Hostess shutting down.

So, with the workers going on strike, the company decided to actually close down it's doors for good. This is like a part of my childhood dying.

Discuss the trauma, favorite hostess snacks and plans to horde up on them like it's a nuclear holocaust.

Me? I'm going today and stocking up on Strudel cakes, Twinkies, and those Apple Fruit Pie things.

Poggio 11-16-2012 12:49 PM

NO!
T^T no other company makes those orange cream cupcakes. Those are the only hostess product that I will eat since I don't like twinkies.

Pathosis 11-16-2012 12:59 PM

That's horrible. D:
I wasn't horribly exposed to Hostess products growing up.
But I did like those chocolate cupcake things with the white squiggle on the top.
I forget what those were called.
><

Echo-chan713 11-16-2012 01:13 PM

I will miss those twinkees :(

Now this song will be playing as they depart from my life :(

Daigotsu 11-16-2012 05:14 PM

I went out and stocked up on snack cakes. Most stores are sold out of twinkies by now, but I snagged a few packs.

I was also interview for the newspaper at the Hostess store. XD

Tiva 11-16-2012 05:18 PM

...... holly hell.... *goes to cry in a corner* I probably should go to walmart and get some stuff....

Demonskid 11-16-2012 05:24 PM

OnO no more Ho-ohs ;-; dk is gonna go cry now

Awishwee 11-16-2012 06:49 PM

:U ..... *runs to the store to see if there are any left*

Ginger 11-16-2012 08:17 PM

I'm gonna miss Ding Dongs :c

littl3chocobo 11-16-2012 08:17 PM

theye were out of nearly everything but i was told there is one more shipment going out, no idea who is getting it, i got 15 dollars worth of cupcakes XD five boxes and more than i have eaten in my life so far, i also tried a strawberry one, it is a shame, they are yummy

Quiet Man Cometh 11-16-2012 09:41 PM

Given the health kick that's running through North America lately, this doesn't surprise me. Maybe some other company will pick up the recipes from Hostess so some stuff might make a return later.

Be optimistic, right?

littl3chocobo 11-16-2012 09:43 PM

most likely, i would not doubt is little debbie ate up the brand

Batty 11-16-2012 10:50 PM

I think its HILARIOUS. I do however, feel bad for those Zombie Apocalypse/end of the world believers who think Twinkies are the only thing that'll make it.

And, uh.. You guys DO know theres still Lil Debbie, right? They make the SAME shit, just better quality, from what I hear.

littl3chocobo 11-16-2012 10:56 PM

little debbie does /not/ make the same things, like half of it is hostess exclusive like the rolls and the donuts and the marshmallow balls and shit, and it depends, i have had both and some things hostess does better some not

Batty 11-16-2012 11:06 PM

Hostess does cupcakes. Lil Debbie, does cupcakes. Hostess does pies, Lil Debbies does pies. Either way, I think this whole thing is ridiculous. Its a SNACK COMPANY, its not a national crisis. But thats my opinion. I'd rather BAKE my own things, than spend countless dollars that don't come by like flies on shit on things like that. I know my mom though, will severely have a Susie Q's withdrawal after all of this is over. xD; Those, and the Orange Cupcakes were her downfall. -shakes head-

But I guess you gotta understand, I'm not into that kind of food. So I don't see the big deal. xD;

littl3chocobo 11-16-2012 11:09 PM

yeah, batty does not understand it, it is as much the death of the childhood for the last four generations of snack-cake eating americans as anythi gn, we are losing a brand, like if coke or pepsi left

Yokuutsu 11-16-2012 11:12 PM

Wal-Mart makes pies, and so does my aunt. Guess what? They're different.

Which personally, I like Little Debbie more, but their cakes are not the same. They taste different just like Coke and Pepsi do...enough to know the difference, but not so much you're gonna freak out if someone gives you the other one.

And I've never seen one of those snoballs coconut like things from Little Debbie.

But Hostess is selling everything to the highest bidder. I want to know if that includes "recipes" so people can chill out and eat whatever brand they will be.

I can't believe people would rather strike and lose their job instead of just realizing they have it good by just having a job period. They're all (except those who went back to try and keep the place running) idiots...and I don't think they should get unemployment since they knew exactly what was going to happen. Hostess told them...either they come back or they close because they can't do this, but they got greedy thinking since they're unionized and it's bad times, Hostess will just give them whatever they want so they can go back to trying to make a profit.

Batty 11-16-2012 11:12 PM

<.<;; I don't drink Soda, either. xD!!

BUT! I do drink some of the products that pepsi makes, so, I guess I WOULD be upset if like, they stopped making Monster, [I think thats sponsered by pepsi.. I'm not even sure xD] or Desani/MiO water drop thingers and stuff like that.

EDIT: And hayyy! I'm not trying to start a war or anything, I'm just pointing out its not my thang, so, I'm not really affected by it.

Yokuutsu 11-16-2012 11:16 PM

I think Monster is Coke? Or their own company...maybe bought by another? I'm not sure.

And Dasani is Coke. -just letting you know- But the flavored stuff for water is made by all different companies.

Batty 11-16-2012 11:20 PM

Yeah, those are my addictions. xD; I don't have an issue drinking plain water, but, the water enhancers are the bomb! I like making my own little concoctions outta em <3 Orange Lemonade, Strawberry Watermelon Lemonade, and Peach Mango Raspberry are all really yummy :3

And Dasani just came out with their own stuff, too. The only one I've tried of that, is the Pina Colada. -foams at the mouth-

littl3chocobo 11-16-2012 11:27 PM

well think of it in a different way, gaia and trisphee are both avi sites and have many of the same services and some of the same users, if trisphee closed down would you be upset because the site that you call 'yours' closed or would you just switch over to gaia and be ok with it? /that/ is what i am talking about, there are small things that make it different and even the parts that are mostly the same dont give the same rush. one grows to favor certain things like avi sites and cupcakes

and it is hanson natural that makes that god-awful peace-tea my sister likes

Poggio 11-16-2012 11:30 PM

Batty for the record, Little Debbie does not make the orange cupcakes that I like. It is not the same thing as a Zebra cake or any of the other products that Little Debbie makes. I think what you are missing is that, the twinkie is as iconic as the golden arches and there are other repercussions besides the fact that Americans can not get snack cakes. Factories provide jobs. No one has thought about how many people are being laid off because of the bakers union. Instead of getting paid anything, now those jobs will not be available at all. This is not something this country needs.

Edit: Cho... XD my teacher did the logo for peace tea and has now been made rich because of its marketing.

littl3chocobo 11-16-2012 11:37 PM

pfffft XD fair enough but the stuff still tastes bad

Yokuutsu 11-16-2012 11:43 PM

Peace Tea is delicious. The Lemon Sweet Tea and the Green Tea <3

Poggio 11-16-2012 11:46 PM

I am more of the Arizona tea person and fuze.

Yokuutsu 11-16-2012 11:48 PM

Arizona is good too-I like their Green Tea too XD

Quiet Man Cometh 11-16-2012 11:49 PM

I think that's going a big excessive, but I guess I can understand some it of it that way. I rarely ate anything Hostess though. I had a weakness for Swiss rolls when I was little but I'm not sure what brand they were. I think several different people made them, or things like them.

(EDIT: I hate it when I post without noticing that there's another page of responses to look through so my answer looks funny. Was referring to the death of childhood things with the company closing.)

littl3chocobo 11-16-2012 11:53 PM

well either way it does not matter, i am going to scrounge up my change and go to every flippin' convinence store in town to buy a package of snowballs and tomorrow i am going to have one last one with my father, i already called him and everything

but sweetie, what would you call the loss of something you enjoyed as a child but never really were grateful for? something that made you happy

Ashy 11-16-2012 11:57 PM

there are other companies that make the products, doing a quick google(we dont have that company here) we have the same stuff just done by different people and they taste good

Not sure, but things change, otherwise we wouldn't have stories of "back in the day..." I've kept the odd souvenirs of such things I suppose. I can't really think of any real things that defined my childhood in such ways that haven't already changed beyond what they used to be. McDonald's for example.

Poggio 11-17-2012 12:06 AM

So I just learned that twinkies are going on Ebay for 100 dollars.
Cho you might want to keep some of those cupcakes to sell xD.

littl3chocobo 11-17-2012 12:40 AM

XD so i should have got a second sno-ball? hahahahaha

but there, i can let hostess die for me at least, a half-dozen convenience-stores the local gracery a dollar general and walmart but i got one, sadly it is plain (did you know they sell orange ones?)

MacSen191 11-18-2012 10:53 AM

I don't eat much sweets but I loved the mini muffins, the pies, and the Ding Dongs. Oh now I just made myself want Ding Dongs and I doubt there are any left anywhere. Oh well, I don't need it anyway.

Asami 11-18-2012 04:34 PM

You know, I feel bad for future generations because they will never know what a twinkie or any of the other hostess sweets taste like or possibly what they even are. I know TONS of books that reference them and I bet someone who reads them in the future wont know what it is unless they look it up ): sadly...

I mean I never was the biggest fan of them but man I did like them a bit.

littl3chocobo 11-18-2012 04:36 PM

....you know what just occurred to me? that the joke 'twinkies and roaches will be the only thing left after a nuclear holocaust' will no longer be repeatable XD

Saiyouri 11-18-2012 04:47 PM

I plan on buying as much Hostess items as I can afford when I get to shopping this week. ; ; I can't believe they would close down either. It's like the world is coming to a end. I know exergration. LOL But it's really saddening that this happened. ; ;

littl3chocobo 11-18-2012 04:48 PM

there wont be any, walmart was nearly out of all hostess snacks a few days ago as are the convenience stores and groceries, and we have a /lot/ of food places that sell the stuff

Saiyouri 11-18-2012 04:56 PM

I hope me living in the middle of no where will work in my favor. People here are too good for those kinds of snacks. So I have hope there will be some. I know my local gas station has some left. They only get truckers to stop by and those guys only get gas and coffee lol.

littl3chocobo 11-18-2012 04:58 PM

well good luck with it dear and hope something other than twinkies and ho-hos get the go-ahead to be sold

Yokuutsu 11-18-2012 06:14 PM

I hate to say this, but Hostess is selling its brands off which means someone can buy twinkies (and probably the recipe too...since who else is gonna make it?) and keep on making them. Which means for awhile there may be none, but they'll come back under another company probably.
