I'm about 8 rows away from finishing the third chart of my shawl/blanket. And I'm hoping I don't run out of yarn, because I don't have the money on hand to buy more atm. Thankfully, finding a match won't be impossible, because Red Heart Super Saver doesn't have a dye lot for the colors I'm using. :3

Actually, I've only made 3 of them total (socks, not pairs). The first 2 were a matching pair only I did the bind off too tightly on one of them and the yarn eventually snapped and started to unravel. And the third one was supposed to be a pair, but I got distracted by other projects and now I don't remember my row counts. They, too, were saved on one of my old phones. Also, as far as yarn dying goes, I've gone the cheapo way and I just used kool-aid powder and also food coloring. I haven't really tested the color durability when washing, but since those dyes really only work well on wools and animal fiber blends (at least 50% animal fiber), they'd n3ed more gentle washing anyway unless you're felting it. Although I did start buying superwash wool when it became an option. I haven't been brave enough to test it and I also don't remember which ones are normal wool and which are the superwash because I forgot to label them. I would love to experiment more with dyeing though and also to get actual yarn dyes. |
I might just have enough yellow yarn to finish the chart I'm on with the shawl.

That's good, Den ^^ running out of yarn early is such a pain, especially when you don't have money to buy more right away and/or the one you were using isn't readily available anymore.
Kool-aid powder, huh. Interesting. It somehow never occurred to me you could use food coloring to dye yarn, but now that I think about it, why not. In another forum someone recently posted a picture of their hand dyed yarn (don't ask me what color they used though) and it was dyed as a knit tube, then unraveled. Reknitting the yarn into a pair of socks yielded a pattern of color distribution that looked quite different from how it seemed on the tube, so that's got just the right amount of mystery. Ah yes. I have never had a piece unravel on myself - mainly because I haven't even done so many to begin with - but I can see how wear and tear becomes a problem. That's actually the reason I also want to learn naalbinding, because a lady working in our local open-air museum once told me socks and gloves won't unravel so easy when they get holes. |
I just started making a pompom rug. It’s gonna be the best ouo
I’m already out of yarn though ouo I feel you |
i saw a video with a cool way to make a little pompom mat... but i doubt i'll make it. i'm working on a puffy blanket that's made with slightly stuffed hexagons. it's in its baby stage, so i don't have pics of the blanket. but i have some of the hexipuffs i made.

Guys! I drew a flower on my leg while I was bored last night! That counts for the challenge this month, right?!
Lol. But I am just a semi-complex bind off away from actually finishing a flower. Quote:

Good thing about using Red Heart Super Saver is that there's no dye lot for the solid colors.

Guys! For Derpy's birthday should I make a bunch of mini cupcakes or just one (or two...well, a full batch probably because I always make a lot) normal sized cupcake(s) to decorate like it's a normal (for Derpy) cake size? If I do the latter, I'll probably just take 2 or so cupcakes, trim the top off so they're flat, and cut them to make layers. Like a normal cake. And then decorate the entire outside. You know...like a cake.
There are pros and cons to each, but I don't really know which one I want to do. And yes....I do realize he's just a stuffed animal, but it's an excuse to make and decorate delicious cupcakes... AND ALSO! JUST A REMINDER! May is almost over! Will your flower project bloom? Better hurry up and finish it! |
I made turtle cupcakes on my turtles birthday green iceing on reg size (body) plus minis (head) green sprinkle eyes let me find pix

Welp it's on my other phone but I found a pix I found online in my phone |
That's a pup-cake! XD
I probably won't have the time or energy (or skill) to do anything too elaborate. Probably just a simple rose swirl on the top if I do mini cupcakes. Or a traditional, yet mini, cake decorating if I assemble cupcakes to look like a Derpy-sized cake. (Probably just simple piping around the edges and some easy flowers or something...) Rose swirl from a few years ago: https://s26.postimg.cc/72f3sldc9/FB_...7627815454.jpg |
I found that image on my new phone I had to dig in my old phone for turtles pix and take a photo with this camera of my old cells screen but tada they are actually key lime green this phone takes cruddy pix

Awwww. Those are so cute!

I found an idea on google dragon cupcakes (unicorns in pic cute too but yeah dragon ones is why I posting this)

I probably won't have the energy to do the fondant dots and spines even though the shape is simple. Plus, I really don't like fondant at all. But I might be able to pipe spines and dots on. Or just spines since Derpy doesn't have dots.
XD We'll see how ambitious I feel in a couple weeks. |

I wanna make these pinyata cupcakes I forgot he's not spotted xD I was gonna say mnm or skittle spots taffy spine (or some candy) I cant think atm but piping works too |
Taffy spine!
Actually, to go with the flavor I'm thinking (coffee cupcake with a vanilla buttercream icing), white chocolate spine would be better, but it would be tricky to do unless I go with shorter spines and just use white chocolate chips. Also, piñata cupcakes would be really fun to make! |
Ohh yeah chocolate chips sound cool too or like those chocolate waffer cookie things I forgot the name
Here's what I'm gonna do pinyata cupcake but maybe NOT SKITTLES more leaning on chocolate candy https://s15.postimg.cc/mlpgbfdbv/Cap...9-19-39-23.png |
I'll have to investigate the cookie and candy aisles at the store tonight...
Use Reese's pieces! And m&ms! And those little mini kitkat bites! |
If it was Halloween time candycorn would have been perfect :( I know I've seen white chocolate Hershey kisses or the hugs but I believe they may be limited supply or nuts crushed oooh or the craft foam sheets (non eddible spines)
|
Or those candy melts that you can buy at places maybe. I don't remember how thick they are, but I could possibly chop them into small triangle shapes. I'll probably avoid non-edible stuff (could be a choking hazard for Derpy! 8O lol), but there should be a decent amount of options for me to choose from.
|
And don't forget to make him a tiny paper cone hat
|
Yes! And a present!
|
Sweeeeet :) I got to thinking about the flavor and I was thinking maybe for the spines use almonds especially if you can find the sliced thin flat style kind they would pair nicely with the flavor (unless you don't like almonds then that won't work)
https://s15.postimg.cc/58jrai2bf/7a8...nosaur-par.jpg Oh and it's time for new theme thinking sooo maybe dino/dragon/scales |
Oh yeah! Almonds would be perfect!
Hmmm....I like that theme...but then, I have been re-reading Jurassic Park again... XD We'll see if anyone else has any theme suggestions in the next couple days though. Just to be all diplomatic about theme choice and all... |
my may flowers painting is HIDEOUS.
|
SHOW US ANYWAY!
I still have to finish my flower. Should dig it out of the closet and do that after work... |
Kay but I warned you it's ugly!
|
I kind of like the overall effect with the striping and stuff. But I think the red and green kind of don't work for me. Like, they kind of seem a bit muddy in the areas where they're blending some. However, for (I assume) a first try, it's really not that bad.
|
I just chose crappy colors and made them too watery so they got muddied up and bleagh.
|
Try again with hot pink and yellow! (If you have them). If the colors blend, they'd just make a vivid orange so it would give a silhouette against a sunset effect.
8D |
i made exactly zero flowers.
but i'm making cute kitty socks.... |
GIMMIE!
I need all the cat socks! |
in progress:
https://images4-b.ravelrycache.com/u...19_medium2.jpg i'm doing the heel on the grey cat sock now, actually |
|
I got frustrated with my rainbow shawl, so I put it in time out for awhile.
|
|
Noooo! I want them!
|
they're for my feetsies. XD
