Button/Badge/Pin (first post edit)
I'm gonna stat making what I'd always called "buttons" but some people call pins or badges.
Basically the circular things you pin on your shirt or bags or whatever that say witty things or have images on them. I plan to sell some of them and see if I can't get some sort of money headed my way even if only a piddly amount. xD So what type of things do you think people want to see on buttons? I was considering doing pokémon badges to start with.... --- Edit: I've learned a phrase for them that everyone seems to understand: Pin-Back Buttons! xD Anyway, mom is really pushing for the button making as a business. xD And I have, after looking at the cost of supplies and the tools, decided to sell them for $1.75 USD per 2-1/4 inch button and when I get them $1.00 USD for the 1-1/4 inch size. :3 |
I always called the round ones buttons oxo
would you be willing to make custom ones? :3 |
If someone provided me an image/told me what to make yeah I don't see why I couldn't make custom ones. :3
Edit: and the tool I ordered to make them will arrive on the 9th-ish. |
=o so I could draw a little Chibi art and ask for it to be turned into a button? how much you charge *u*
That's another thing, I dunno how much to charge. xD
I saw someone have those on some headphones, it looked so cool but before I could get them they were all sold out. Maybe you can do the same and make some nice money.
Oh, and let me know so I can get in line! 0w0 |
ouo yea when you figure out let dk know ^-^
So based on supplied for making the buttons and printer ink... I'd probably ask 2.00-/+ for a two and a fourth inch button.
*u* ima try to save my pennies then!
GYM BADGES! 8D so cool
Heh yeah...
I've sold one and a quarter inch buttons before. I used to do custom ones where I'd write people's names in Japanese. Sold them for a dollar each. I sold about 200 at the first con I tried it but as the con got busier I actually did less business since I had more competition ^_^*
In my experience people do buy more small buttons, since there are plenty of people who collect them and put tons and tons of them on their bags. Also, you want to make sure you're drawing your images yourself. I can't really tell from the picture if you did or not, but I've run into people using screenshots and such that they just printed out and slapped onto a button, and that's pretty sketchy since it isn't your own art. ...anyway, that turned into a long ramble XD |
The buttons I have made as my test buttons were things I pasted together from parts on the interbutts. Since I was testing out my maker and print qualities I didn't wanna put too much effort into it. xD
But when I start selling I'm wanting to do my own art as much as possible. But I'd need a tablet for my own art to be "uniform" and I don't have one yet. Mom is getting me one for christmas, though. Also wanna start pixeling stuffs. xD |

Can ye tell the print quality difference on these? |
so dude, i really discourage you from stealing art off the internet to make buttons, i realize that despite it being illegal nintendo/gamefreaks doesn't enforce small-scale sale of hand-made pokemon merchandise they do sue for outright theft so don't use things you did not draw yourself and try and sell it, that is copyright infringement as well as morally quite slimy
I'm NOT going to sell what I have posted so far, they are test prints. >.<

though i did have a question, where did you get your machine? i used to buy buttons all of the time before the place i got them from closed down and the idea of making a zillion buttons out of fabric remnants excites me(ebay was very unhelpful though) |
I didn't mean to imply I'd be stealing random crap off the internet. >.< Bad choice of words was bad. Sorry.
There are a few different places but mine is badge-a-minit brand. However i found out after buying it they use a non standard size for their pin parts. So you may want to get a different brand so you can get cheaper parts. www.americanbuttonmachines.com is a site I am getting button parts from since they are cheaper then Badge-a-minit "official" parts. |
oh hey XD i am on that site now in another tab hahaha
Heh nice. xD
I'm currently trying to pixel my own versions of the badges... failing sooo bad.... xD I wanna draw them not pixel them. :C |
then draw it on paper and use that, it also makes them 'unique'
/whines
That means digging out my scanner.... which is buried under various junk. xD /lazyface |
i mean draw it, cut it out and press it XD
Oh gad if I drew one out for every button I made... I'd die from ODing on pain killers due to my arthritis. xD
pffft XD lazy, do it the hard way like i do
also what did your press cost? they all are so expensive |
That's the only advantage to Badge-a-minit, their presses are much cheaper.
www.badgeaminit.com I got the starter kit and am gonna get the 1.25 rings and supplies later. |
that presses all sizes?
It pressed the 1.25 and the 2.25. You need a bigger/different/whatever press to do 3 inch buttons.
i want to make 1inch buttons, for fabric XD
Badge a minit, as far as I know, won't do fabric... >.<
But fabric buttons would be cool to do. > 3> |
could sweetie try? on a very thin cotton? if it works you can charge 2 dollars easy and fabric is free everywhere if you look(also i will know if i can buy one XD)
I can try, but I don't have pin parts right now. >.<
just the face dear, the back is not so important XD
Well I'd need the front part to see if it would press together right and I has none...
ah, no parts at all, gotcha
Ordered my parts and they should arrive before Friday. x3
And now to go to sleep. xD |
I also have a button maker. I should get on that.
