Double post, but are we getting any new tech?
|
If you have ideas for anything, just let me know, we can fit almost anything in, there's definitely room for more kinds of items. I'm considering giving my new character subdermal theurgic flamethrowers in either forearm >_>
Possibly a psychic aim-botting neural interface contact lens, too <_< Sky's the limit, really. |
I was thinking about gloves that can disrupt/scramble electric of psychic pulses upon touch. Not sure if that'd just be subdermal circuitry, because Dante doesn't have that level of ability in terms psychic-y stuff yet, or like and actual gauntlet. I plan on giving him one of those thermal insulating mesh things, so I'm not sure if that'd affected how I design a gauntlet.
Psychic aim-botting...neural...interface contact lens? -confused- That does remind me, though, I should probably do something with Dante's sight or lack thereof. |
He could definitely get something like that. I can just picture some overblown psychic getting totally blindsided as Dante grabs him by the throat and all the sudden his powers are totally shut off (and any high tech gear he happens to be wearing). Now you just need some kind of cloaking to block precog so he can get close enough to do that. :P (bonus points if it's actually a cloak)
And basically, said lens would interface with the psychic patterns of the brain to allow one to "aim" without using their eyes, bestowing more or less perfect accuracy (range dependent on psychic ability obviously), including stuff like shooting from behind cover, at all angles front/back/up/down with nearly instant reflexes, or even whilst ridiculous battlefield acrobatics if one were so inclined. :P As a balancing factor, I think their guns would need to have some kind of special psychic receiver to function properly with it, the kind of thing that if it gets damaged and there isn't an artificer nearby.... |

Speaking of guns, I just remembered that Dante has the one he acquired some time ago that had power bearing some resemblance to Shealtiel's? |
Hmmmmm.... it's been so long I can't remember that well. We got two guns from the Phillipi encounter, I believe, Michael got one from the artificer guy that could channel the wielder's psychic power to increase the damage its bullets dealt and hurt incorporeal creatures. Then the priest had the golden revolver he was hiding in his ridiculous smuggler's Gospel that presumably was consecrated, letting it deal normal damage to demons and undead (especially useful against Dybbuk since it would get around having to totally dismember them to take them down.)
Was it one of those? I can't think of any others we found, but maybe my memory's failing me. Either way, since we're rebooting, we can edit the details a little in cases like that if you have something else you'd like. |
Wait, who's Michael again? And what type of creature/evil thing is he? o3o
|
Michael was one of the character in the group when we first started. Not sure how I implied he was evil, but sorry for the confusion.
I always was a little bit disappointed with him just for the fact that he was an artificer yet never made a single new piece of gear or tried to enhance anything we had. That's kind of their *thing* |
Ooooh. What happened to the person who played him? Is there any way for them to return? :o
|
He seemed like he was leaving for good, so I rather doubt that. Plus, after he left, Michael sort of got his his skull squashed like a melon during Cain's psychic hurricane in the Basilica. >_>
Also, random but I can totally see the Artificers having a secret elite force of hideously augmented cyborg soldiers, possibly even with squad-level neural collusion. |
Yeah, that definitely sounds like he won't be returning. I don't think anyone can still live after having their skull obliterated by Cain, or can they?
|
In this setting? Are you kidding? :P
I'd imagine for a "normal" person like he was (no especially strong psychic or spiritual ability), the soul would wither pretty quickly, making resurrection highly unlikely. But for someone with a stronger astral presence, death might not even be much of a barrier (i.e. unless someone hit Shealtiel with a soul-destroying attack, he was always going to come back as a wraith and more powerful than ever, it was just a matter of time. I imagine peak Na'lsa would have been even harder to put down with his Alex Mercer type levels of both physical and spiritual durability.) But yeah, resurrection can be done since the barriers between the planes are so weak, it just works better on more powerful souls. So unless someone in the group is on-hand to perform an immediate resurrection, most of us would be out of luck. |

Wonderful. Now I really can't wait to see how everyone's redeveloped characters are gonna fair against the next big thing we face. Though I'm not sure if it's a good thing that I'm looking forward to the bloodbath a little too eagerly. >3>
Wait, who's Gabe? o3o |
Well, technically any body would do if the soul was intact enough, see the Dybbuk which are just deteriorated souls possessing whatever happens to be at hand. (Oh god, can you imagine a swarm of Dybbuk-possessed flies being directed by an Emim? They'd be all flying into people's mouths and suffocating them and god only knows what other horrors...)
HOW HAS HUMANITY NOT GONE EXTINCT AGAIN?????? ...oh yeah, psyko-spiritual-cyber tech and there's always the nuke satellite when everything else fails.... |
Gabe's Dante's younger brother who died and whose body got taken by a Dybbuk. And effect Dante had to kill him ("again" in his mind; long story).
I've also figured out a less cliche real name for Dante, because seriously, I /sucked/ at naming characters back then. And it plays on his Brazilian ancestry (which I chose because that was one of the two or three options I had given his weird combination of skin tone/original hair color/eye color). I'll add those in later, but his middle name's still Dante, so its all good. Too many deus ex machinas, seriously. At least we haven't pulled as many as some certain storylines. |
Aw, and Shealtiel used to so enjoy teasing him with calling him Lucifer. :P
Oh well, I have a feeling my new guy isn't going to be quite as verbose as the old man was. He might even have a vow of silence... Also, totally stealing Mithaias' kevlar and ceramic-plated priest robes for this guy.... |
Well, it'd depend on who's yelling at him. His mom would probably use "Lucas"; his dad would probably say "Lucifer", and Gabe would just look at him with puppy eyes and whisper "Luuuuuke? Can you get me a cookie?"
They ARE cognates. Kevlar and priest robes seem to be a strange combo, no...? And hm, vow of silence. This might be interesting, if it does happen. (I've a character who's actually mute, and it's great practice having to figure out how to make him express himself.) |
My biggest issue is I can't decide if I want to play a psychic or a theurge. I'm leaning towards psychic, who happens to have been a man of the cloth pre-Eschaton and has wound up working under Zaccheus (and was probably experimented on by Zaccheus' artificers). Still mulling the concept over, really.
I guess I'm asking if it makes sense to play a religiously motivated character who is a psychic talent rather than a spiritual magus? |
Depends, I guess...?Speaking of which, those classes need to be changed a bit, unless you're making a new system.

So what's Dante's new first name going to be? I'm kinda curious now. >3> |
Well, his full name used to be Lucifer Dante Ka'an, which led to teasing by Shealtiel about Lucifer as referring to the most brilliant angel or the fallen one.
Lucas Dante Cabral was the less cliche one I've been messing around with, and "Dante" kind of works on the grounds that "Cabral" can be both a Spanish/Portuguese surname as well as an Italian one, and Lucas is just a cognate of Lucifer. I'm not entirely sure how names are going to work; I don't plan on fully discarding the original one. I guess his birth name could be the new one. |
What do you needs to be changed, Espy? (not that I don't agree, just wondering what your thoughts were.) I assume you mean in terms of balance between them?
|
I'm actually thinking of, instead of doing classes, just having a bunch of categories that each character has a certain rating or proficiency in. Something like
Spiritual Presence: Psychic Presence: Combat Fitness: Arcane Knowledge: Mechanical Aptitude: Other: And you could list what particular traits each character has under each category, just for an example I imagine Lev's Combat Fitness would read something like: High, average reflexes, above average strength, superhuman durability. More something just to give us each a general idea on where all of our characters stand than any sort of hard and fast "rules". I think: Deficient, Poor, Moderate, High, and Extreme would work easily enough for the ratings. And the Other category would be listing any other noteworthy skills or abilities they have like driving, hunting/survival, medical training, etc. Does this sound workable or overly complicated? I'd just to like to a quick reference to everyone's abilities rather than having to read through their full bios to dig up info. |
It definitely sounds doable. I wouldn't mind having to do this for Ei'lycia either.

...for those odd times when some psychotic possessed cannibal takes a chunk out of your shoulder? Like THAT would ever happen....
|
o3o How many times has Dante had a bite taken out of him?
|
I lost count, but I know it was more than once. :P
|
Uh...Actually bitten once (it took a chunk out of his arm, which really shouldn't be functional anymore if Water of Eden didn't exist, but he still has a scar), slapped in the face three times, once with the pointy "side" of Lev's hand (also left a scar because Dante couldn't be bother to put Water on that), got the flesh under his eyes gouged into once, and nearly got bitten a second time.
|
o3o Poor Dante.
Hm, maybe he's secretly a masochist? :P |
Well, he does mentally beat himself up a lot.
|
Aha! So he secretly is a masochist. I knew it!
*pets him* Masochists are kind of cool. Actually I think I'm a semi-masochist. >3> |
New thread is up, I suggest we take further discussion over there. :)
