That's worlds more than me. I went on a canoe trip down the Pine river as a kid, and my dad had a friend with a boat that used to take us along the coast to see the sea lions congregate each year, and my "uncle" (miscellaneous male not-quite-relative) always has a boat of some kind that we used to go and see the fireworks festival on each year. Summer camp in Ontario I puttered around Lake Joseph on a catamaran, and that was great fun. Now I mostly get to drive a riverboat a little bit when I visit my dad and we actually go out on the river. I did decide to do something water oriented when I was in Denmark, and rented a kayak to mosey about the canals in Copenhagen.

Fun fact: Semi's family sailed around the coast from Texas to New York and back when he was a kid (early teenage years).
Lucid sailed a tiny two-person lakeboat this summer.

I went to UF for a bit, but actually graduated from a place called "Full Sail" in Orlando (that has nothing to do with Sailing), and I live practically next to UCF now.

My parents where near you last week... they were at disney world.... or land which ever is in FL......

And I think I have heard of Full Sail... checking

And I do.... one of my film friends was going to go there but too expensive.

I went to Full Sail for programming stuff...and yeah, it was expensive. ;.; I still owe $40,000 for that.

Meanwhile I live near Disneyland. :P

I had scholarships when I went to UF, but I was a lazy, lazy slacker, so I got booted out and lost all my lovely scholarships.

I'd also gone to school for aerospace engineering: Wanted to work for NASA and stuff. Dodged that bullet.

It would have been...except that NASA fired almost everybody who works for them here.

Yeah, after the Space Shuttle program ended, they laid off almost their entire staff at Cape Canaveral.

Granted, if I'd gone the route I was going when I was at UF, I'd probably still be in the Navy right now.

I had a very large scholarship too, but I still had to take out a ton of student loans... still paying those off. I did have to take an extra semester but that wasn't my fault; my advisor gave me a bad recommendation on when I should take classes and I ended up missing a prerequisite that threw off my entire major program by a semester and I had to drop my Japanese minor because the only teacher for the required Japanese culture class went on sabbatical my senior year.

Ouch.

If I'd finished school at UF, I would have ended up with more money than I'd started. :P I had a full ride from the Navy, and one from the State government. And the Navy gave me a monthly stipend.

But I was stupid.

I'm from Cali. As if that wasn't obvious enough. But then again, I'm not wine-colored for the moment.

Made it through my degree with no student loans! Of course any leeway that would have gained me is gone by my not having worked a real job since.

I've heard many stories about counselors not getting programs right, so I did everything myself and ran it through my school's degree tracker *and* the grad people first. I only actually spoke to a counselor once, in first year, when it was required.

I got stuck for languages since I didn't get the usual French instruction in high school that normally covers the arts degree language requirement. My uni had many, many languages to pick from, including an accelerated Japanese course for students going to Japan on exchange, but most of them were junior level courses (years 1 & 2) and I would have been short on the required level of senior credits to graduate. There were only two senior level languages, those being Danish and Swedish. Although my grandmother was Danish, I valued my sleep entirely too much to get up for the required commute so Swedish it was, not that I know enough to actually hold a conversation beyond basic pleasantries and a drinking song.

*randomly jumps into the conversation* It's my first year and I've already taken out over $10k in loans. D; I've got to pay my own way through with no job and no financial help from family. x.x

Also, I was originally a biology major, but I wanted to drop chemistry with a lab so I wouldn't have chemistry and biology, both with labs. So I changed it to environmental science because I was told I couldn't drop chemistry and stay a biology major but, if I changed it to what I changed it to, I could drop chemistry and stay on track. I changed it. They didn't drop chemistry. I ended up failing it and having to withdraw, only to be told I'm going to need three semesters of it to keep my major. So I'm behind my first year. -.-

Thinking of changing it again to psychology, though.

Computer Science at University of Oklahoma. My original plan was to go for a Technical Writing minor but Japanese ended up being easier... until I COULDN'T get it.

Just talking about schooling, Miz!

I had to take out about 10k of loans over my first two years. Semi's had to borrow money too, but luckily his dad has been the one lending money so we have more leeway on when to start paying it. Unfortunately, his dad keeps track of interest and will make us pay him back to the cent. @_@
But this year, being married an' all, we got full government grants to cover tuition. We just have to make enough to cover rent/food/fun.

BYU offers almost every language. ?O It's mostly for missionaries who go to a foreign country and want to keep up their language skills (or learn more non-religious vocabulary) when they come home. Some of the more common ones have their own majors/minors though.

That's what I'm doing right now (tech writing, not comp science) but since that's all I'm doing it's just a certificate course.

I had a good set up going in to university. My parents let me stay at home for free as long as I was working and *saving* for school or going to school, so it did mean that I got asked how my bank account was doing over dinner but I saved up enough to cover my school and my dad agreed to match whatever I put up so we split the bills 50/50 after taking off whatever I got for my scholarship trust. Going to community college for the first two years instead of a university also halved my potential tuition costs and saved me $10 000, and probably another $7000 in housing costs, which I took some trips abroad with. :).

Ah. Well, I like to think of myself as just another user, but with a blue name. And a few perks. But basically I'm no different than any other user ^^
