Kaderin Triste 10-13-2020 07:59 PM

But you're so close though! XD

trystan830 10-13-2020 08:47 PM

15 books by the end of the year? with NaNo in November? i'm gonna say "no" XD

Kaderin Triste 10-13-2020 08:48 PM

Psshhhh....well not with that attitude.
XD
Lol

trystan830 10-13-2020 08:59 PM

LOL

i mean, i'll probably have a book in my bag that i'm reading.... but i'm not sure how much of it i'll actually read XD

Kaderin Triste 10-14-2020 10:53 AM

Lol. Always bring a book.

Yeah, I don't take stuff with me for my breaks at JoAnn just because I lose track of time too easily, but on my 2 shifts at the museum where I'm at the front desk, I'll bring both a book and a craft project and work on something or read. Because (especially the Tuesday night shift) it's dead. Like....unless someone is a friend of an artist who has an exhibit, is renting a room, or taking a class, no one's going to the art museum during covid.

trystan830 10-14-2020 11:12 AM

i don't take breaks at michael's. i get a 15 because my shifts are like 4 hours... but by the time i get in the back and sit down, i'm not going to want to get back up again. so.... i don't.

but i do stop at fast food places with tables outside for my meals, so i read then. :)

Kaderin Triste 10-14-2020 11:40 AM

I don't get meals, but I do take the breaks because it gives me a chance to buy a water or even eat something because I don't have time to stop and eat an actual meal between my jobs so I can buy a pack of cheese its on my break so I'm less hangry until I can get home and make dinner. And also because they don't let people skip them except by accident when we're busy and they forget.

trystan830 10-14-2020 11:53 AM

if i'm scheduled for a meal, and the shift is long enough, i'll take it. but when we're busy, and i'm only there for 4, 4-1/2 hours, i won't, because then we need to pull someone off another task to cover the register because it's busy. it feels like it's been Black Friday since June.

Kaderin Triste 10-15-2020 02:11 PM

Yeah, here isn't quite at black Friday levels of busy, but we're still busier than normal and frequently understaffed.

trystan830 10-15-2020 02:29 PM

we're finally not all that understaffed - i think we still are friday afternoons though. yeesh. i mean, i know there's a "retail formula" that tells you based on what you made during this week last year, how much your forecast is for this year, and based on that forecast here's now many hours you get for cashiering, and the floor, and framing.... and then the manager has to divide that up throughout the week and the employees, and then we end up with four people (manager, 2 cashiers, framer) in the middle of a friday afternoon and we get a ton of customers.

oh, and it's not always adjusted for the same weeks either. i believe Week 1 is like the first full week in march or something like that. so that if easter one year was early (say, end of march - Week 4) and then late one year (say, mid April - Week 7) they're now comparing Week 4 where there was no sales on that sunday to a day that's open. and in Week 7, you're expected to do $1000 worth of business, but you don't make forecast because you're closed on Easter... yeah. it's messy.

in other book news - i requested a book be purchased last month (pretty sure it was last month), but then i ended up getting a copy of the book....and the library still ordered it. and now it's ready for me to pick it up, so i guess i ought to go "check it out" and then drop it outside in the book drop for them to check back in in another three days XD

Kaderin Triste 10-24-2020 02:17 PM

Finished another book! Only 2 more to go, but now by brain is doing the "but I don't wanna read those books! I wanna read something new!" thing. But I am trying to resist.

Also, dug through my bookshelf the other day and pulled out a bunch of books that I liked when I was younger but don't really care for as much now or that I bought but probably won't re-read and am gonna slowly work on taking them over to a little free library that I always walk by on my way to work.
But I legit pulled out probably 20-30 books, so it's gonna take some time...what with the whole not having a car thing...

trystan830 10-24-2020 07:43 PM

yaay! i'm almost done my current book. which is good, since it's due back at the library on Thursday XD

Kaderin Triste 10-26-2020 02:51 PM

I'm so bad with deadlines, I don't think I could get stuff from the library these days. XD

trystan830 10-26-2020 04:48 PM

i get that. but i finished my book today! *woot!*

Kaderin Triste 10-26-2020 05:37 PM

Yay! More book progress!
XD

I need to slightly update my page counts on current in progress books.

trystan830 10-26-2020 07:15 PM

i have a few forum signatures to update when i finish a book and start another.

i also suspended my holds at the library, since Sunday is November.... and NaNo! \o/

Kaderin Triste 10-26-2020 09:01 PM

Ahhhhh just realized I still need to decide on a Halloween costume for Derpy and make it.
Quick, what's a fast and easy costume?!?
XP

trystan830 10-26-2020 09:07 PM

a witch! we look like everyone else :)

Kaderin Triste 10-26-2020 09:10 PM

Lol true.
Though tbh, I feel like I'd need to at least make him the iconic (stereotypical) hat and mayne a broomstick.

trystan830 10-26-2020 09:24 PM

fair enough. :)

Kaderin Triste 10-30-2020 10:54 AM

Not quite finished, but worked on Derpy's costume yesterday:

trystan830 10-30-2020 06:09 PM

oh that's awesome!

Kaderin Triste 10-30-2020 08:17 PM

Still need to add a stripe of ribbon on the hat and attempt to make a little broom. But I'm pretty pleased with how the hat turned out!

trystan830 10-30-2020 08:31 PM

a little broom sounds adorable!

Kaderin Triste 10-30-2020 08:47 PM

Need to figure out how to attach the straw to a dowel...
Gonna do some tests tonight.

trystan830 10-30-2020 09:48 PM

hot glue sounds good to me?

Kaderin Triste 10-30-2020 09:48 PM

I don't have any hot glue.

trystan830 10-30-2020 10:10 PM

oops.
uhm. regular glue, hold it in place with a string?
magic?

Kaderin Triste 10-30-2020 10:14 PM

Will experiment with a fabric glue I have plus embroidery floss and maybe finished off with a band of ribbon to match what will be on Derpy's hat.
Fingers crossed it works. Still just over an hour until I can get home to test it though.

trystan830 10-30-2020 10:18 PM

well that works too. good luck! keep me/us posted.

(literally) XD

Kaderin Triste 10-30-2020 11:09 PM

Finally getting to go home!

trystan830 10-30-2020 11:24 PM

yaay! that's always good. i close sunday nights, and i hate it i'd rather get out earlier than later XD

Kaderin Triste 10-30-2020 11:39 PM

I usually just have 1 night a week (at the museum) on Tuesdays but we had ghost tours. If they had arrived on time, I would have been out almost half an hour sooner.
But I am home now and Derpy needs his broomstick!

trystan830 10-30-2020 11:51 PM

yaay for ghost tours... but booo for people not being on time! ugh.

Kaderin Triste 10-31-2020 12:09 AM

Wooo! Letting the glue dry on Derpy's broom before adding decorative touches! It's not perfect, but not bad for a quick craft.

trystan830 10-31-2020 12:10 AM

glad it worked out! :D

Kaderin Triste 10-31-2020 02:17 PM

trystan830 10-31-2020 03:50 PM

oh very awesome!

Kaderin Triste 10-31-2020 04:47 PM

Lol. Not half bad for a last-minute costume!
XD

Also I need to not forget to get a couple pics of my costume before I leave work too.

trystan830 10-31-2020 05:37 PM

i have a pic. i need to post it. XD
