We have wooded areas near our home, so we have a herd of deer in the area.
The soil could use improvement, too. will probably have to add compost. |
Well, there are deer in some parts of town but for the most part, I am in a pretty big suburb of a big city (though it is shrinking... but that is off point) so there aren't too many places for deer. There is a nice spot near my school; I go to a community college and next to it is a satellite campus of the University of Michigan, and that is pretty well wooded, in fact you wouldn't know there was a college campus there driving by, and it is right by Henry Ford's estate which is also nicely wooded. In that area, I am sure there are some deer.
There is a shopping center across the expressway, walking distance from my house and the runoff ponds attract all manner of birds and small beasts; lots of ducks and geese of course, mostly mallards and canada geese but some other, more interesting duck pairs have appeared, as well as muskrat, blue heron, and the occasional egret. It is actually hatchling season; I'd love to go look and see how many clutches there are of the fuzzy little chirpers. |
Speaking of birds, we had some Carolina Wrens try and nest in our garage.
We put a decorative bird house on our porch, and now they nest in there. XD |
Aw, haha. Round here we mostly have robins and sparrows, some red winged blackbirds and pigeons and doves. I mean there are starlings, cardinals, jays, the occasional woodpecker, and from time to time overhead if one is lucky one might spot a bald eagle...
|
We have a lot of different kinds of birds at our feeder and yard : robins, house finches(sparrows?), blue jays, cardinals, goldfinches, morning doves, chickadees, blackbirds, crows (ravens?), and woodpeckers. We also sometimes have more unusual ones like tufted titmice, cedar waxwings, yellow flickers, mockingbirds, red-eyed verios, turkeys, and hawks.
|
House finches are smaller than sparrows and more plainly colored with, I believe, rosy breasts at least in the males.
I'm always excited to see the goldfinches; there aren't too many colorful birds which frequent the area. There was once a hawk in the backyard, but for the most part our area is too closely populated for large birds of prey to come into the yard. And there aren't turkeys, though I have seen them in the wild on occasion upstate. Mourning doves' distinctive (name-sake) cry is often heard... those birds are pretty dumb though xP. I've heard woodpeckers more than seen them, but I have seen one or two, although not in my neighborhood. The last ones you've named, I've heard of although I couldn't pick out but I don't think we get many, anyway. Blue jays, cardinals, goldfinches, mourning doves, the occasional chickadee, starlings, grackles, red winged blackbirds... those are distinctive by their calls as well. They are marsh birds... |
Gold finches, cardinals, and blue jays are such fun to see since they are so colorful.
We don't often see hawks, actually, but one was snacking on a squirrel in our yard once. Woodpeckers and chickadees like suet. We'll see a number of them when we put it out. |
Aw, that's cool then :). My dad is the one who does all the birdfeedering, but it is kind of cruel to invite birds to your yard when there is a risk of a dog coming out and grabbing one x_o.
|
I guess you would have to place the feeder high enough for the birds to be out of reach of the dog then.
|
It's not so much that, as the birds that hang out around on the ground near the feeder.
|
Femme! Long time no see...ish. How have you been?!
|
Hello, Hiccup. ^.^
We have birds that like to peck seed on the ground, too. |
Hey there Angel, honestly I should be sleep, I feel slightly unaccomplished today, not that there's a real rush for this thing I need to do. How late are you usually awake? |
I'm usually wrapping it up at this time of night.
I should have tried to get on earlier. |
Aw @ both of you.
How's everything? |
All is well here, but I'm tired and I just came on to see what's what. I have one last test problem to complete and I'm looking forward to a big fat 'A' on the front of all this! *shakesfist* |
Well best of luck with that!
I been all right - finally got my first job! Still in the training phase, but the important part is I am going to get paid XD. |
I've been good.
Good luck on your test. <3 |
*twiddles thumbs*
Dunno what to do. |
Hello all!~ ^^
|

|
Good evening, everyone. Anything new today?
|
Oh wow, congrats Femme, I do recall you worrying over that a year ago, yayness for you! |
I have a seasonal job in a cookie factory that starts on the 5th.
|
Thank you guys for the congratulations. I don't have to work today and I had Wednesday and yesterday off, but yesterday, today, tomorrow, and the next day there is a celebration for the 4th, so it is going to be quite busy.
|
They moved the start date for when my cookie factory job starts to the 11th. :o
|
Aw, haha. Have you done that job before? What does it entail?
|
|
Hey there Lauv. What's up?

I'm being lazy, too, haha. Have work tomorrow. But I'm watching Numb3rs
|
|
Well, I like it. I always get attached to the characters (particularly male leads) quite quickly, but I love the way the math is somehow connected to all of these issues, too...
|
|
Yes well, the show is called Numb3rs - what do you expect?! Haha, the lead is a brilliant young mathematician and professor at CalSci, working with his brother, an FBI agent, to help solve crimes. Charlie (the mathematician) helps use mathematical theory to trace crimes back to their commission.

That is not in particular an attraction for me XD. I like when the character relationships are interesting... but more accessible than, say, Desperate Housewives... with everyone sleeping with everyone...

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...rayed/Lazy.gifhttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...ngonmoon-1.gifhttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...rayed/Lazy.gif I like weeds...'tis very funny in a violent way >.>;; |
Aw... never watched. Didn't really draw me in. Though I do like Dexter. Of course, only two seasons are on Netflix Instant Play, and I don't have a Showtime subscription...

http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...rayed/Lazy.gifhttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...ngonmoon-1.gifhttp://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r...rayed/Lazy.gif bah, there are so much shows that we people have to watch because they're good! T_T |
