thanks! i led the service with our DRE (Director of Religious Education*) too.

*well, we want to call the RE program "Religious Exploration" but it's been Religious Education for a lonnnnng time, but Religious Exploration is actually more accurate.

Awen Moonshine 10-28-2014 11:45 AM

Wow! That sounds like a pretty big thing! Congrats! ^_^

trystan830 10-28-2014 11:49 AM

thanks. it kinda was a big thing. =)

one of the guys even said i should be a regular lay leader. well, it's all right, but i'm not really a fan of speaking to audiences...

Lawtan 10-28-2014 07:00 PM

I'll be drawing. Samhain is about creativity to me...

Den 10-28-2014 08:08 PM

I'll be doing a bit of smudge work after I get done with a halloween party... and reminiscing, unless I can get a few things to make a travel alter on Thursday. Then I'll do a bit more than just smudge work.

trystan830 10-28-2014 09:28 PM

my girls have invited friends over for a halloween party... they've had friends over for the past six years. they made their costumes this year again (they did last year).

Samhain, for me, is a time to remember who has come before; and also for letting go of things that are harmful to you.

Awen Moonshine 10-29-2014 05:38 AM

I can't do anything too big this year because I just realized that my mum and baby brother are coming up the next day to babysit while me and my partner go into London for a concert... It'll probably be a day of quiet reflection remembering my son though...

trystan830 10-29-2014 10:08 AM

ooh, i'd love to be able to just go into London for...whatever. few problems: big pond to cross, i'd need to update my passport... yeah. =)

*hugs*

Lawtan 10-29-2014 10:11 AM

Ocean spirits say: Umm...where's our pay for crossing?

(Forgive my humor. It's weird sometimes)

trystan830 10-29-2014 10:21 AM

see? i'd have to pay the ocean spirits too.

(my humor is kinda weird too. :f-mew:)

Awen Moonshine 10-29-2014 11:12 AM

Lol... I live just outside London in Kent ^_^;; Going into London is still quite a big deal even for me though ^_^ I always end up spending too much money (mostly in chinatown) but thankfully we are just going to the Royal Albert Hall to see the Final Fantasy : Distant Worlds concert then coming straight home again ^_^

Ocean Spirits can be a pain if not properly appeased or not favoured by them... ^_^;;
( I love all sorts of humor, although mine is a little off most of the time)

trystan830 10-29-2014 11:26 AM

that still sounds cool!

i'm about 45 minutes to an hour from Center City Philly, but i hate driving in the city. i'm also not that far from NYC, but when your budget for excursions is $0, you pretty much don't go anywhere.

back in June, my daughters and i did go to Philly ComicCon. took the train, that was fun. :)

Awen Moonshine 10-29-2014 11:36 AM

That sounds much like us, except that we also don't have a lot of free time to go anywhere we want to go (and I don't drive)... ^_^ I wanted to go to London MCM Expo last weekend but we needed to tidy the house in preparation for my mum and brothers arrival, as we don't have a lot of time to do that in the evenings and it's nearly all my partners crap strewn everywhere that needs sorting... >.<;;

Witchchylde 10-29-2014 12:43 PM

Still kind of thinking about how to observe this year while still having to live in a non-pagan household with my Mother. Possibly will try baking cookies. Definitely want to make a sincere try of it.

trystan830 10-29-2014 01:05 PM

@Awen - it's mostly my stuff that's all over the place... and my kids' stuff.

@Witchchylde - i found Paganism when i was an adult (and had been married and out of my parents' house for 5 years) but i'm still in the broom closet as far as they're concerned. pretty much everyone else knows. i hope you're able to celebrate & observe in a meaningful way. *hugs*

Lawtan 10-29-2014 02:14 PM

Witchchylde, perhaps some service? Helping one another, or take a walk around your block, collecting trash/recycling?

(For Halloween once, I collected ~80 books to give to a school for kids whose parents were institutionalized.)

Den 10-30-2014 09:16 PM

So in addition to smudgework, I'll be doing a bit of money-drawing magic for a friend and myself.

Awen Moonshine 11-03-2014 06:51 AM

How did everyones Samhain go?

trystan830 11-03-2014 11:11 AM

it went pretty much like Halloween does around my neighborhood. we didn't really have any ritual, since we did one on the 26th at my UU fellowship. =) and then yesterday, we kinda had a Day of Remembrance/Day of the Dead thing.

Witchchylde 11-03-2014 01:57 PM

Ours was quiet as usual. My daughter never did like dressing up for it so now that she's grown I'm the only one in the family who even tries putting on a costume. I did spend some time thinking of lost family members, two and four footed both.

trystan830 11-03-2014 02:08 PM

both my girls and i dress up still. my daughters are 17 and 13. =)

Lawtan 11-03-2014 03:11 PM

I drew a mix of a Carrion Bird and a Cave Hyena...skeletons, of course...

trystan830 11-03-2014 03:21 PM

i can't really draw things to look like what i want them too. i just write instead.

Lawtan 11-03-2014 03:27 PM

I'm an amateur drawer and writer (and Engineer), so...he looks good enough for where I am at the moment - not where I want to be eventually,

(Hey! An improvement on self image! Quick, call someone who knows me, and this will give them a heart attack! xD)

trystan830 11-03-2014 09:01 PM

that's still really cool, Lawtan. =)

what do you write?

Den 11-03-2014 09:04 PM

It was so cold by the time I got time to do the ritual that I couldn't film it like I'd promised a curious friend I would... and near the end of the ritual, I asked for a sign that it would be alright for me to end the ritual... and my Samhain candle blew out. The other two candles I had going stayed lit, so I took that as my cue to pack up for the night.

trystan830 11-03-2014 09:07 PM

Den, i LOVE That book you have! is that purchaseable somewhere?

Lawtan 11-03-2014 09:26 PM

It's an old item - Spellbound.

Sorry you couldn't film it, Den

As to writing, right now I am working more on reconstructions of older, fragmentary pieces of mythology - mixing them with the history/geography of the area. I plan on moving from there into a full low-fantasy world, as well as science fiction and horror...

Den 11-03-2014 09:31 PM

Maybe I'll be able to film the next ritual I do, either at Yule or at the calendar new year...

well it's a really cool old item. i love books!

that sounds like some really cool writing!

Awen Moonshine 11-04-2014 05:53 AM

You guys all sound so creative... I just get ideas about doing things, but never actually get around to doing/finishing them...

trystan830 11-04-2014 11:19 AM

oddly enough, i finish a lot of what i start...

i only have one piece of writing that's still in progress... and one of these days i will finish it... honest!

Lawtan 11-04-2014 12:21 PM

Don't worry about it too much, Awen. I am just getting to the point where I can finish several things I started...

Awen Moonshine 11-07-2014 05:38 AM

Well I guess having a little one does excuse me somewhat... It just annoys me that I never seem to get anything finished... ^_^;;

Den 11-20-2014 11:30 PM

So, is anyone doing anything special for Yule/Jul?

Lawtan 11-20-2014 11:32 PM

Likely not as much ;~;...

trystan830 11-20-2014 11:50 PM

probably not really. we celebrate ChanaYuleMas, and we seem to not do much on Yule.

Karastorm 12-08-2014 02:44 PM

I class my self as a heathen pagan following the routes laid down by the vikings :3.

trystan830 12-08-2014 02:50 PM

hi there, Karastorm! =)

Lawtan 12-08-2014 03:56 PM

Welcome! *Pours some Ambrosia for everyone*
