I had tons of mandatory computer classes at the schools I attended so I learned home keys as
Left hand: asdf
Right hand jkl;
both thumbs on space at all times
from there every finger can access a specific line of letters making it more efficient to type without corrections at a faster pace. Our teachers pretty much drilled it into us that most of us were going to be desk sitters.
