Yeah, just smaller Maine Coons tend to be misclassified Angoras. The fur texture is just a bit different, and lots of junk. I got a whole lesson when we got Artemis, who is an Angora mix, because apparently they have different health problems.

Another difference between Turkish Angoras and Maine Coons is the shape of their face. Ezra's kitty looks like she doesn't have the typical wedge face of Turkish Angoras.

And then there are the ear tufts that many Coons have. And the PURR.

ZenKitty 04-30-2016 08:25 PM

I've haven't been around a lot of Maine Coons. What makes their purr different, Tam?

Athilea Majiri 04-30-2016 09:17 PM

They have a nice deep rumbly purr. I can hear it clear across the room when he really gets going.

ZenKitty 04-30-2016 09:30 PM

Wow. That's loud. I thought Presto's purr was loud, but we can only hear it about 4 feet away. :P

Athilea Majiri 04-30-2016 09:33 PM

Yeah. I love it. Especially when he's sitting next to me.

ZenKitty 04-30-2016 09:37 PM

I do love it when both my boys are purring. Stereo purrs on the bed will make the bed rumble with the sound. ;-)

Athilea Majiri 04-30-2016 09:38 PM

I can imagine. I don't have but one cat any longer, so I don't get stereo but I still love it.

This is the first time I've had siblings. We adopted them together from the rescue society. They are just like brothers. They will play, then grumble then snuggle with each other. So cute.

Athilea Majiri 04-30-2016 09:42 PM

Yeah, my parents never fixed cats when I was growing up. We couldn't afford it. So we always had a few kittens around the house and they all pretty much interact that way. It's awesome. ^_^

ZenKitty 04-30-2016 09:50 PM

Growing up with a lot of kittens around must have been great fun. We only had one cat that had kittens growing up and we adopted all but one of them out.

Athilea Majiri 04-30-2016 10:27 PM

It was interesting, that's for sure. I've always had cats and dogs. My husband isn't much of a cat fan, but he doesn't mind there being one or two since they make me happy, and he loves Ezra because he's such a big cat that isn't super cuddly like Raza was, but isn't too standoffish either like Bella was.

Maine Coon purr.

And look at this beautiful big scruffy butt!

ZenKitty 04-30-2016 10:48 PM

Great videos. Presto upped the volume of his purring while I was watching it too. So cute!

Athilea Majiri 04-30-2016 10:49 PM

That is a beautiful cat.
