Aurum reduction

I just noticed that from the games section in the central square i'm getting around 4.xx aurum per post.. but in any other thread even typing one word im at least getting like 20 aurum is this a glitch or are they reducing the amount rewarded for posting in the games :(

Hopefully this'll get answered soon... same problem here :(

The game forums have pretty much taken over Trisphee and the Admins and mods decided to lower the aurum gain for that area. ever since it opened a lot of other places have suffered and friends have disappeared. and a lot of the new people have only been in there and no where else.

Sei 10-09-2010 09:40 PM

Seeing as this was being discussed earlier, I'm betting that the Aurum gain rate was lowered in the games subforums. *nods*

We'll have to wait for staff confirmation, though.

Alexander Linden 10-09-2010 09:40 PM

The amount you earn in the game section has been reduced.

Coda 10-09-2010 09:41 PM

It's not a problem; this was intentional. The Forum Games section has had its aurum rewards significantly cut. The rest of Trisphee will be handing out normal amounts. It's a little bit experimental, may or may not stay, it's just step one of us trying to decide how to handle that section.

Short version: We can't stop you from playing games, but we really would rather you participate in productive conversations, so we're gonna reward you more for that.

I agree to the aurem reward reduction, but perhaps not as significant as this. maybe 10 for 1 word and up to 25 for a long post.. just a thought :)

well i figured that was the reason behind it.. though they didn't post a announcement or nothing about the change =/ i get why it happened i've seen where other sites remove currency gain completely from the game forums like that.

Though my personal thought to test things is do the same to the market place seeing as a lot of the threads over there are being used as chat threads an not for the proper use of trading/selling/buying.. i get people posting enough to chat for a moment or to bump a thread but this place has section for flat out long term chats.

I'm going to have to agree with Rose on the Merchant thread. Way too much conversating going on in it

I don't enjoy the post your aurem games and other number games... but the word games are fun and intuitive... enjoyed them bunches :D
.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦. ·Âº○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦ .· º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.

La Diablesse 10-09-2010 09:48 PM

I agree with this as well. Games are fun and all, and I have been posting there off and on. But when I post in there... I try to make my posts very conversational...and relating to what others have posted XDD

I've seen similar things done on other websites that are more post count based. Posting in the Games forum does not add to your post count on that site and I agree fully.

It's not a real meaningful post and while it fosters a friendly gaming environment... it does not encourage conversation

Coda 10-09-2010 09:48 PM

I said it's experimental, so the amount of reduction is going to be played with. And in fact, the reason we didn't make an announcement was so we could see what kinds of reactions we got from people who were actually affected instead of soliciting feedback from people who might not even play forum games. It's really been pretty informative so far.

And we chose Forum Games specifically because we're addressing a problem with that section, not trying to rebalance the Trisphee economy.

Lucid: 10-09-2010 09:49 PM

At least the market threads are being chatted in like a hangout, instead of posting bumps or numbers with no productive purpose. I agree with this change.

Kanobei 10-09-2010 09:51 PM

I agree with the change, just not the severity.. and i was just offering my 2 cents... thanks for the information though coda ^_^

besides... not to be mean, but on an avatar site... what part is productive?
.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦. ·Âº○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦ .· º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.

well i do see why the games were bumped down, im just saying i think chatting does get a bit out of hand in the market threads, like the more recent example there was a user selling runes almost two days ago now.. the thread is still being bumped to the top even though the user/maker of the thread said they were done selling runes .. though with the chatting that thread is being bumped up constantly .. thus people are thinking there are still runes in that shop when the shop owner left the thread a while ago.

like i said i dont mind a small bit of chatting.. an your not allowed to post bump anyway so it shouldn't matter.. but theres a place for hangout threads an i dont see how it's a good thing that the market place is filling that gap instead of the correct forums =/

.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦. ·Âº○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.· º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.

Coda 10-09-2010 09:54 PM

I think the other users here have described it pretty well -- posts that add up to a conversation (even if it's silly) are better than games that don't mean anything.

And certainly we'll respond to reports of specific threads that might be causing trouble, but we haven't seen significant problems in the market so far.

Kanobei 10-09-2010 09:56 PM

So wait... word games that actually invoke intellectual thought processes and help stimulate brain activity is seen as less valuable than a chat thread that is blowing bubbles?

Just saying... >.>;
.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦. ·Âº○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦ .· º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.

Coda 10-09-2010 09:57 PM

Actually, no, the word games like that we actually LIKE, but they're something of a rarity. As I said, this is an experiment; it's not necessarily permanent.

Alexander Linden 10-09-2010 09:58 PM

There haven't been any intellectual games posted up that 'stimulate brain activity' as you say. Anyone can count, and anyone can come up with words that start with specific letters. There's no thought involved.

Kanobei 10-09-2010 09:59 PM

Just wanted to clarify <3 Experiment away. Btw... Coda... been meaning to tell ya... great job on all the coding you've been doing :D

it does take thought process to come up with those words... not the numbers, i agree with you there... but the words, yea, it's almost like doing crossword puzzles. :) which i love... x.x
.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦. ·Âº○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦ .· º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.

Well why have a games thread at all? it's like this other site i was on that took away all benefits of currency of the games thread. Plus I have gotten into good conversations in the games thread, plus a few of them will make you think if your not doing the mindless number games. Personally I'd love to go an do my page long rp posts but at the cap at 50 aurum a post.. I know for the half a hour it takes me to post my wall of text im wasting a ton of my time =/

im not really complaining here just giving my feedback on the change.. it's not my choice anyway i get this is a forum site theres conversations but to go an say the word games don;t mean anything is a bit harsh.

.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦. ·Âº○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.· º○º·.♦.·º○º·.♦.·º○º·.

Alexander Linden 10-09-2010 10:01 PM

None of the games in there are half as thought provoking as a crossword puzzle, at least not a normal one.

Honestly? We don't really WANT one, but we know that people want to play them, and we don't want to just lock them all when they show up, so by giving them a place to exist it keeps it from taking over the rest of the board.

La Diablesse 10-09-2010 10:03 PM

That why is see the need to TAKE it away.

i HATE people who just use the Games forum as a way to quick cash. UGHHHHHH!!!

To me.. games are supposed to be a break from the conversation. Like picking up a book and instead of reading...doing a Sudoku puzzle. Something that's fun and relaxing to break the stress. Because sometimes...you just dont want conversation, you want relaxation and fun!!!

Doing it for "quick aurum"...pisses me off... UGHHHHHHHHHH!!!

Alexander Linden 10-09-2010 10:04 PM

I certainly didn't want the game forum either. xD

Kanobei - I think it's too early for stuff like that, but it would be nice to see real site games eventually.

Ooo I have an idea...

Why not have a limited number of games threads and lock the forum for thread creation but not posting... if that's possible.

Lt the staff decide which threads are appropriate. IMO, threads like "Ask a question and get an answer" and "corrupt a wish". Are interesting because you can have convos and interesting stories stemming from them.

The counting threads and the A-Z threads are getting annoying and really we dont need MULTIPLES of those kinds of threads. Maybe just one of each to appease the masses.

Demonskid 10-09-2010 10:07 PM

I suck at crosswords but it sounds fun coda =D maybe.. add some sudoku? ^^,

Coda 10-09-2010 10:08 PM

That kind of thing is already under discussion; this was just step one. We haven't decided how we want to deal with the rest.

Edit: Sudoku I've already done once. *rummage* Let me find the link.

Well so far Coda, I've been rather impressed with the site as a whole. I was wondering though if we were going to be able to choose the color scheme for ourselves for the forum... i just don't like the sea green look @_@

We actually do have crosswords and Sudoku in the 10,000 Cat Paws Charity. usually. We've been taking a break from that to do our banner contest, but we can start putting them up again. that way everyone can come to our charity thread to stimulate their brain activity, and the games thread will no longer be needed, right? ;D
