I want to play this for the customization. First person game or not I like the ability to make my character look "just right" >>
I have literally spent more than an hour when they give you the right customization tools :P |
Dunno. I don't think I've seen anything in Morrowind that wasn't in Daggerfall. I don't think they really need anything new. I still havne't played most of them. My dad likes Bretons, my friend likes Redguards (I think), my stepbrother is a dark elf type, I mostly have Khajiits, etc. I've only significantly played Khajiits, Argonians, and Dunmer. I have one Bosmer character and one Nord but haven't played very far in either game yet. Argonians can move quite fast, and the water breathing ability is great for pearl diving early game.
I'm partial to Bosmers, given that I'm nearly always some kind of assassin.
And as far as I know, all the races are returning. |
I don't think I'm very particular to a certain race... though there are several I haven't played as, like Imperials, Bretons, Orcs, and Nords.
Perhaps I'll pick up Oblivion again and see about playing as some of those races. o 3o |
I'm not sure I've ever played anything besides a Bosmer, now that I think about it...
Well then you should try some other races, maybe you'll find out you love playing as another one. :]
I think I recall one of the books in MW talking about a connection between the Bosmer and Khajiit, like the used to be the same race or something but one changed or something and they didn't like each other, usual stuff. I'll have to go look. I have the book around. Since I pretty much own everything I'll ever need and steal most of the rest I've stopped selling books and am stashing them in my house now. The book of the Deadra is a curious one, and common. There's a popular quote I've seen around from it about the daedras view on mortals.
o_O. That's kind of weird. Don't see many similarities given that one's an elf and the other is a anthropomorph.
Well we are talking fictional mythology here. Ancient Greece has three ages of people of varying ability. I'll look it up if I can dig up the book. My "library" is not sorted all that well at the moment.
I was going to post some screen shots of a couple of my Morrowind characters here but that requires tweaking an important file and I don't want to risk messing it up. Maybe I'll see how good my camera is if people want to see. |
I spent over two hours editing the face of my last character in Oblivion. She came out staggeringly better than my previous characters. I have it on PS3, though, so I'd have to take a photo of my t.v. to show you what she looks like.

Found the story I was looking for. It's in the books "Words of the Clan Mother Ahnissi" and details the creation mythology of the Khajiit which includes the Bosmer. It's hard to be brief, as the story is full of many names and details, but essentially involves the two favoured children of the mother godess. One she gives the ability to make children and the other she gives her secrets and tells her to take a child from her sister and make a new people and call them the Khajiit. Why the Khajiit are the way they are has to do with the details of the story but in a nutshell, the siblings don't get along and a third littermate tells the childbearing sibling what the other one did, and in thanks the childbearing sibling allowed the third littermate to make a people of his own, and he makes the Bosmer, at which point the two lose their relation because the Bosmer are changed too much.

*head swims at lore* Don't you know these games are about wandering the wilderness and mass murdering guards!? Who takes the time to read the books, seriously? :p
Oh, and horses are definitely in, and looking much better. One might even say epic. |
Huzzah! I gets mine destrier!
Okay, enough of that. ;) And you've already got the Tolkein nerd slot covered so I may as well delve into something nerdy too! I'll need this stuff if I every get possessed to write Elder Scrolls fanfiction. |
Oh, right, forgot about that project. You should get possessed to write that. :p
I would first have to have something to write about. Nigiri's adventures are pretty dull so far, minus the Dark Brotherhood assassin that tried to kill me who was incredibly weak because he was scaled to my level but his armour was not so now I'm level 8 or so running around in one of the bests sets of light armour one can get in the game. I'd call that a flaw on the part of the game but I suppose the designers might not have expected players to make new characters for an expansion.
Well, that's what Morrowind was all about. Lack of level scaling puts high-level gear in reach of low-level characters.
I think Bethesda said that item scaling will be in Skyrim, but I hope it's a bit more flexible than Oblivion's was. |
My boyfriend is waiting for this game xD I've seen trailers of it and saw where they said the dragons are unscripted which means they roam around freely just attacking anything, anywhere, etc. pretty cool that this game ties into nature pretty well and the graphics look beautiful, I also like the dual-wield ability and the enhancing spells/magic using both triggers or whatever.
One thing I really hope they get rid of from Oblivion is non-scaling quest rewards, like the one ice-sword from an early quest that doesn't peak until you're level 30, so you either take junk from the guy or hold off on claiming it until you've already beaten the game. Just a stupid piece of game design. Hopefully it's fixed in Skyrim.
The armour thing is the only major issue that I've had so far, or felt I've had, as far as item issues. Mirri having already been in existance for a while when I got the expansion didn't have that issue since she was higher level to begin with.
Even though lower level characters can get higher level items, I've found that, in Morrowind at least, they aren't usually easy to get so it balances out that way in a sense. If you do manage to get something special, you usually need to work for it. |
I found that having the UESP wiki open whilst playing the game made things of that sort a lot easier. :p
Well then it's hardly the games fault then, is it? :P. Though I did manage to find one of the cameo rings without help, simply by virtue of insisting on exploring every bit of every map. Wouldn't want to miss anything. ;). Though that is, of course, why I was already higher than my dad's finishing level when I was half-way through Baldur's Gate.

Clean-up in Skyrim thread. Suzerain's jaw is on the floor.

-cleans up after Suzerain-
It's a really tasty looking game... |
My boyfriend is also sitting on pins and needles in anticipation for this game.
Heh. The new inventory system looks nice. I wonder how they're going to pull off the dual spell thing for PC. I don't have a consol that can run it.
Probably right-click + left-click, I'd imagine.
Somehow I doubt it will be that basic. One hopes though.
We might be talking about two different things. I can't imagine the mapping for dual-wielding controls will be anything else. It isn't really any more basic than right trigger + left trigger on a console controller.
Also, I'm still waiting on word from the whole "mods for consoles" idea before I decide which system to get it for. If I get it for PC, I'm going to get a gamepad to play it with anyway (despite finally haveing a USB mouse for my laptop). |
"Right click" in Morrowind on PC is assigned to pause and the box display for maps, inventory, spells, and stats. There's a number of keyboard commands that I don't use because taking my hand off the mouse to activate the right hand keys get's tricky. It's also a pain in the butt. I'm just going to assume the current keyboard commands will be shifted around since most of the logical keys are taken up with other things.
Maybe you could just get a controller Quiet? I think you can get a pretty decent one for not TOO much money, and you could use it for other stuff too right?
I don't have many other games but that's a thought anyway. I haven't used a controller with a computer since I played a game on my dad's old Mac that had a joystick.
Do you have a PS1? You could buy a USB converter for it and then it would even be a fairly comfortable controller ;)
Nope. Just a PS2 slim and a Wii. I play Morrowind on my laptop which does have two extra USB ports. It has three but I use one for my mouse.
Oh, wow, I was thinking PS2 and I wrote PS1 >< My roommate (Joey) uses a PS2 controller with a USB converter for his computer. I've tried it and it works pretty well, and since you have the controller anyways... I'm not sure how much a converter is though.
I can check that. Having a computer adapted controller might be usefull. :)
Skyrim, hmm I'm going to have to look into this
hasn't played oblivion in over a year, nearly forgot about it bahh runs off to play it |
I keep wanting to play Oblivion while I'm waiting for this, but if I can manage to hold off, I'll that much more excited to play it once it comes out. 'tis tough, though.
I'm a patient self, I can wait. It does help that I have yet to actually finish Morrowind. I keep forgetting to go get Daggerfall. I could finish that one too, or even just make it past the stupid Lich dungeon. Or maybe it was something about worms. Can't really recall.
Oh, don't even get me started on how excited I am for Skyrim... I'm a bit unhealthily excited for it. Everything I compare to it (even though it hasn't come out yet) just pales in comparison to my hopes for Skyrim. ~<3 Why does November seem like an eternity away?! D: |
Consider it time for those among us with no money to save up for it. I'm hoping my laptop will run it. I may buy it anyway and stash it for later use with a better computer is that's the case. I still have Warcraft III hanging around that I haven't bothered to try and install yet. It's rare that I'm excited for new games. I still haven't bothered to try my brother's copy of Dragon Age that he said he'd lend me, and most of the games I want are older and thus harder to find. I'd love to get my hands on a copy of Dungeon Keeper eventually.
