That probably came from some characters being total stereotypes. Granted, I stopped reading after the first few books, but Draco for example always came across to me like your typical run-of-the-mill haughty snob bully. Are there even canon Slytherins with personality? (Not neccessarily in a "people I want to be friends with" way, but "well-rounded and understandable in their actions")
The real main issue with the stereotyping of the houses is that with the larger quantity of major main characters plus minor main characters, there was already so much going on that it was hard to add in any secondary characters of substance, so it was easier to just make someone fit the generic house stereotype, since their brief cameo appearance, in either book or movie, was not very likely to be memorable anyway.

Mom and I did some cleaning in the spare room today, luckily threw a lot of stuff away and but some in the garage instead of putting it all in the garage.
Mom is super fired up to arrange out house like this: https://i.imgur.com/s4vmM9nl.jpg The rooms with drawn in furniture are the ones we'd be rearranging the blank ones are gonna stay essentially the same. Edit: Link to lager image Edit2: I also didn't add the house's windows on accident now that I look at it. x nx |
Most likely, yes. Then again it would've been awesome if J.K.Rowling put as much attention to the details of character creation as she did to world building. I enjoyed the overall atmosphere of Hogwarts and the wizarding world, but never could really get into the plot or characters *shrug* tastes in books differ, I guess.

I feel the a bit in opposite way actually. While not every character was that great, I was more impressed by them than I was by her world. Mainly because even though she used real world settings but with a magical twist, it felt too disconnected/isolated almost. Like all the stuff with Voldemort just seemed to have zero impact on the global wizarding world (and yes, while it has been mentioned outside of the books that the world as a whole was impacted by Voldemort's rise and fall sitiation, it wad never really shown in the series at all). And, as I have seen others mention, with so many witches and wizards from muggle families, why was there no influence from the non-maj world? No parents sending their kids with ballpoint pens and notebooks because parchment and quills are outdated and stupid? No muggle refrences that went over the pure-blood's heads? The world in general was okay, but I felt like there were a lot of things that could have been done better/fleshed out more about it. Outside of most aspects of the school itself, the world created just felt kind of half-assed to me.
*nods* you do have a point there with the ball pens.
I'd love to read a book though where some mythical creatures/beings have actual influence on world events. As in "World War II actually started as a vampire family squabble" or "wizards took over the alcohol market and mixed experimental potions with booze. Thus prohibition became necessary to protect the muggles".
Yeah, stuff like that would be neat.
MY CRICUT ARRIVES TODAY. Also my house is cleaner than it has been in probably a few years. Mom and I have been working our asses off to get stuff ready to be moved around to create "Dianne and Emily's House of Craftsâ„¢"
Whoohoo! House of Crafts for everyone!
And all the amazing things you'll be able to do with the cricut... ^^ (hint: we are interested in pictures eventually) |
Ugh, I'm mad because I want to upload a pic of the shawl I finished over the weekend, but I can't because the museum's wifi is turned off and the wifi at Joann is super shitty, so it cuts out a lot and my upload keeps timing out without good wifi. XP
Update: only the main floor and basement wifis are off. Connected to 2nd floor wifi. Finished dragonfly lace shawl! https://i.postimg.cc/zGxr5Z9f/IMG_20...110522_630.jpg |
I love the shawl, Kaderin!
Alsoooo I GOT A BOX! https://i.imgur.com/QWhKEbul.jpg A SHINY BOX! https://i.imgur.com/xTycPshl.jpg WITH STUFF! https://i.imgur.com/Qzr0ORyl.jpg SHINY STUFF! https://i.imgur.com/Xm57RlBl.jpg AND IT FORCED ME TO MAKE THIS! https://i.imgur.com/R5iyzXal.jpg The card was basically like a tutorial for the Cricut. I also cut out a butterfly and cat on adhesive vinyl.which I stuck to a painting then painted over and once it is dry I can try to peel up the vinyl to have a silhouette of the cat/butterfly. I AM EXCITE! |
oh i love it, Damies!
dude, you could make stickers to sell on Etsy.
YEEESSSSS I want to do that xD
Edit: my house has a cozy sitting area now! link to photo what that area used to look like (part of it amyway) |
*flops into the thread*
Hello Nyreen! Hows it going?
Derpy waddles in and curls up in a pile of yarn to nap.
Almost done with your scarf ^^
(yup, it's probably not as neat as anything Kaderin does... but hey - free winter wear!) |
"Kadewin hasn't started my scawf yet..." Derpy glares at Kaderin.
Just spent two hours hand sewing an 11 foot seam on something only to discover I sewed the wrong sides together and have to rip it all out and start again... *soft sobbing*
Ripping out seams is the worst part of sewing possibly worse than stabbing yourself with a needle. ; 0;
Huzzah for scarves for Derpy! AND KADERIN NEEDS TO MAKE DERPY A SCARF SHEESH! Just do the thing! -flails menacingly- I set up some shelves today and about killed myself in the process. 8'D |
Dunno, I actually like ripping out seams. There's something deeply satisfying about a destructive-but-not-really-destructive task. But I nevertheless understand how it sucks to essentially have worked the last few hours for nothing just because you made a stupid error somewhere earlier. They say you learn from mistakes, yet sometimes it would be nice to just learn without them.

Any time I do seam ripping I damage the fabric too cuz I am too rough with it. ; n;
Stop being so rough! XD
I haven't actually done enough sewing to have done much seam ripping yet. But eventually, I'll know that pain. |
I like to get my thread snips in between the fabric pieces and carefully cut threads. Though there are times when using the seam ripper is more satisfying.
I do both versions, depends on how stretchy the fabric and how tight the thread is. Actually ripped a small cut (less than an inch) into the seam of my LARP costume when using a seam ripper, but I suspect the garment will be up to a lot more wear and tear during the next years anyway.

Used my cricut to make a two color decal that I slapped on my mom's yarn organizer case thingy xD
https://i.imgur.com/e42xGPOm.jpg Also used it to cut out a unicorn shape to use to block paint in a fluid painting so I could get two pours layered and it turned out neat! https://i.imgur.com/p1zsHDZm.jpg Also made a mandala shirt with heat transfer vinyl! https://i.imgur.com/iOigvWOm.jpg |
Is that heat transfer thing holographic? o.o
We only have single color heat transfer vinyl with no special effects whatsoever in our local fab lab. *is a little jealous* Cool idea with the unicorn and double pour! |
I think that one is just rainbow striped, not holo (I can't tell for sure though). Although I have seen holo, it's mostly just the vinyl and not the iron-on ones.
Yeah, my first thought was rainbow striped, but the sun does reflect in a certain way that makes me think it's at least glitter effect or something similar.
Definitely some form of glitter/shimmer, but I don't see any rainbows in the visible shimmer that would be indicative of holo. So it's most likely just a rainbow striped glitter one.
Either way, awesome vinyl.
Oh DAMN, nice!
I love how I thought of the scarf theme and I ended up making a cloak... (Made Saturday in like 6 hours lol) |
It's rainbow stripes with a glitter effect that the seller calls holographic but totally is not. xD I also have some foil metallic htv but still not holo. ; n; I need to find some that at least has a color shift even if it's not quite holo. -determined face-
That's a near cloak! I haven't made anything to match the theme since scarves are not my forte, and I have been having a busy month. |
...which reminds me we don't even have a theme for October. Any suggestions? I was thinking along the lines of "Day of the Dead" with its colorful/flowery themes and sugar skulls, since we already had horror last year. But of course we can also repeat spooky stuff, or do something else entirely.
Pumpkin Spiced DEATH
I actually managed to get the tent half-arse done for the weekend.
I need to make a cloak. Like a nice one that actually keeps me warm. It's been cold as heck already. Any word on October's theme? I missed September, but I'm gonna try. Oops, nevermind, just read the post talking about that. Harvest Festival! |
