Why is it weird?

It's a historical artifact. There wasn't an official name for that class of item when Gaia first introduced them, so users took to calling them "random item generators" and then abbreviating that as "RIGs". It actually wasn't until a year or two ago that Gaia finally put an official name on them ("chance items") so RIG became the standard term used across avatar communities.

That is the only reason I knew we had a random item generator. xD
