I am pasty
These came in one color
Time to contact cosplay friends I know irl about making the ears be less of a different color

Ava 01-19-2020 11:09 PM

When I had my own elf ears, I just used liquid foundation and concealer in my skin tone and I used a little bit of a darker color to accent the folds in the ears. (Sorry, can't think of a better way to explain!)

Kitalpha Hart 01-20-2020 04:35 AM

Considering how massive the skin tone difference between me and the ears are, and the fact that I don't really know makeup, I'm definitely gonna get one of my irl cosplaying friends to help me with this

+1 to recommendation of using makeup to cover up the base color of the ear / blend in with natural skin tone.

Witchchylde 02-02-2020 01:34 PM

I think I would airbrush those first in a flat white to diffuse the main color, then use a pale rose pink to accent, and possibly faint lavender lines for vein tracery.

Espy 02-03-2020 11:08 PM

So, I don’t have any experience w airbrushing or makeup, but I know a couple things about skintones. Here’s what I would do, in theory; in practice, I have no idea if this would work.

1.) cover the whole thing in matte white primer
2.) cover the whole thing again in a very pale slightly yellow-ish peach; this should be as close as possible to your base undertone, the parts that aren’t rosy. For me, my thighs are the best option for finding a relatively large swath of undertone.
3.) airbrush patchy light pinks in multiple layers to mimic skin texture; use your own skin, esp your ears, as a guideline.
4.) add a tiny bit of lavender, also in layers, to parts that are more shadowed.

This is the wreath I made for my Slytherin dad for Christmas a couple years ago. :] He was really happy about it and told me he loves the way it looks. ^-^

You can't really see the snake in the wreath tho, unfortunately. <:/ I'd have to get a close up pic of it, since I painted it green and black. But he put it away in a bin for the year until Christmas comes around again, so these are the only pics for the moment. <x/

(That snake skin on the wall is from his neighbor in Arizona btw, and it was from a Mojave Green Rattlesnake...just uh fyi.)

Kaderin Triste 02-04-2020 10:55 PM

Looks really cool, Mer! Though tbh, I would have probably pegged it more as generally a woodsy wreath rather than Slytherin specifically... ;>.>

Merskelly Metalien 02-05-2020 12:07 AM

Thanks. :]
Yeh, I think my dad really pays more attention to woodsy, rustic, country sort of décor, so his is much more nature oriented. ^-^
Wish I could show the snake, and the Slytherin pin on the green ribbon in the back tho. :/

This year's pictures of the weird cake I made for my brother's 20th birthday. <x}
It's actually not that weird. In fact, it makes a lot of sense by my understanding of radioactive spiders, yellow cake uranium, spiderman being who he is thanks to strange nuclear spider experiments...and spiderman being my brother's favorite marvel superhero. :]
Happy Birthday Bro! ^-^ I hope he likes it! It's vanilla frosting and the inside is confetti. xD

Derpy McBlueEyes 03-25-2020 10:27 PM

Derpy clings to your ankle. "Can I have cake pwease?"

Ava 03-26-2020 05:50 PM

!!!!

Oh my X’hal! That cake is so badass!!

Merskelly Metalien 03-26-2020 07:12 PM

@ Derpy: <x] You can have a little slice with a gummy bear on it Derpy!

@ Ava: <x'D Thank you hahaha! I made sure that Spiderman, lord of spiders, sat right in the middle of the radiation spot(light!)

Merskelly Metalien 04-10-2020 06:53 PM

Don't know why. I'm just getting into JoJo, and it's my brother's fault. So I made him a chibi paper child of Joseph Joestar to put on the bedroom door. x3

Merskelly Metalien 04-13-2020 04:09 PM

Here's my blanket fort/pillow fort, little cozy space in the living room. x}
Complete with owl sheets, a CRT TV (yes with a Raichu sticker on it x'D), video cassettes, video games and my mermaid tail blanket!

Oh, also my owl pillow and a nice pile of some of my books.

I got an owl blanket doormat for kneeling comfort upon entering, and a fancy lookin' shell quilt carpet.~

And here I am in my pa-jammies. Yes, those are Minecraft bedsheets above the owl bedsheets. xD

Bonus:
Can anyone guess this movie I found? ;w;

trystan830 04-13-2020 04:14 PM

awesome blanket fort, merskelly!

Merskelly Metalien 04-13-2020 04:20 PM

:D Thank you! I made it late at night tho I didn't sleep in it.
<u< I surprised my mom hadn't noticed until later this morning that it was here, hehe.

trystan830 04-13-2020 04:24 PM

you're welcome!

it's okay, younger daughter trimmed her hair last week (okay, she cut off like 3") and i didn't notice it until yesterday... XD

Merskelly Metalien 04-13-2020 04:27 PM

>w> Thought about trimming my own hair like PIXIE short, but everyone would immediately notice that. x'D
Instead, I think I'll just try the temporary dye on it for a little while.

trystan830 04-13-2020 04:29 PM

i trim my hair all the time - at least the hair that falls over my eyes. i used to have short bangs, now they're long and go into my actual hair when i want them too.

i might re-purple my hair tomorrow.

Kaderin Triste 04-13-2020 10:11 PM

Ah, I kinda want to dye my hair now!
Unfortunately, I only have 1 bleach kit (which will only get my dark hair to a goldey orangey yellow) and the only actual colors I have are lime green and purple. Which aren't really great colors on me and also are colors that wash out of my hair really fast.
Pinks and reds last, purples and greens wash out fast, and I haven't tried enough blues to know how they work.

To be fair, your kids are old enough that they can probably pull it off without butchering it.

trystan830 04-13-2020 10:24 PM

this is the dye i use.... i really like it!

true! my "kids" are 18 (19 in June!) and 22... so yep! and her hair looks nice and even, too.

Kaderin Triste 04-13-2020 10:41 PM

That's a pretty color. Unfortunately, I'm betting it's not really that vibrant on dark hair, despite the model on the front having dark colored eyebrows.
I'm betting if it has one of those handy "color swatch on different hair colors" images on the side of the box, the dark brown hair looks more of a dark plum color instead of the vibrant purple.

Merskelly Metalien 04-13-2020 11:00 PM

Despite blue being my favorite color, <xD I've not had my hair dyed blue yet, lol!

trystan830 04-13-2020 11:04 PM

well, it does look vibrant on my grey! XD

the funny thing is, people have told me my hair looks "natural" when it's purple. at first, i was kinda confused, since purple is anything but natural. but then, one day back in like October, i think it was, one of the regular girls at our fellowship service had pink hair (dyed blonde first, then the pink), and my initial reaction was that it looked like she was wearing a wig.... and that's when i realised my purple doesn't look like a wig, it looks like it's actually my hair. :D

and I'm pretty sure it has the color swatches on the side, but whatever they are, i like what it does on my hair. :)

go for it! I've had blue hair too. :)

Kaderin Triste 04-13-2020 11:37 PM

The problem with most bright color dyes is that they can look really fake if you're unlucky and have dark hair (basically if you have to bleach your hair and do it properly to a pale blonde/nearly white base) unless you manage to mimic natural highlights and lowlights in the bleaching process, it's gonna look like a wig.
90% of the time I was too impatient to do multiple bleachings, so I'd bleach once then dye. Which on the downside, meant that I nevwr got to do cool pastel colors, but on the plus side, my dyed hair still had some highlights and lowlights in it.

My hair has been many colors, but typically hot pink, raspberry, purple, and teal are my main colors that I've done.
My favorite hair dye job was actually a pink/teal/purple gradient. Unfortunately, my job at the time was less thrilled with it and basically said I either had to dye it a "natural" color or I'd be fired, so I picked up a box of black dye. And it ended up turning a navy blue color. But that was "less extreme" and therefore was acceptable.
And then when that job was closing down and everyone was getting laid off, I decided to do a sort of peacock-esque purple, teal, and green dye gradient for my last week there. That was when I really noticed that green is not a good color for me and washes out FAST in my hair. Like it really was only good for maybe a week and a half.
I've also done a dark purple color that kind of had a color shift to it. In some light it looked purple and in other light it looked blue.

I should really try to dig up old pics of me with dyed hair (oh oh and that was when I still had snakebites too!).

trystan830 04-13-2020 11:41 PM

yep, i used to do the bleach bit first, then the color. some time ago, i just stopped with the bleach. the color takes to my grey sometimes, and this is a good color that does, and doesn't wash out or fade two weeks later. :)

Kaderin Triste 04-14-2020 12:05 AM

Oh my gosh, my first few phones had absolute garbage cameras!
Either way, here are the fun dyed hair I've had before (the ones I could find pics of anyway...)
Please ignore the poor quality images.

My fave gradient

What it became when work forced me to dye it

These pics are actually the same color in different lighting

This was my "what are they gonna do, fire me? 8P" hair color(s)

trystan830 04-14-2020 11:26 AM

oooh, very nice! :)

i have pics on my Instagram. but Instagram changed their source code, and now i don't know which is the link to the actual picture. so...

wait, lemme see what's in my imgur

this was from November, about a month after i did the purple. the cut is still the same, the purple is a bit faded.

Merskelly Metalien 04-14-2020 06:53 PM

Love those gradients Kaderin! :D
They remind me of exotic bird feathers. -u- <3

And lovely hair Trystan. :D A witchy, magical lavender. ^-^

trystan830 04-14-2020 07:14 PM

thanks Merskelly!

Very lovely and love the lip piercings. I remember my work never cared what colour we came in with hair - I had cherry coloured and a very bright auburn, only thing the manager had issue with was piercings. I wasn't brave enough back then to get anything but my ears pierced, lol. I ended up with nine piercings before moving - most were gifts from my parents but the last one I purchased myself.

Me and mum had arguments over getting a nose piercing, in the end, I went and just got it done. I think she enjoys shopping for nose rings just as much as I do through I know she won't get it done herself. Eventually I will get the snakebite piercings cause I love those so much, know a person who does piercings who will give me a deal but have to wait till I can afford my own place or get roommates before I can get them through pretty sure mum can't really stop me - only thing she could do is throw me out and my friend has already said I can stay with him if that happens.

Eventually I do plan to use a sea green dye in my hair, have the dye but planning to cut my hair for the summer.

Very nice setup, love the fort and the mermaid tail blanket looks very cozy, had looked at getting one but all I could find was children sizes and the title screen looks like Sleeping Beauty from the photo you posted. not too sure cause haven't watched the older Disney classics in years, use to own all of them but now I usually watch horror movies. XD
