crafts and making things
so anyone into crafts? I needle felt this is my blog if you are interested in seeing what I make, I sculpt with wool basically http://indigoinkcreations.blogspot.com.au/ been doing it for a few years now and am addicted to wool roving, just bought some more lol my other half is going to kill me when he finds out, I also sometimes crochet, I do have a sewing machine but I don't use it, it hates me lol.
so discuss crafts and what you make!! |
I've built my last couple of computers, does that count? As close as I get artistically :-( when I'm not in my phone I'll check out your page :-D
I dabble in crochet, and drawing. I've been crocheting since I was like 8 years old (I started off with chain bookmarks), but I've never really finished a big project. I've started I don't know how many blankets over the years... >_< The most recent project I started was a pair of house room shoes for my husband, and I got the first one done (it turned out awesome!) but when I started to sew up the second one, I didn't have it turned right, and I didn't realize it until I had knotted off the end, so I've put those down for now. >.> Which prolly means I won't be very likely to finish them... <.<
I never heard of sculpting with wool before. Woop, your little creatures are so cute, omg. That must take a lot of patience to do that.
I don't do much in the way of crafts. I crosstitch some, I have done one small piece which I framed and gave to my mom and I am working on a large American Sampler which is taking me like 2 years and I am only 1/4th of the way done. I just learned how to sew on a machine because I was thinking about making doll clothes. I took some private lessons and now no longer fear the sewing machine! I did sew up a very nice little dress for one of my dolls and I could do some more if I got bored and took out the machine again. Sometimes I burn hot for projects and then I leave off them after a while though. |
Ha! I never thought of computers as crafts, but you do craft them. <3
I do handmade gifts for people that are getting married, and babies sometimes. I also paint and stuff. I love crafting. I do stuff for trading on reddit. It's fun! |
I love making things! I mainly draw or sew though. I made a load of little hairbows not so long ago. They're not the best since they're my first attempt but I'm still pretty pleased. I want to move onto jewellery making and then eventually open my own little Etsy shop :')

Those are cute bows. :)
they are cute bows! I hate sewing lol my sewing machine just deoesn't like me
Thanks :')
Aw I wish I had a sewing machine! D; I have to do all mine by hand. I'm working on a toy monkey at the moment though. He's all knitted, he just needs his limbs sewn on ha. |
Anat aww I wish I could knit I've tried learning my other halfs mums tried teaching but I failed lol
My mum taught me how to knit C: I wanted a "hands-on" hobby when I was trying to cut down on snacking (you can't eat if your hands are busy) so I picked knitting/sewing C: I tried crochet too but I suck at that ha
I can't knit or crochet Anatidae, and you do good work by hand. I finally broke down and bought a sewing machine and then I got someone to teach me how to use it. Useful machine I will say that.
Thanks! :') Are sewing machines easy to get the hang of using? I also really like your avatar by the way
I have a brother sewing machine and it is pretty easy to use.
Every sewing machine has a mind of it's own. At least mine do.
I've never used one before. I'm really clumsy so I'm always worried I'll end up sewing my fingers to the fabric D;
Well, machines now are really good about foot pressure. You use a foot peddle to make the needle go. Do you drive? Even if you don't, if you just use little pressure the needle won't move that fast. :)
No, I tried driving once but totally clipped the kerb at about 40 and couldn't get the wheel to turn or brake. It's not my forte haha. The pressure via foot pedal sounds pretty nifty though
It's stress relieving. At least to me.
I find sewing very therapeutic so I can understand :)
Oh! I'm glad I'm not the only one. And today! I get to go to JoAnn Fabrics.
I find needlefelting to be like therapy for me lol
I can crochet but I can't knit lol. I believe the sewing machine gets easier when you use it more, if you get one anat try and get lessons, cause I struggled everytime I got stuck and didn't know how to fix something and thats why I don't use it very much now lol feels like too much effort. |
I still have never tried needle felting.
I've not tried needle felting either. Sounds fun though C:
@Woop: I didn't even know you could get lessons in sewing machines. I'm sure youtube would have tutorials if I do. C: @Faux: Oh have fun! I love fabric shopping! Before my old employer cancelled my contract I worked in the fabric department in a home store :) |
I used to work at a JoAnn Fabrics.
Fauxy should try needlefelting *nods* you get to stab wool and make cute stuff lol
I'm making a rabbit at the moment. |
I got private lessons from a guy who works at Joanne's. He taught me all about my sewing machine and then we made a doll's dress first since I wanted to and then we did a pattern tunic top for me. My sewing is not great but from those lessons I am no longer afraid of the sewing machine and I think I could do something on my own...maybe. I could certainly sew another doll's dress, lol.
Uma I need the inspiration to use my machine hahaha
I can use it, had a few lessons ages ago, just don't want to use it lol its a shame its a good machine. |
You can send it to me Woop. lolz! If you want inspiration, go looks through the Vogue catalog. <3
I really should make something for myself. I have some nice fabric in a casual black linen. Vogue huh? I never thought of them, I just looked at Simplicity and ....cant think of the name. Burdastyle I think. And some other place.
Vogue has the inspirational stuff. <3
I have a craft list longer than i am tall, most of it is wedding crafts.... I have found a paper flower tutorial that I love and am using it for my bridesmaid bouquet and other filler flowers, i am making like 50 flowers at least.
Tiva ~ If I were there I could help you!
it isn't hard just time consuming, cutting out the petals for the roses is the hardest part. Once they are all cut out I can bang them out in a few hours.
I've helped several friends put all sorts of wedding stuff together. I think I missed my calling. ha!
Yeah sounds like it Faux! *hands all of the wedding stuff* Be my planner?
I wish. My crazy ex-sister-in-law went to school for event planning. I didn't even know that was a THING!?!
*naps on Faux* Too much crafting...
I need some good crafting inspiration. I feel so lazy.
Oh! I do crafty things sometimes.
Mostly it's cosplay related (discounting drawing), but I'm super-lazy and unmotivated, so I've done very little. XD But still. It involves all kinds of stuff. Painting, foam-crafting, sewing, a bit of fiberglass, staring at crap at JoAnn's or Michael's going, "eh?" ...Fun times. Inspiration and motivation are sneaky, though. They hide so often. |
