been on here for a year, and still haven't finished trying to set up my quest thread. ^.^' |
Here's the Sampler I'm making.
|
Awh. x3 Sounds like a nice whole family blanket then haha.
I've never seen that. xD But if something interesting enough catches my attention while I'm doing something un-interesting , then yeah my attention can shift pretty easily. xD Ah. xD Well yeah it doens't seem like it's all that bad. Only problem is again, motivation. XD But first and foremost you need to order what things you wanna do in what order. XD That's pretty awesome. Although probably a market thing that makes people wanna buy hundreds of yarn that just end up sitting around. XD Though one CAN just look at all the tags at the store instead. x: Haha. XD I couldn't get away with it. But yeah I know of a few things that are amassing such a big public interest that I'm just like 'meh' on. XD (although nothings coming to mind at the moment besides games like call of duty or skyrim or whatnot) Ah. :c yeah I hate when things are time consuming and you just don't wanna do it and just... /sprawls out on floor again all lazily. XD psh. xD I think you only used the word 'mane' once so you should be good. XD I actually didn't notice you mispelling it. X: Sounds like about average . XD When you're busy with one kid the other kids over there doing something. Dx you havn't?! do it do it do it. D< /coaches |
Awh cross stichies yay. XD Looks pretty nice. Nice computer and bear. o_o' you got skills. XD
|
Yups. :)
THIS is what I'm talking about, lol. And again you are correct. I've gotta get in touch with my SIL and see what she's doing this weekend. Maybe she and I can get together and have a squawk-fest as le hubs calls it. XD I'm pretty sure it is. Probably to encourage people to buy their brand of yarn. And usually they advertise what pattern is on the back of the wrapper, so it makes it relatively easy to pick which skein to buy (if you that's how you're buying at least). I'm guilty of Call of Duty. My hubs was seriously hooked on it, and he spent most of his off time playing, and it got to where I was feeling left out, so I "picked up the sticks". I really enjoy it now though. At first, it freaked me out, lol. I had such paranoia issues with the whole "someone's out to get you thing". It gave me some pretty weird dreams. Especially when I started playing Zombies. XD I went back and fixed 'em. o~o I used to be a grammar nazi back in high school, but now only blatant errors bother me... and it's usually when I make them. Which tends to be late at night when I'm kinda sleep deprived, lol. And yup again, lol. Although they do have their tag-team moments... ._. Evil little gremlins... XD I know, I know, I know! I just want it to look really pretty, and I want as much AU as I can for posting it... so when I make the posts, I want to just copy and paste from my word processor so I can be like *BAM!* *~prettifuls~*. Plain text quests are just not for me, and I don't want to spend a shitton of time in thread editing... That and I've been lazy. Before she headed off to Japan, Faux was on me about it, too. And in regards to your second message: Thanks. ^///^ |
Ah. xD
Lmao. A squawk fest? XD that's an...interesting term... Sounds like a fun little get-together though haha. x3 Ah. yeah. XD That's good though. I guess it DOES make you choose their brand over others since really, what can you do to yarn to make it different o.o' Ah. XD wow. I can imagine. ;~; I sorry. I never played it though but I does not seem like my type of game. x: I don't really see why people are all nuts over it. I CAN see why they're all nuts over Grand Theft Auto. A game to vent,or do unlawful things without consequences, etc. XP Still kinda stupid... What's Zombies? o.o' Haha. XD I'm... a half-grammer nazi I guess. I only make errors when I don't know how to spell something, which sadly comes often. XD Well for more extravegant words that for SOME reason I want to use. XP lmao. Haha. xD I know right. SPEAKING OF YARN. If/once they're old enough, if you have a stair thing in the hallway, or something you can attach yarn to across the hall, you can do like a little laser-tag thing with red yarn for the kids O: where they gotta try to walk thru the yarn without touching it. XD Lmao. XD You don't have to make it 'extravegant'. You can just go 'plain' with items you want and list them, then whenever you're feeling up to it, pretty it up. :3 Tis what I did. Oh. XD Well. Idk. OH I can try to make a layout I guess whenever I find free time, and all you gotta do is put in the items? XP haha. x3 |
Yup. Hens squawking, lol. It really is fun though. :D
Different companies make different types of yarn. Some are made of cotton, others wool, or acrylic (which is what I use the most), not to mention different thickness, quality, etc. (Sorry yarn nerd moment.) There are actually people on here that spin their own yarn, or at least they used to be on here.. I haven't seen them in a while... :/ The appeal for me initially was hunting my husband's character down and shooting him, head shots were an extra bonus, especially if I was mad at him. Haha. Which I play GTA V, too. Also courtesy of le hubs. And it is pretty fun to beat the snot out of someone, rob a convenience store, then run like hell from the cops. <3 Stupid, yes, but still fun. XD Zombies is pretty cool. Creepy, but cool. That is the stage I frequent the most now (Nuketown on Black Ops II), though I got my start on Der Riese on Black Ops. I used to be picked on about being a human dictionary/thesaurus/spell check. Spelling has always been a friend of mine. <3 And HFS that is an AWESOME idea! I probably never would have thought of that! I know I could do that, but, but, but... Pretties! ono lol And you don't have to do that, ^_^' |
Haha it does sound fun to it all works out. XD
Ah. xD Well at least now I know. I guess it does make sense that yarn comes in all that different kinds of things. Aw. :c How do you spin yarn? o.o Lmao. XD That does sound like fun. Well at least you like them and it works for you x3 I guess it's something to do huh. XD Just not my kinda game though. x3 more of an rpg player. XD I see o.o' Seems different Awh. :c xD Do it do it. I might do it sometime later in life but no where to do it now . owo xD psh. Well I don't mind. x3 I mean it's something I can do whenever Trisphees a bit dead and there's nothing to do. So if you ever change your mind just let me know. x3 |
*sagely nod*
I have no clue how to spin yarn, but I saw people talking about it in here at one point. It was probably late February/early March. I do know I'd love to get my hands on some to see how it differs from machine spun acrylic yarn. What kind of games do you play, like actual titles? I've been hooked on Katamari: Forever here lately. The soundtrack is totally catchy. Zombies is easy once you figure out the rhythm to it. It's when you're with people who haven't figured it out that's it's really chaotic, haha. ^-^ It wasn't like malicious picking, but my friends would always come to me to spell check their homework and ish. It wasn't so bad, lol. I liked it. It gave me something to alleviate my boredom. XD I totally am. *nod nod* You could always tape yarn from one side of the room to the other and do the whole theif vs. lasers thing. O.O I appreciate the offer, thank you. But I'm working on it again! *yay for semi-motivation!* |
Pft. XD Sagely nod to hens squawking. XD Quite an interesting thing we've got going here. XD
Ah o-o' Hmm. I'm sure google knows or something. XD You can just look up 'What's the difference between hand - spun and machine-spun yarn' or something x: Katamari is awesome. 8'D I don't have any Katamari games but I HAVE played a demo of a Katamari game where you roll a ball around and make everything stick to it. XD It does have a rather catchy tune. And If you get me on games I might go on forever. XD But as for titles, I do mostly RPG games. Right now I'm on 'Romancing Saga', you get to play as 8 different characters. o: Some of my favorite titles include the 'Star Ocean' Series, 'Grandia' Series, 'Final Fantasy' series (7-10/2, not any of the lastest ones x.x) uh. Disgaea series, and others. :3 Lmao. xD I know right. Like chickens running around crazy or something. x: Though it might be fun to watch. -evil smile- XD Haha. XD Yeah I guess that's a way of looking at it. :3 Good to have a fun hobby. or such. xD Yeah o-o I'm not that flexible sadly and my backs kinda eh. XD So. who knows how well I'd do. Whoo . XD /cited |
It is, haha. XD
I guess what I mean is I want to feel the difference for myself. XD I know how machine spun acrylic feels, and how it holds up to wear and tear after you've finished a project. I'm curious about how natural fibers feel, like lambs wool or angora (rabit) wool, or even yarn hand spun from cotton. I was bit on 10-2. It was the first Final Fantasy game I ever played. I loved the graphics, and the dress spheres were highly appealing to me. (I've always loved being able to customize the way my characters look.) I've got Star Ocean: The Last Hope, but I haven't actually picked it up to play it. My hubs is a huge PS3 gamer. Have you ever played Dragon Age? ouo It really is. I know it's hilarious watching my hubs and our roommate play. When it's just the two of them, they can make it to round 25+ with no major mishaps, but if you throw in 2 random players with them, our roommate gets to shrieking when the anybody goes down and their zombies start coming after him. I love it! Tis why I've picked up Crochet and Knitting... and cross stitch... and about 50 bajillion other things... >.> <.< >.>' You never know until you try! lol Yush, *cited* ^____^ |
x3
Ahh. Yeah. You need to feel the yarn, and you need to be the yarn. BI I... don't even know if I've even felt yarn. XD like. in it's... yarn form. XD 10-2 was rather lovely <3 I loved the whole job/dressphere changing things too 8'D took a while to write down a list of what to do to get the best dressphere, too, the mascot. was not dissapointed it's a lovely sphere <3 did you get any of the ultimate ones? o.o I liked yuna's Floral Fallal. <3 I really want Star ocean the last hope. ;~; but I don't even have a ps3 yet. x.x I've played Star ocean til the end of time to NO end though. XD Seriously it's like always fun to me. I've heard of it but never played it o-o What's that like again? lmao. XD Duude if zombies are around your sposed to not make a noise. XD sounds like a good time though x3. Psh. you do more then that? o_O you'd think that would eat up all your free time XD I guess. XD Yayy. XD Whenever it gets done you should link me. -nodnod- |
Lol. *mystical echo* Beee the yaaarrrrnnnnn */echo*
Seriously? O.o Baby yarns are soooo soft! And so is Lion Brand's Homespun, although it is a pain in the butt to work with (at least it was for me). It's been sooooo long since I played it... :/ I don't really remember much about the plot, or the spheres... I do remember that the last place I was, was on Tidus' island. And in doing a quick bit of research, I remember that I really liked the theif sphere, but it was more for aesthetics than functionality. x/ I was one of *those* back then. I watched my hubs play it, and he enjoyed it enough to hang on to it and not trade it in, so that's saying something. I played Phantasy Star for the ps2 before we got our ps3 (I know they're not related, but I always put the two together in my head oddly enough). It bothered me that it didn't have a pause menu, lol. But I really enjoyed playing it. I kinda wanna break out my PS2 now. xD Then I guess it's a good thing they're digital and not real, haha. It is. I still prefer multiplayer though. >u<' Yups, haha. I read, sketch, write, play video games, I've been teaching myself how to play the piano and guitar, I cook, and I'm wanting to learn embroidery, on top of Crocheting, Cross Stitching, and Knitting. Oh, and I dabble in html from time to time. >.<' And it does for the most part, but I have my die hard addictions. *coughavsitescough* And I shall. *nod nod* |
yeah, Squirrel moment here too. I've been on a sticker and letter writing kick.
I'm still sitting on that mostly finished cross stitch I put up a while ago, still looking for that metallic black thread. I bought some silver in the event I can't find it but I am insisting on black! Well, one more half-finished project to the pile isn't that big of a deal. I'm moving soon, and deciding just what of my craft piles to bring with me has been occupying my attention. I'm tempted to order a wool spindle and some fiber and have it sent to where I'm moving too, so it's one less thing to pack. Still no idea what I'll do with the wool once I spin it, but I'm sure I'll come up with something, if I don't pick up something else in the meantime. |
@Quiet: I remember it! I think you're doing right by waiting to find that metallic black. *nod nod* I hope you're able to find it!
Yay for moving? o.o' I've a few times, and I know how big of a pain in the patootey it can be. So how exactly does the yarn you spin differ from the machine spun? And what materials do you use? |
The biggest difference I think is that machine spun yarn is a whole lot more even. Hand spun yarn can, depending on the skill of the spinner, be lumpy, of uneven texture, tension, width, etc. I'm not all that good at it, so my yarn tends to be shabby looking.
I like doing stuff with my hands so I decided to just get a drop spindle and manually spin it rather than use a wheel which my sister wants to find. You can apparently also make a drop spindle with a wooden dowel, a hook on one end to hold the yarn end, and something heavy to make it spin. It's pretty basic in theory. I'll probably talk to my sister about what sort of fiber to use. There's machine dyed, hand dyed, which have different colour patterns, and of course, many different types of wool to buy. Basically, you stretch the wool out a bit, spin it into a cord, and then soak it in water to shrink it and tighten the yarn, wrapping it around something to dry so that it doesn't end up in a tangled lump. At least, this is what my sister tells me. I've only spun, not done the soaking part. I'll see if I can find her page of stuff she's done. |
Gotcha.
So how does a drop spindle work? Sorry if I ask too many questions. I'm curious, and I'd rather talk to someone about it than go blundering through the intarwebz looking around. That's what really interests me. I'm curious about the different textures of the different fibers. All I've really worked with has been machine spun acrylic. Which makes for nice accessories, and blankets and such, but it can be itchy until you've washed it a few times, and if you're not careful, you can melt it in the dryer. ._. Do you enjoy it? I'd really appreciate seeing her work. *nod nod* |
