I'm still procrastinating on that last crochet row of my phone bag xD
Like, it should take no longer than 10 minutes, but it's been sitting on my desk for days.

say 04-15-2018 03:19 PM

have you guys watched Rampage?

Kaderin Triste 04-15-2018 04:31 PM

Never even heard of it.

Damies 04-15-2018 07:08 PM

It's a giant ape film that came out this week xD
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rampage_(2018_film)

Kaderin Triste 04-15-2018 09:33 PM

Oh. I don't really keep up with movies. Unless they put the previews on as youtube ads or it's a series I'm really interested in (Fantastic Beasts mainly), I generally don't even know what's new or being made.

Damies 04-16-2018 12:15 AM

I'd heard of it but until I looked up that wiki I had no idea what it was about. xP

Kaderin Triste 04-16-2018 12:34 AM

I'm getting sidetracked from working on my monkey by improving a shirt or sweater for Derpy!

trystan830 04-16-2018 01:01 AM

not a monkey or ape, but i finished a scarf i made on one of my looms!

Kaderin Triste 04-16-2018 01:26 AM

Looks really soft. Did you use some of that Bernat blanket yarn for it?

Also...the beginnings of a Derpy shirt! Even though it doesn't look like a shirt at all yet:
https://s26.postimg.cc/sic1w94l5/20180415_233001.jpg

This is all improvised. Basically, I did the neckline in the round and am now working on the front as a flat panel, then will do the back in 2 flat panel sections (to allow for Derpy's wings), and then will sew it all up. And then possibly will make a couple little sleeves and sew those on too.

trystan830 04-16-2018 01:52 AM

oooh, cool, Kaderin!

and yes, I did use the bernat blanket yarn for the scarf.... and it's quite soft and squishy :)

say 04-16-2018 02:30 AM

It was on my radar mostly because The Rock is in it; he upgraded from scorpion king to ape king

aaah cute purple scarf

Kaderin Triste 04-16-2018 02:40 AM

I LOVE the blanket yarn! I have a scarf started for a friend in the blue, black, grey, and red yarn cake of it, but it kind of is buried in my closet at the moment...

Death by Mirrors 04-16-2018 04:03 AM

That shirt's sure going to look awesome. Can't wait to see Derpy wearing his new garment!

Scarf is nice too, seems super soft and warm.

Tbh I played the game as a kid so, in an odd twist, I'm really not interested in the movie. The whole fun of Rampage was being the giant monster and destroying with no regard for human life

It's like a cute little warm sweater for Derpy awww ;-;

trystan830 04-16-2018 10:31 AM

thanks, ket!

kaderin - i still have some more of the purple left, a big ball of pink, and some of the white/pink/purple/orange(?) - i made a huge star blanket for my sister-inlaw one year for xmas. =)

Death & Ashwood - thanks! it is!

Kaderin Triste 04-16-2018 05:17 PM

Nice! Someday I want to make a blanket with it. Once I finish many other projects anyway.

trystan830 04-16-2018 05:31 PM

go for it, Kaderin!

also question about loom knitting - if i have a thick yarn, but a loom with small pegs, could i make an drapier fabric if i skip pegs? (does that make sense?)

Kaderin Triste 04-16-2018 06:37 PM

Skipping pegs might make for a lacier fabric. Another technique would be to wrap two pegs as if they're one. I haven't actually tested either of those yet, so I would recommend doing a small swatch to see how it looks first.

trystan830 04-16-2018 06:38 PM

yeah, small swatches are always a good idea. =)

Kaderin Triste 04-16-2018 06:41 PM

...just realized I started Derpy's sweater on the loom I needed to finish my monkey. Whoops! Better start working fast on it.
XD

Good luck, Trystan! What are you going to be making?

trystan830 04-16-2018 06:47 PM

oops....

and i have no idea yet, just getting ideas. eventually a blanket or wrap would probabvly my guess.

Kaderin Triste 04-16-2018 06:57 PM

Those sound like some pretty good ideas. Just curious, what loom do you have that you're thinking of using for it?

trystan830 04-16-2018 07:50 PM

i have two: i have an infinity loom (it has a peg missing, so i got it for like 75% off); or i have a kit, that i call a "modular loom" - it's got lots of parts to make whatever size loom. the pic is all of the 'modules' that come with it.

the pegs look like they're about the same size on both but the spacing looks a little more .... spacier on the infinity loom

Kaderin Triste 04-16-2018 09:15 PM

Yeah, I have the same pieces kit, but the other one is, I think, larger gauge than the infinity looms I have. I would say, unless you want it super light and lacy, even a normal bulky weight yarn could be pretty lacy/drapy using that infinity loom, depending on what stitch you use. It's hard to say for certain without knowing the exact gauge of the loom, of course.

yeah, that makes sense. i'd probably use the e-wrap stitch - it's not as tight as the knit stitches

Kaderin Triste 04-16-2018 09:27 PM

Another stitch I would suggest is maybe figure 8 stitch. It makes for a nice almost mock-crochet lacy look.
https://s26.postimg.cc/etvrx8stl/20180225_184457.jpg

This one is worsted weight with a 1/2" gauge loom. Bulky with a 3/4" would produce a slightly thicker, but very similar look.

trystan830 04-16-2018 10:03 PM

oh that's cool too... i'll have to look into that one as well. =)

Kaderin Triste 04-16-2018 10:29 PM

At first, I wasn't sure I liked it, but it's such a fast and easy stitch once you get going and it actually looks nice for lighter blankets and other projects.

trystan830 04-16-2018 11:28 PM

i used it for two or so rows in my scarf, to see what it did and looked like. i need to figure out what to make, and what yarn to even use, so there is that bit as well.

Den 04-17-2018 10:38 PM

I'm making a spider. Mostly so I can get a feel for the pattern, before I make one that I'm turning into a drider dolly.

Kaderin Triste 04-18-2018 04:54 PM

Hey...that's not an ape!
Lol. Looks good so far though!

Derpy's sweater (the main part at least) is half done! Gotta do the back parts now.
Also, I realized my bind off might make it too snug around the bottom edge, so it might have kind of laced up sides instead of sewing them up. So it might be more of a tunic almost.
XD

Death by Mirrors 04-19-2018 05:15 AM

Give Derpy roman sandals and some laurels, then it'll look deliberate ^^

Also Den, Drider dolly sounds awesome.

KittyBeary 04-19-2018 06:52 AM

I'm suddenly in the mood to make plush riceballs.... ._."

Kaderin Triste 04-19-2018 01:06 PM

Den: Oh man...trying to do Roman sandals would be a pain for his tiny, awkwardly shaped feet...

Kitty: Do it! They would be so cute!

Also, finished the main shirt parts just have to do a little finishing on the sides and back. The collar actually worked out to be perfect, but I might have to increase the size of the back panels next time if I want it to be fully stitched up and still fit.

Drider dolly progress:

Damies 04-25-2018 08:31 PM

I love when my "oops I have leftover paint" painting ends up better then the one I did first. xD

I have seen them and they both have pros and cons. I'd say they are equally good.

They dried results are actually quite different than my initial photos. I should re-photo....

Den 04-26-2018 10:08 PM

I'm working on a pair of socks.

trystan830 04-26-2018 10:09 PM
