Being Poor

Not sure if this belong here or not but it is pretty much related to Trisphee as well. I'm not trying to advertise or anything because I do not like Gaia. So I decided to check back there and OH MY GAWD the feeling of being poor! I can't stand it one bit, it is crazy how having money and not having money make a huge different on avatar sites like this.

So many items and not able to afford pretty much 99% of the stuff is just crazy. Stuff just cost way too much that you can't even afford it even in a million years. Not only that but people look down at you or don't even notice you at all because you don't have anything good on your avatar. I'm not that poor but I like to dress poor on there. I do not like it one bit! Rich people think they're the shiz and stuff.

My little Panda butt haven't been poor well since Gaia which was in 2007. That's because I never knew about avatar sites before and that site was already inflating like crazy. I joined many sites and all of them I always have everything and more but I always open a charity to help people out or just give people stuff here and there. All of these are the reasons why I like site like Trisphee. Why? Because people actually talk to you and get to know who you are and items aren't inflating like they're on crack. It is smaller, which make it easier to be connected to everyone. Going back to Gaia made me appreciate site like this even more. People don't look down on other because they aren't rich and people are much more nice and friendly.

i hear ya.
i remember i had to save up for months just to get a common i wanted on gaia OTL wich made me quit the site all together.
im glad i was introduced to trisphee

Rem 03-01-2013 02:01 PM

I will say there's less MEGA RICH and MEGA POOR on Trisphee, the majority of us are in the same general boat, I think...at the very least it's not outrageously outrageous like on other sites. Probably helps that it's pretty easy to earn currency here long as you keep active and post
Not like on other sites where you earn like...15 g at the most per post and it's based on how much you post so you really only average like 8 gold
That's
so
tedious

Nexess 03-01-2013 02:15 PM

-slurps on energy drink- I'm sorta rich on gaia, I've got fancy items and like 3-4million gold. But I hate the site cause it's so over populated I can never find good people to talk to, mostly cause they hide in guilds.

I much prefer Tris or Zan. Small but with a well established community who welcomes everyone. I mean when newbies start on here now they basically get a whole event set from other users, cause we're actually nice and don't want the poor buggers to be naked.

Rem 03-01-2013 02:24 PM

Also we have a lot of Luna Plena for haple--err I mean lucky newbies
a whole lot
And while we're at it pls do enjoy this Prayer Vessel
or two
or five

:s-awesome:

Areishia 03-01-2013 02:35 PM

Gaia's more of a gaming site then a forum site when it comes to earning gold (though they have nerfed/capped they're two main gold earning games). If you only post there, you'll struggle, but if you play Booty Grab or zOMG you'll get gold a lot faster, especially if you're at least lvl 10.0 with all your buffs, the right attack rings, wish and meat at 10.0 in zomg and smob (3 smob runs = 49k+ gold and the whole thing takes around 40-45 minutes or so in a good crew, or even less if you find a crew that can finish it in 10 minutes).

But I can see how a person returning from a hiatus to Gaia can feel poor or out of place. They churn out so many items each month that it's easy to forget about them, especially since the introduction of RIGs...

I never went out of the Gaia Community Discussion forum or Site feedback on that site so I'm not really sure what the community's like ^^;.

Arikana 03-01-2013 02:40 PM

Oh, man. I have not touched Gaia since '06. I don't even remember what I have anymore. o3o What have I missed on there since then? :o

You've missed:

1.) The introduction of the cash shop;
2.) The introduction of Evolving Items (items which take several months to reach all their poses and with each evolution the poses from the previous ones become unavailable until the item has finished evolving);
3.) The introduction of item bundles (they contain, on average 4 items);
4.) The introduction of RIGs/CIs (Random Items Generators/Chance Items) which assure that every month there will be 50+ new cash items on Gaia, some of which being so rare they'll cost 1mil+;
5.) The introduction of Gaia's MMO, zOMG, which is extremely neglected and has 0 devs at this moment and has had 0 devs for the past few months;
6.)New plot development (believe it or not Gaia's actually managing to keep a steady plot right now, at least for the moment);
7.) A lot of events;
8.) They made a shop for user designed items only;
9.) (I forgot to mention this before) The introduction of REIs (Rapid evolving items which are just like regular evolving items only with less poses but which do not lose their poses after each evolution and who only take 1 month to finish, personally I prefer them).

I think that would be just about it... nvm...

10.) The introduction of at least 4 new species (orcs, dark elfs, angel and demon/devil imps, and centaurus).

I think that's all >.>...

EDIT!

11.) The introduction of alchemy, which sounded very good at first but which was executed so badly it's nothing short of ridiculous... (they could have at least placed all the recipes and alchemy only ingredients in the alchemy shop D:<)

Arikana 03-01-2013 03:55 PM

Hot damn. That's a lot of stuff. o3o

I think I stick of my continual shying away from Gaia. XP

xD. Do as you wish :3. Personally I think Gaia has changed so much since 2007 that if I had taken a hiatus back then I'd be wondering if I hadn't typed in the address for the wrong site XD. Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, more or less.

Arikana 03-01-2013 04:42 PM

It's been seven years since I've been on. So I probably won't be on Gaia again. XD Too long ago, plus I've moved on myself. ;)

Panda 03-01-2013 04:51 PM

It was ok at first back in 2007 or 2008 when they first introduced the cash shop stuff and then they got out of hand and they start releasing like so much cash shop items and all those other crazy stuff. People with real life money can get rich fast from cash shop items there.

When I left I was at the Evolving items stage when it was really new and popular and everyone want to buy them and stuff. Now that I gone back to check stuff they have all these RIG items, Chance items, Alchemy, and a bunch load of hungry money items. It is ridiculous!

Ah... Nex, 3-4M gold is poor on Gaia. It's enough to interact with the NPC shops, but it's not enough to buy anything of actual value on the Marketplace. My wife was sitting on like 300M when she was still playing.

Areishia 03-04-2013 08:11 AM

@Coda: 3-4M gold is still a very good amount of gold on Gaia, most items are normally within the 50k-900k range but there are also quite a few that are within the 1mil-9mil (or more) range, but these are in much smaller numbers and normally just the RIG rares/rig pets that most people can do without.

Still, 100k on there is just about nothing right now.

Coda 03-04-2013 11:29 AM

If it takes a substantial portion of your wealth to buy the average "interesting" item, you're not rich.

Panda 03-04-2013 03:10 PM

I agree with Coda. 3-4 million golds is nothing and it is consider poor on Gaia. You can easily get 3-4 millions. I consider myself super poor even having 10 million golds on me. I have a friend who own 3 angel halos and like 2 billion in golds.

Umaeril 03-06-2013 09:50 AM

Gotta wonder where 3 halo's came from, if they were the real deal. Billions? I suppose there are billionaires on Gaia. I have a lot of stuff there but I got my 2003 items only because I joined in early 2004 and just essentially bought them quickly by selling their monthly letters. It amazes me that having 3-4 million in gold is not considered rich any more. I think that is a lot of gold actually. One could get some nice things with that. I would not consider that to be poor on Gaia, on the contrary, that is a lot.

I used to be a mod there for 6 years, from 2005 to 2011 but now I have stepped down to forum assistant, being a mod there was taking too much of my time. I understand about Gaia though, it seems such a strange place to me now, after having been there so long. It is so different from when I joined. *sigh*

There is a culture of acquisition on all avatar sites that is pervasive pretty much. I mean the whole point is to put items on one's avatar. We are lucky though that sites like Trisphee and Zan exist with a smaller user base that makes it a more friendly environment so even if one has little one can make up for that by the personal interactions. All that being said, I commend Tris for giving out aurum and achievements, that is really great and helpful. And the events help too.

Farore 03-06-2013 03:54 PM

I wouldn't say 3-4mil is rich by any means, but it's far above average. Or I dunno, maybe it depends on what ballpark you're batting in. If you like buying rig pets it's pocket change, if you like buying up cheap colorful items you're pretty well off. I'm in the latter catagory, so my +10mil has me buying all the things.

I wonder if this person with three halos is the same one I've heard of in vending guilds..... I forgot their username though.

Mirra 03-06-2013 04:06 PM

I'm so glad that I forgot my password and the email I used to set it up about... 8 years ago. There are so many users if you want to chat in a forum if you wait even 5 minutes, it's hard to find the page cuz people are creating tons of new threads. And with the whole being poor thing, I'm one of those who don't like to play online games a whole lot... Let me rephrase that... The ONLY time I played online games was when I couldn't make jack on Gaia so I'd play the booty game, other than that the only computer games I've played is the Sims games. Even with playing the booty game, I'm still only sitting on I think 30k. And that's a very strong MAYBE. I don't think I've ever had more than 200k and I felt rich as a mo fo. Lmao! I never really sweated too much over it since I loved my avi which I like to keep my Avis simple... As you can tell by my current one. (Though she's also an OC of mine which she prefers wearing as little as possible.)

I love how much smaller tris is, I can actually talk and make friends here where as on Gaia the only friend I talked to on a regular basis was my best friend IRL, occasionally some of the regulars in the art forum.

Panda 03-07-2013 01:22 PM

Well he was an old user and he used to donate to Gaia and that's how he got his halos. I really have no idea how it work back then but he had that many. He joined like at the very beginning.

toxxic 03-08-2013 06:46 AM

I just want to say that Gaia scares me. I mean when I think of Gaia I think of trolls and hackers. I was never in the forums, just in my quest or art or avi contest threads. I'm not sure how I got a lot of gold but I used to be worth 3million on there. But now it's so much more inflated. It's ridiculous. I never really felt rich on there. I value my aurum on here because it's so easy to spend and then if you don't post a lot it can be harder to get it back. Things don't appear to be really inflated here which is nice, considering this site is a few years old and the other one I'm on is already inflated and only a few months old.

:s-awesome:

or 70 prayer vessels @_@

xD

Coda 03-08-2013 11:36 AM

I should put a 1Au sellback price on those or something to give people a way to dispose of them. >.>;

Arikana 03-08-2013 12:40 PM

Wasn't there a 250 au sellback on them? :o
Or was that only for a short time after the event?

*has never really thought about selling back the prayer vessels* XP

Coda 03-08-2013 02:41 PM

Oh, I DID put one on already? Okay then.

Arikana 03-08-2013 03:49 PM

Yeah, it wast at 250 aurum right after the event. Now it's at 50 aurum. Not sure why the sellback price got lowered, but meh. At least there is one? :o

Jurinjo 03-08-2013 03:59 PM

"Achievement Complete: Slanderer 60"
Wow so slander is good?

Anyways I remember the days when MIs were the thing and it cost like 15k. I'd play games constantly for 2 weeks before I could afford just ONE monthly. I lost all hope when the cash shop came out. Someone a year ago gave me a couple items I really wanted plus like 3 mil. I felt SO freaking rich cause I've never been more than 50k. My avatar right now is a gimp I think? Sexy avatar haha

I'm done with Gaia though. Even the MMO couldn't keep me there.

SinX_franz 03-08-2013 06:23 PM

I'm still using gaia until now though i don't really participate in the forums. It's really messy in the forums. Indeed earning money was quite a hassle. But as soon as they introduced booty grab, my life became quite easier and i earn money fast in a short period of time. ah those were the days, i was really active back then. although too bad, they've nerfed it a lot after a year or two beacause they believed that it caused an imbalance in their economy.

I don't know if I should be sad or amused. What site with a forum doesn't have trolls and hackers? Honestly Gaia really isn't that bad and the gigantic forums are a blast, there's always tons of fun people to chat with! Being on Gaia just for the items is doin' it super wrong because the site is kinda what you make it. Although if you are really big about the items too there's a lot of ways to get what you want fairly fast. You can make loads of gold playing the newer games, doing Gaia-Cash offers, and playing the marketplace right, or you can outright pay for what you want and also enjoy no ads for a couple months.

*crickets*

Oh wait this is a complaint thread. I'll show myself out. :c

Panda 03-09-2013 03:34 AM

You can also block ads from your browser. :) A good way to make money on there is the Marketplace. One of my very old friend was doing it and then he got good at it and start making millions in just a couple of days. He always go to the bidding section and wait for people who misprice their items. That was before they start putting the" , " in the numbers.

Talking about marketplace, I think it would be nice to have one here. The marketplace forum is pretty slow on here.

Rem 03-09-2013 10:10 AM

I'll just say it does depend on where you go/what you do on Gaia as to whether you have mostly bad experiences, or mostly good experiences. Some places (CB, GD) are more inclined towards bad experiences, lol, but I had a 10k page thread in the AF (art freebies) forum for 2-3 years, and I met some of my very best friends on that site, I had a blast...

I will agree though the vibe is really different now from when I was a regular (2006-2008) it doesn't seem that as many people are willing to stick around in threads and make connections, make conversation and friendships -- my shops, auctions, threads tend to have a lot of lonely bumping from me these days lol. And yea inflation has made everything more expensive, 5mil used to be an auction AB because it was just so jaw-droppingly large, now if you don't end up with 5mil at the end it's almost a waste of time -- the blame for that can be landed squarely the fact they started over-saturating the site with items.

Used to be you'd just have the monthlies, and then a shop update once in awhile, and a few rare special items in random boxes. (Which are p much worthless now lmao, poor Angelic headband) Now there's something new almost every single week.

...ok I have way to much opinion on this lol shutting up

Crass 03-10-2013 11:08 PM

I'm always poor on avatar websites. I join, I get bored, and I leave.

Starzel 03-13-2013 11:57 PM

I feel richer on gaia than on here, probably because I have waaaay more time invested there. I always feel poor here in comparison, but that's justified. tHough I think I'm poor on both sites in comparison to everybody else.
I like how the 'economy' here is mainly based on items with fixed prices. It means I can look pretty without paying millions. Better than the huge amount of items that are constantly pumped in to gaia (though some are very pretty).

Panda 03-14-2013 12:01 AM

Starzel, I will help you with some stuff to get you start on this site. ^^
I really love it here on Trisphee! :) My main site since the day it was open.

Starzel 03-14-2013 12:03 AM

Don't be too generous, I already got a welcome wagon several months ago when I joined. I just sort of forgot about this account for a bit.. ehehe

Panda 03-14-2013 12:04 AM

Don't worry about it. It's just a little something for you.

Starzel 03-14-2013 12:15 AM

Well, thank you for the giftrape (is that term acceptable here?)

Panda 03-14-2013 12:19 AM

Of course not. jk :D
Have fun and hopefully you will fall in love with Trisphee one day. haha

woopdidoodoo 03-18-2013 06:21 AM

I agree with the concept of helping others but I gotta say as a "newbie" meaning I'm not that established with being known here or in threads or whatever you can earn aurum really easily and not feel all that poor. I play the game every day, and check it every hour until my tokens are gone rofl and I get a fair amount of Aurum that way, I've only just gotten into posting again now and whilst that helps I find playing the game a lot easier to make aurum. I also donate when I can and sell extras when I can afford to and that helps as well but the fastest way for me is the game for sure.
