Are they in London for Alice's will reading? And maybe the mother became ill and was unable to make it to the actual reading, ergo she has know idea that Alice has left the grandchild mumentos from Wonderland plus a note or address to the house of the human White Rabbit?

Something keeps the mother from showing up at all. The granddaughter misses the reading because of school. When on a break of some sort (winter,spring, summer?) she travels to London to visit the grave. Thinking that the grandmother that never knew her would never leave her anything. There one of my characters, Iris, mets her and brings her to the home of the white rabbit.

So the mother never appears at all except in the child's memories?

The child would also need some reason to trust Isis, children normally don't just follow strangers to other strangers houses.

The mother never seemed to play a big role. Other then keeping Alice from the granddaughter, and not believing wonderland. I just never saw her really playing a role.

And I think I've got something that would cover the stranger danger thing. but I'm not sure.

Why not have the mother dead then? Alice could have died earlier but because the daughter was still alive Alice's full will wasn't carried out. Now that the daughter of Alice is dead Alice's grand daughter is sent to Isis and the white rabbit?
