I'm a magical mind-reader, Kami. I know all your secrets. :3

Kamikaze Chinchilla 10-20-2010 09:48 PM

@Wink: Nothing much. Preparing for arting :3

How about you? :3

@Lucid: Nyuuurr! D:

Wink 10-20-2010 09:51 PM

@ Kamikaze
Well about to go to sleep, gotta go haha. XD Bye. o.o

Kamikaze Chinchilla 10-20-2010 09:52 PM

Aww, night night Wink.

Lucid: 10-20-2010 09:59 PM

**pokes the chinchilla** YUSHHHH. >:3

Kamikaze Chinchilla 10-20-2010 10:02 PM

Aaah! *runs around in circles within the cage* D:

Fallen 10-20-2010 10:24 PM

/stalks Lucid. >.>
And he evil minion, the Chinchilla? O:

Lucid: 10-20-2010 10:53 PM

**throws some strawberries at the chinchilla** ^.^

so I'm posting on here from ubuntu...I think I like it well enough. the mouse is touchier than I'm used to but that's no big deal. the only thing I'm hesitant about is actually using it for all my regular stuff...I left most of my installation CDs (important programs like Photoshop, microsoft office, et cetera) back home, even if the programs do work with wine.

Fallen 10-20-2010 11:03 PM

Ahh, he already told you his systems and whatnot. xD
Yeah, I could understand that. Where are you now, though, to leave everything at home?
( I hope like... not in a dorm or something. D: )

Lucid: 10-20-2010 11:26 PM

yeah, I'm in a dorm. XDDD I don't mind the dorm itself so much as the fact that I don't have a kitchen. I want to cook my own food! D:<

I had looked into getting ubuntu before, so all I really needed was that extra push to get into it again. I'd consider using it, but I need to get a portable hard drive so I can shuffle all my important files around. >.< everything's saved in windows.

Espy 10-20-2010 11:49 PM

Geh.
-rolls-
I still got Calc hw to finish; anyone wanna help me integrate stuff?

Fallen 10-21-2010 12:18 AM

Lucid: Haa, well, I hope you can get it all soon enough.
(Especially if you're like me and go insane if you can't organize everything immediately. xD)

Yeah. Terabyte drives are good for that I think (or, in my opinion). I have one and know it would be of great use if I needed to move anywhere or switch computers (especially if I start collecting music again). d:

Random: My new favorite song by Sufjan Stevens is "John Wayne Gacy, Jr." Just.. wow.

Espy: Oh heck no. xD

Espy 10-21-2010 12:34 AM

It's only single variable. Not multi.

Fallen 10-21-2010 12:34 AM

...::nervous::...
Gimme an example. xD

Lucid: 10-21-2010 12:36 AM

I don't remember any calculus. D: it's not important to life. seriously.

<3 I'm so glad we're spreading so much music-love in here!

I know right? >_>

Edit; Yes! I've been inspired to find more music again, thanks to you! ^_^

So, I've been thinking [for a matter of days now] of making this thread in the Media forum dedicated entirely to suggesting new bands to whomever wants it, perhaps even giving a brief description of each band you suggest so that people aren't blindly adding to figure out they actually don't like it. I just can't get the guts to do it (since I'm still new and all D;). Is it worth trying, or no? D:

Kamikaze Chinchilla 10-21-2010 12:55 AM

*shoves the strawberries into her mouth and stores them in her cheek area* \^w^/

so Kami is a lady-chinchilla? ;D

Fallen, I think that would definitely be worth making. sometimes I do go around adding bands blindly anyway, but it always helps to have a little description. I've added bands blindly that I end up loving, but some I end up deleting because they're so awful. DX

Kamikaze Chinchilla 10-21-2010 01:03 AM

If you say so, I'll play it ;3. Male, female, both or neither xP

Lucid: 10-21-2010 01:05 AM

I seem to remember someone saying that earlier in this thread when Inari didn't know what gender she really was. ;P

Kamikaze Chinchilla 10-21-2010 01:12 AM

So long as you don't say the name or point out the page, I don't mind if you know it xD. Please keep my real identity under wraps.

flame.leaf 10-21-2010 01:32 AM

"Head, First, Down" is one of my favorite songs by him, nice choice. ^_^
He's got two albums out, the first one's called "The Submarine" and the second is "Go Forth, Find Mammoth". They should both be on filestube, because that's where I found them.

As for Ubuntu... okay, this is where Linux really shines. I'm talking about free, better alternatives to the mainstream software most people are used to. First of all, just forget about Microsoft Office and give Open Office a try. It's seriously much better, and ironically it's also better at reading Microsoft Word files than Microsoft Word is. Doc, Docx, it doesn't matter. It's just awesome. I used it on Windows even, before I even switched to Linux. As for Photoshop... give the GIMP a shot. Unlike Open Office it's got a pretty different interface than Photoshop, but it's just as powerful and you can do anything in it that you can in Photoshop, once you get past that learning curve. Or if you really just prefer Photoshop, it should work fine in WINE. It's all in the software manager, or synaptic, whichever you prefer.

Any other programs you use regularly in windows that don't transfer over without WINE?

Also, what's all this about a chinchilla? xD

Espy 10-21-2010 01:37 AM

An example? It's just basic power rule XD

flame.leaf 10-21-2010 01:41 AM

Blah. I didn't notice that next page. xD

With files, Ubuntu can easily mount your windows partition(s) and transfer files over without an external drive... it's getting your files from Ubuntu back to Windows that Windows can't handle. xD

I was in a dorm last year. Now I'm in a apartment. Being able to cook is awesome. It's cheaper and tastes better than the crap in the dining halls here.

@Fallen: My terabyte drive is almost full. I only have my music on it.
And by all means YES! I will populate it until I pass out from exhaustion! xD

@Epsy: I haven't taken calc since... wait... I've never taken it, even in high school. Math has always been my worst subject. Never liked it.

I'm sure we've all done it. xD I know I have!

Espy: That tells you how much I know about Calculous. xD

Kamikaze Chinchilla 10-21-2010 01:42 AM

B3 *Chinchilla hides under a mound of dirt*

Lucid: 10-21-2010 01:56 AM

Kami, so I was right? :O my dreams are prophetic and awesome. but I'll keep you a secret. <3 **feeds more strawberries**

ooooh, I can transfer without a hard drive? good to know...that makes me more likely to switch.
I would be willing to give open office a try, but I've already used GIMP and like photoshop a lot better. I'm sure it would work fine with wine, but I don't have the installation CD.
I think the only other thing I use regularly that wouldn't work with wine is my accounting class lecture software. not necessarily because I don't think it would work, but because I paid $45 to get it installed on my computer and don't know if I can even download it again. but as long as I keep a windows partition I can go back and use windows to listen to my lectures.

I almost never eat in the dining hall. they don't usually have vegetarian food. DX I buy freezer pastas and microwave tomato soup, and occasionally eat out at Jamba Juice or Subway, because my meal plan covers all on-campus restaurants. I wish I had a kitchen apartment; I would love to cook tasty food and not pay as much for it.

so I found the Go Forth, Find Mammoth album and I love it! I'll continue my music-downloading adventures tomorrow though because I need to sleep before 2 in the morning. DX

Fallen 10-21-2010 02:03 AM

Kind of an edit post: Thar: Lol, I didn't notice your post until later as well. xD
Anywho, that thread's there and I totally feel like a plagiarizer. It's practically Mibba's thread, but with a little more discussion expected from you. xD;

Holy crap, how could it be almost full already? xD I've obviously forgotten that this is truly your addiction. Lol. How many gigs do you have nowadays?

Edit; THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEGGIES MAN! ::veggie head but not really::
It doesn't sound as thought you're eating all that bad. A little much on the salt and carbs (as everyone else is too) but it's not like you're having pizza every day. You're doing much better than I would be. xD
Though, I do agree, if I were in a dorm I'd want a kitchen. >_>

Kamikaze Chinchilla 10-21-2010 02:03 AM

*stuffs herself with more strawberries* >w<

Yah, but someone else guessed before you. He figured me out by my original sig ^^'

Lucid: 10-21-2010 02:08 AM

I had a suspicion just by your general conversation style. and the fact that you should've been an artist here a long time ago, and because you got hired like the day after you sent in that thing to Fenris. and then your other account pretty much just disappeared. everything pointed to you, I just wanted to trick you into giving yourself away before I said anything. XDDDD (in other words I was scared of being wrong and looking dumb, lawl.)

flame.leaf 10-21-2010 02:12 AM

That's understandable. I have friends that prefer GIMP and others that like Photoshop more and hate GIMP. It's personal preference, I guess. I prefer GIMP but used to use Photoshop, so I'm comfortable with either.

There's other software too that you might want to try as an alternative to wine. For example, I know iTunes really doesn't work that well in WINE, but there's a plethora of alternatives. I've tried Rhythmbox, Amarok, Banshee, Exaile, and Quodlibet. I prefer Quodlibet because it's the fastest and most reliable player I've ever used (it can handle my library where everything else crashes the entire system, as well as being able to load everything faster than the OS can boot up). It lacks iPod support though, so I use gtkpod for that. If you're used to iTunes, I'd most reccomend Banshee. It has a very similar feel, and tries to do the same thing, only better. It can even play videos and has great iPod support.

And yeah, its really annoying when classes do that. For my classical music class this quarter my professor gives us streaming audio that can only be played in Quicktime, so I'm forced to run it through WINE.

Ah, yeah, I'm an omnivore, but last year with the dining hall... about half the time, their meat was so sketchy I just avoided it in fear of my health and taste buds. xD

It's my favorite album of his. His first one is great too and has the song that got me into him in the first place,

And yes, good plan. I should be getting sleep too. I have fencing early tomorrow morning. ^_^

Fallen 10-21-2010 02:15 AM

Oh, by the way, congratulations on the construction of your avatar, Flame. :)

flame.leaf 10-21-2010 02:25 AM

Thanks Fallen. :]
It's not completely done, but its mostly done. I like how it looks. xD

Kamikaze Chinchilla 10-21-2010 02:40 AM

lol xD. Well Lucid guessed right xD. Congratulations xP

Espy 10-21-2010 02:42 AM

I wanna know, but oh well.

Kamikaze Chinchilla 10-21-2010 02:46 AM

Oh Espy, you silly person you xD *makes a nest in Espy's hair* x3

Espy 10-21-2010 04:40 AM

...!!

Lucid: 10-21-2010 12:53 PM

yeah, our cafeteria place has 6 sections of food. one has oven-baked foods and soups, one is italian (usually pasta) one is a grill, one is a salad bar, and one is the "Euro" section. I think a lot of people avoid the meats in that one because it's cooked different and has odd sauces and flavorings. but I get plats of just the vegetables there whenever I do eat in the cafeteria. darn freshmen and their weird tastes in food!

Fallen 10-21-2010 01:00 PM

You know... I'm beginning to worry about you guys with all this weird meat talk. D:
(And here I thought it was just the University and Santa Cruz.) ::shot::

Lucid: 10-21-2010 01:05 PM

I haven't had to worry about weird meat in over 4 years. I'm good. ;D
but yeah, I think since most colleges have to prepare food for a bazillion people, they have weird, mass-produced meats because they're cheap.
